“Give me the baby, not the pain.”

Doug Englen is a nationally recognized leader in defense, aviation, and national security, widely known as the most decorated aviator in U.S. Army history. With 39 years of professional experience, including 33 years of active duty service, Englen has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in high-stakes military operations, strategic planning, and organizational transformation. His career spans over 7,000 flight hours, 2,500 combat missions, and 34 deployments, including his pivotal role as the lead aviator on the historic mission to eliminate Osama bin Laden. Englen’s impact on U.S. defense capabilities and Army aviation remains unmatched, and he continues to serve the country in a civilian capacity through aerospace innovation, policy advising, and public service.

Currently serving as the Fort Campbell representative for Bell Textron, Doug leads strategic pursuits and international government affairs for the company’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) programs. He is responsible for the integration and execution of the U.S. Army’s Future Long Range Assault Aircraft initiative, guiding the V-280 Valor’s development. His role bridges advanced vertical lift systems, military technology strategy, and legislative engagement across Kentucky and Tennessee, offering Bell a unique competitive edge grounded in tactical relevance and national security insight.

Prior to joining Bell, Englen served as the Senior Warrant Officer Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army and the Secretary of the Army at the Pentagon. In this role, he led transformative talent management strategies for over 28,000 warrant officers across the active, reserve, and National Guard components. His leadership helped modernize congressional initiatives regarding readiness and lethality for U.S. forces, establishing a blueprint for future force development and personnel resilience.

Over his military career, Doug held multiple senior leadership positions within the elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), also known as the “Night Stalkers.” His positions included Command Chief Warrant Officer for the U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command, Director of Special Operations Aviation Technology and Development, and Chief Pilot/Standardization Officer. He was responsible for developing new aviation technologies, operational tactics, and joint-force interoperability across multiple theaters and international partnerships.

Doug’s accolades include the Distinguished Service Medal, two Silver Star Medals, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Bronze Stars, and eight Air Medals, including one for valor. These awards reflect not only heroic action in the line of fire but also sustained excellence in mission execution, aviation safety, and battlefield innovation. His operational leadership directly influenced major national security outcomes, including classified missions across Iraq, Afghanistan, the Balkans, and various undisclosed global locations.

An accomplished pilot and instructor, Doug holds FAA certifications in commercial multi-engine and rotary wing aircraft, with ratings in instrument instruction and airframe & powerplant maintenance. He is also a graduate of elite military schools, including the Air Force Weapons School, Marine Corps Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, and the Army War College Senior Leader Course. He brings a systems-level understanding of aviation doctrine, air-ground integration, and foreign military sales, making him an asset in both defense industry and policy circles.

Beyond his professional achievements, Doug is a family man, married to his wife Tina for over 30 years, with whom he has four children and several grandchildren. His son currently serves as an Army aviator, extending the Englen legacy of service. Doug’s personal values—resilience, loyalty, and humility—are deeply rooted in his small-town upbringing and lifelong commitment to protecting others.

Doug has served on multiple nonprofit boards and regularly speaks on defense strategy, aviation innovation, and leadership under pressure. He is fluent in German and has worked closely with allied nations including the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia, offering him unique insights into cross-cultural military collaboration and foreign defense relations.

In 2020, Englen transitioned to civilian life but not to retirement. With encouragement from leaders like Leon Panetta and Adm. William McRaven, he pursued public service through elected office. He ran for Tennessee State Senate, District 22, to bring his mission-first mindset and operational leadership to the legislative front lines. Today, Englen holds multiple positions at the Tennessee State level to help advise and influence current and future political officials at both the state and national level.
