Amelia Presley: Turning Scientific Innovation Into Commercial Growth and Lasting Market Impact

Published on:

Amelia Presley is a seasoned commercial executive with more than two decades of experience leading commercialization, portfolio growth, product launches, and market expansion across clinical diagnostics, in vitro diagnostics, medical devices, healthcare technology, and pharmaceutical environments. Her career has been defined by the ability to translate complex scientific and technical innovation into practical commercial strategies that accelerate adoption, strengthen customer value, and create sustainable revenue growth. Known as a highly collaborative and people-centered leader, Amelia brings together strategic planning, commercial operations, marketing, sales, product management, and cross-functional execution to move organizations from opportunity to measurable results.

Amelia’s professional foundation combines deep technical understanding with sophisticated commercial leadership. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign before completing an MBA focused on marketing, healthcare enterprise, international business, and strategy at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She later continued her executive development through Kellogg’s Strategic Communication for Leaders certification. This blend of engineering discipline, business strategy, and executive communication has enabled Amelia to operate effectively at the intersection of science, technology, customer needs, and enterprise growth.

Much of Amelia’s career was developed during nearly two decades with Abbott Diagnostics, where she advanced through an unusually broad range of roles spanning engineering, sales, consulting, global marketing, portfolio management, commercial excellence, and regional sales leadership. Her early experience in engineering and process-focused positions gave her firsthand insight into how products are developed, manufactured, and brought to market. She subsequently moved closer to customers through sales and laboratory workflow consulting, developing an understanding of health systems, laboratories, capital equipment, automation, informatics, and the operational realities that influence purchasing and adoption decisions.

As Amelia progressed into global and U.S. marketing and product leadership, she became increasingly responsible for shaping portfolio strategy and coordinating execution across functions and geographies. At Abbott, she led commercial planning for systems, automation, information technology, immunochemistry, hematology, and related diagnostic solutions. She also managed integrated business planning across a significant R&D portfolio, bringing together research and development, supply chain, marketing, quality, operations, and commercial leaders. Her ability to align diverse stakeholders around common business objectives became a hallmark of her leadership style and positioned her for increasingly complex enterprise responsibilities.

Amelia later assumed senior commercial excellence and sales leadership roles at Abbott, where she demonstrated her ability to connect strategic planning with disciplined execution. She helped drive large-scale commercial initiatives, including an immunoassay expansion program representing significant annual sales opportunity, while working directly with senior leaders across commercial, marketing, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and R&D. As a regional sales leader, she directed a $50 million-plus base of business, developed high-performing sales teams, and helped elevate her district to the top of national rankings. Her performance earned recognition through President’s Club honors and reflected a consistent focus on coaching, accountability, customer relationships, and growth.

Amelia broadened her healthcare commercialization expertise through a role with Astellas Pharma, where she supported launch excellence and commercial readiness in oncology. Her work included lifecycle and launch planning for XTANDI as well as development of a launch planning framework for VYLOY. She also advised on companion diagnostic strategy and the broader diagnostic ecosystem required to support successful therapeutic commercialization. This experience expanded Amelia’s perspective across the intersection of pharmaceuticals, precision medicine, diagnostics, and patient care, further strengthening her ability to assess commercialization opportunities in complex regulated markets.

At Sysmex America, Amelia moved into enterprise marketing leadership across the United States, Latin America, and Canada. As Senior Director of Product Marketing and later Vice President of Marketing for the Americas, she led portfolio strategy, product launches, digital marketing, commercial enablement, downstream sales support, and alignment with sales leadership across multiple diagnostic categories, including hematology, urinalysis, flow cytometry, hemostasis, informatics, immunoassay, and emerging technologies. She oversaw seven teams and helped position the organization for ambitious long-term growth while strengthening coordination between Sysmex Japan, regional affiliates, and commercial teams throughout the Americas.

Her impact at Sysmex included helping deliver the highest annual sales target in the company’s U.S. history, advancing market preparation for next-generation technologies, and serving as executive sponsor for expansion into AI, immunoassay, point-of-care, and specialty testing opportunities. Amelia also oversaw the U.S. launch of the Pro Act GI colorectal cancer risk AI algorithm, including a major West Coast pilot, and contributed to initiatives involving specialty diagnostics and emerging neurology testing opportunities. Her selection for Sysmex’s global Kizuna leadership program further recognized her potential for C-suite leadership and her ability to lead through increasingly complex global business challenges.

Throughout her career, Amelia has built extensive international exposure, particularly across Latin America, Canada, Japan, and global product organizations. She is comfortable working across cultures, organizational structures, and market environments and is open to travel in support of board, advisory, and strategic initiatives. Her international experience complements a strong network across health systems, academic medical centers, reference laboratories, key opinion leaders, and commercial organizations, giving her a broad perspective on how innovation gains acceptance across different healthcare markets.

Amelia is particularly well suited to board and advisory opportunities involving clinical diagnostics, IVD, medical devices, healthcare technology, specialty testing, precision medicine, and adjacent regulated or technology-enabled industries. She is especially interested in small to mid-sized organizations where experienced commercial leadership can have a visible and measurable impact. Her background allows her to contribute meaningfully to discussions surrounding go-to-market strategy, commercialization, portfolio optimization, revenue acceleration, market expansion, customer experience, organizational design, commercial operations, and growth planning.

Beyond her technical and commercial credentials, Amelia is distinguished by her leadership approach. She describes herself as a people person, and her career demonstrates a consistent commitment to developing teams, building alignment, and creating clarity in complex environments. She combines executive-level strategic thinking with a willingness to engage deeply in execution, helping organizations connect long-range vision with the practical decisions required to achieve it. Her ability to influence without relying solely on authority has been especially valuable in highly matrixed organizations where success depends on collaboration across functions and geographies.

As Amelia enters the next chapter of her professional career, board and advisory service represents a natural extension of the perspective she has developed across more than 20 years of commercialization leadership and approximately 25 years in corporate environments. She brings the maturity of a seasoned enterprise executive along with an entrepreneurial interest in helping smaller and growth-stage organizations scale effectively. Whether advising on a new product launch, evaluating a portfolio, shaping commercial strategy, strengthening leadership alignment, or preparing an organization for its next stage of growth, Amelia offers a combination of technical fluency, business judgment, commercial discipline, and human-centered leadership.

Amelia also values giving back to the broader community. She has supported charities and fundraising initiatives, including contributions to Open Heart Magic, an organization serving children in Chicago-area hospitals. Her involvement reflects a broader belief that leadership extends beyond business performance and includes meaningful participation in the communities organizations and individuals serve. That sense of responsibility, combined with her professional experience, positions Amelia as an executive capable of contributing both strategic value and thoughtful stewardship in the boardroom.
