“Preparedness Creates Confidence. Leadership Turns It Into Progress.”
Nicholas Dumas is an accomplished aviation executive with more than two decades of experience spanning airport management, air traffic control, airline operations, flight service, emergency preparedness, public administration, and aviation safety. His career has been defined by steady progression through increasingly complex operational and leadership roles, giving him a rare, end-to-end understanding of how airports and aviation systems function. From frontline aviation environments to executive-level airport leadership, Nicholas has consistently demonstrated a commitment to safety, accountability, operational excellence, and long-term organizational resilience.
Nicholas currently serves as Airport Director for the City of Venice, Florida, where he leads the strategic, operational, financial, and regulatory management of Venice Municipal Airport. As the airport’s chief executive, he oversees operations, maintenance, administration, planning, development, capital programs, leases, contracts, grants, and stakeholder relationships. His role requires balancing public-sector accountability with the commercial and operational realities of a busy general aviation airport, while ensuring alignment with FAA, Florida Department of Transportation, and municipal requirements.
Prior to becoming Airport Director, Nicholas served as Airport Deputy Director for the City of Venice. In that role, he supported the administration of the airport while managing state and federal grant activities, negotiating aeronautical and non-aeronautical leases, preparing budgets and proposals, and engaging with local, state, and federal officials. He also worked closely with tenants, community members, emergency response organizations, and aviation stakeholders, strengthening his ability to align diverse interests around safety, operational performance, and long-term airport development.
A significant chapter of Nicholas’s career was spent with the City of Philadelphia’s Division of Aviation at Philadelphia International Airport. Over more than a decade, he advanced through progressively responsible positions including Airport Operations Officer, Operations Tower Coordinator, and Airport Operations Duty Supervisor. These roles placed him at the center of one of the nation’s major commercial aviation environments, where he was responsible for navigating complex operational issues, regulatory expectations, airfield activity, emergency situations, and cross-functional coordination.
Nicholas also brings valuable experience from his time with the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Control Specialist. He worked at both Miami International Airport and Harrisburg International Airport, gaining firsthand experience in the communication discipline, situational awareness, and precision required within the National Airspace System. His background in air traffic control adds an important dimension to his airport leadership, allowing him to understand aviation operations not only from the perspective of airport management but also from the perspective of pilots, controllers, and airspace users.
Earlier in his career, Nicholas built a broad aviation foundation through roles in airport safety and operations, flight service operations procedures, airline customer service, and airport administration. He served as a Flight Service Operations Procedures Specialist with The Washington Consulting Group, an Airport Safety and Operations Specialist with Delaware River & Bay Authority Airports, an Airport Operations Agent in Philadelphia, and an Assistant to the Airport Director in Beaver County. This varied career path has given him the ability to understand operational challenges from multiple vantage points and to connect frontline realities with executive-level strategy.
Nicholas’s professional credentials further distinguish him as a highly qualified aviation leader. He holds the American Association of Airport Executives’ Accredited Airport Executive designation, along with AAAE’s Certified Member, Airport Certified Employee–Operations, and Airport Snow Expert credentials. He is also a licensed Private Pilot, holds an FAA Control Tower Operator Certificate, possesses an FAA ground security coordinator certificate, and is certified as a Surface Weather Observer. His additional qualifications include FEMA’s Professional Development Series Certification and Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program’s Exercise Evaluator certification.
Emergency management has become another important area of Nicholas’s professional expertise. He earned a Master of Public Administration specializing in Emergency Management from Columbia Southern University, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. This academic preparation, combined with his extensive aviation background, equips him to approach preparedness, continuity of operations, hazard mitigation, response planning, and recovery through both an operational and strategic lens.
Nicholas also holds a bachelor’s degree in Aviation/Airway Management and Operations from Delaware State University, where he graduated summa cum laude with a 3.96 GPA. During his studies, he participated in the university soccer program, served in the campus police cadet program, and was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society. He also earned his Private Pilot License during this period, reinforcing the technical aviation foundation that has supported his leadership career.
Throughout his professional journey, Nicholas has participated in numerous speaking engagements and presentations, communicating aviation, operational, financial, and safety-related matters to a wide range of audiences. His ability to translate technical information into clear, practical, and actionable guidance has been an important leadership strength. Whether engaging government officials, regulators, tenants, employees, community members, or industry partners, Nicholas brings a communication style centered on clarity, professionalism, and collaboration.
Nicholas is particularly interested in board and advisory opportunities connected to airports, aerospace, aviation, and other complex operating environments where safety, regulation, infrastructure, emergency preparedness, and strategic planning are critical. He believes his experience can help organizations identify risks, solve difficult problems, overcome operational obstacles, and make informed decisions that strengthen long-term performance. His interest in board service is rooted in a genuine desire to contribute his knowledge in a way that creates measurable value and positive organizational impact.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Nicholas remains committed to community service and responsible stewardship. He is active with his church finance committee and participates in volunteer activities, reflecting his belief that leadership extends beyond the workplace. Soccer remains a personal interest and reinforces many of the values that have shaped his professional philosophy, including teamwork, preparation, accountability, resilience, and shared responsibility.
As Nicholas continues expanding his executive and board-level contributions, he brings a distinctive combination of operational depth, aviation expertise, emergency management knowledge, financial stewardship, regulatory understanding, and public-sector leadership. His career reflects an ability to remain composed in high-stakes environments, evaluate complex issues thoughtfully, and guide organizations toward practical, sustainable solutions.
