Thomas G. Malone is a seasoned financial executive whose four-decade career has shaped the trajectories of companies across the media, telecommunications, and financial services industries. Known for his strategic clarity, calm leadership, and ability to unlock value in complex environments, he has built a reputation as a trusted advisor to CEOs, CFOs, and organizational leaders navigating critical growth, restructuring, and capital-raising decisions. His professional journey reflects an uncommon blend of technical expertise, international perspective, and an unwavering commitment to helping organizations achieve a more successful future.
Tom began developing his global mindset early in his career, serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya, where he worked on a World Bank and USAID project. His work culminated in the founding of an agricultural cooperative bank—an accomplishment that sparked his lifelong interest in financial empowerment and community development. This international experience, paired with his working knowledge of Swahili and familiarity with African markets, broadened his understanding of emerging economies and strengthened his ability to relate to diverse teams and stakeholders.
Upon returning to the United States, Tom transitioned into the corporate financial sector, beginning with American International Group and quickly establishing himself as a capable and disciplined analyst. This early period sharpened his technical foundation in risk, underwriting, and financial structures, laying the groundwork for the executive responsibilities he would later assume. His analytical approach, combined with a collaborative spirit, set him apart as a financial professional poised for high-impact leadership.
Tom’s tenure at the Royal Bank of Canada marked a significant milestone in his professional ascent. As Group Head of the Media Industries Group, he played a central role in building what became the most profitable lending operation in the U.S. His responsibilities spanned relationship management, credit oversight, and strategic business development, and the group’s success reflected his ability to identify opportunities, cultivate trust with clients, and structure solutions that balanced innovation with financial discipline. This period solidified his expertise in media and telecommunications—a specialty that would define much of the remainder of his career.
From there, Tom spent fourteen highly successful years at Chase Securities, serving in roles that ranged from Managing Director in Media & Telecommunications to Managing Director in the Global Syndicated Finance and Financial Sponsor Coverage divisions. He originated dozens of high-value transactions, led senior loan syndications, executed complex financings, and delivered results under competitive and time-sensitive conditions. Tom developed a reputation for winning mandates others could not, generating more than $100 million in fee income, and strengthening long-term client relationships through thoughtful, proactive engagement.
His next major chapter came with Daniels & Associates—later RBC Daniels—where he served as Managing Director and Group Head of Private Placements. Working across multiple industry verticals, Tom drove capital-raising efforts, executed M&A transactions, and collaborated closely with the firm’s media, cable, telecom, and technology teams. He contributed to more than 40 transactions generating over $35 million in revenue and distinguished himself as both a team leader and a team player. His ability to unify stakeholders, motivate professionals, and move transactions forward with precision became hallmarks of his leadership.
At Waller Capital Partners, Tom continued to advise companies at pivotal moments in their development. He successfully closed multiple broadcast television station sales valued between $50–$60 million and supported restructuring, valuation, and strategic advisory assignments involving complex media assets. His counsel became particularly valuable to organizations facing transitional or uncertain market conditions, where his steady judgment and industry understanding helped guide decision-making with clarity and confidence.
Tom’s work as Senior Managing Director at CEA Capital Advisors further strengthened his position as a trusted advisor within the communications sector. He supported founders, private equity sponsors, and family-owned businesses seeking to navigate sales, acquisitions, or restructuring initiatives. His ability to communicate complex financial considerations in an accessible, solution-oriented manner made him an indispensable partner to leadership teams evaluating transformative opportunities.
In 2017, Tom founded Avondale Communications LLC, a boutique investment bank focused on serving mid market companies in the media and communications sectors. As President, he supports clients with buy side and sell side transactions, capital raising, and strategic advisory work, drawing on his experience to help organizations make informed decisions and plan for long term stability.
Tom’s leadership extends beyond corporate boardrooms. He currently serves on the Investment Advisory Committee of All Souls Church in New York City and has held board roles with the Hunts Point Alliance for Children, the Avondale Homeowners Association, and the Avondale Chapel. His financial expertise, particularly as Treasurer and Finance Committee member, has strengthened the governance structures of these organizations and reinforced his dedication to community service. His love of golf and international travel rounds out a professional life marked by curiosity, exploration, and connection.
