Michael’s career includes a notable tenure at BDO USA, LLP, where he served as a Partner in Business Services & Outsourcing from July 2015 to March 2024. In this role, he oversaw outsourced accounting and CFO-level support for nonprofit organizations with annual budgets ranging from less than $1 million to over $200 million. His leadership in this position exemplified his commitment to enhancing financial management practices and supporting nonprofit success. He served as a Managing Director in the same practice from November 2012 through July 2015.
Before his time at BDO, Michael was a Sr. Manager/Principal at Argy Accounting Solutions from November 2009 to November 2012, providing outsourced accounting and CFO-level services to nonprofits, individuals, and small businesses. His professional journey also includes a significant role as Partner at Walker & Company, LLP, where he managed outsourced accounting support and tax services for nonprofit organizations and small businesses while overseeing the firm’s administrative functions.
In the nonprofit sector, Michael has demonstrated exceptional leadership. As President & CEO of the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute from October 2001 to June 2004, he led a transformative restructuring that eliminated losses, secured accreditation, and strengthened relationships with local funding partners and regulators. He also served as President of Ward Consulting Group from January 1998 to September 2001, offering strategic financial and marketing support to a diverse range of clients. During that time he served as a consulting CFO at Kennedy Institute.
Michael’s board service is extensive and impactful. He has been a Board Member with entities of the HSC Health Care System since January 2004, contributing to social services and healthcare. He served as Chair at several critical points for HSC, including during the integration of HSC with Children’s National Hospital following a 2019 merger. At the National Children’s Center, where he served as a Board Member and at several critical points as Chair starting in January 2006, he played a pivotal role in advancing services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Additionally, as a Board Member of Children’s National Hospital since November 2019, Michael continues to influence healthcare and pediatric services.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Georgetown University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and from 2014-2018 a Board Governance Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD).
