Jamaal “Coach Trell” Cottrell

Jamaal “Coach Trell” Cottrell is an executive coach, Maxwell Leadership Executive Program Leader, and the founder of Limitless Leads Coaching LLC in San Antonio, Texas. He helps leaders close the gap between the standard they set and what actually gets done. His work combines graduate training in industrial-organizational psychology with 20 years of Air Force leadership and more than 28 years of leading people and operations. His philosophy is simple: lead with clarity, measure what matters, and hold the standard.

Through Limitless Leads Coaching, Jamaal works with business owners, executives, HR leaders, and leadership teams on communication, accountability, and culture. Since 2021 he has led more than 80 consultations with individuals, teams, and organizations, coached HR business partners through performance gaps, and facilitated virtual and on-site sessions on management, team cohesion, emotional intelligence, and conflict. He also runs a weekly mastermind and Lunch N Learn series. His approach pairs behavioral assessment with practical execution, built on a hard truth every leadership team eventually faces: culture is what you tolerate.

Jamaal holds a Master of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Capella University, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from American Military University, and two associate degrees from the Community College of the Air Force. He is a Maxwell Leadership Certified DISC Consultant and Benchmark and Interview Consultant, a Certified Behavioral Analysis Consultant, and a Corporate Etiquette and International Protocol Consultant through The Protocol School of Washington. On DISC he is a Challenger: direct, analytical, and built for hard problems. He teaches from his own growth edge, reminding leaders that a strength overused becomes a blind spot.

Before founding his firm, Jamaal served 20 years in the United States Air Force, including seven and a half years overseas, and continued in federal roles at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, through 2021. As Director Management at Ramstein, he led 120 personnel from 23 Air Force specialties supporting NATO exercises that moved more than 360,000 tons of cargo and enabled approximately 1,000 sorties. He built a $1.2 million staffing package to cover a 63 percent manpower loss and rebuilt a dormant noncombatant evacuation program with plans covering more than 57,000 personnel. That work contributed to two command-level unit awards and earned him the Meritorious Service Medal.

Earlier, as Senior Protocol Manager for 25th Air Force, he advised a two-star commander and senior staff on executive engagement and diplomatic customs. He managed more than 300 distinguished visits, scripted more than 60 general officer events, and coordinated visits with international dignitaries. Assignments in Germany, Romania, and Croatia sharpened his cross-cultural judgment, a skill he still relies on in high-visibility rooms.

Jamaal has also served as a Senior Cyber Consultant to the 688th Cyberspace Wing, where he led after-action reviews and readiness assessments that helped senior leaders identify skill gaps and launch targeted training. As Director of Business Development for the Texas Wild Hogs professional arena football organization, he built sponsorship and chamber partnerships across the San Antonio area. He has also held operations, marketing, and senior protocol responsibilities with the Spirit of the Game Foundation.

In San Antonio, Jamaal holds the Business Coaching seat in the BNI Strategic Alliance Chapter, where he serves as Networking Education Coordinator and on the chapter leadership team. He stays active with local chambers of commerce and business networks, and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity San Antonio.

Jamaal hosts Silent No More with Jamaal Cottrell on Prospera TV Network, a program on men’s mental health, emotional well-being, identity, and the pressure many men carry in silence. He is also an author and columnist for Live From the SouthSide magazine. He speaks on leadership, organizational culture, emotional intelligence, and the mental load today’s leaders carry.

Jamaal holds Boardsi credentials in Corporate Governance, Board Member Essentials, Cyber Risk Governance, and Strategic Leadership and Innovation in the Boardroom. He brings a board the questions that often go unasked: whether the culture matches the strategy, whether the bench is ready to lead, and whether the standard on paper is the one leaders actually enforce. He is open to board and advisory seats across industries, sectors, and stages of growth.

Jamaal believes leadership and well-being are inseparable, and that every organization rises or falls on what its leaders choose to tolerate. He brings that conviction, and the discipline to act on it, to every room he serves.

Character:

Jamaal leads with integrity, accountability, and a commitment to service. Two decades of military duty, a coaching practice built on hard conversations, and a public platform for men’s mental health reflect a leader who values human dignity and the long-term well-being of the people he serves.

Knowledge:

With 20 years of Air Force leadership, more than 28 years of leading people and operations, and graduate training in industrial-organizational psychology, Jamaal brings working knowledge of leadership development, organizational behavior, talent assessment, and operational management.

Strategic:

Jamaal connects strategy to execution. He has planned multinational logistics, rebuilt dormant programs, and advised organizations on performance gaps, consistently tying each plan to a measurable result and a clear owner.

Communication:

Jamaal’s experience spans executive advisory work, international diplomatic engagement, leadership workshops, public speaking, writing, and television hosting. He communicates with clarity, cultural awareness, and conviction, which helps him build trust and align diverse stakeholders around shared goals.
