Wayne Koontz is a highly accomplished sales executive, cultural leader, and strategic coach with over 40 years of experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical, and surgical sales industries. His career has been defined by a consistent drive to lead high-performing teams, launch category-defining products, and transform organizational culture. As a passionate leader grounded in honesty, loyalty, and respect, Wayne has shaped national and regional commercial organizations at leading firms including Allergan/AbbVie, Bausch + Lomb, and Medtronic.

Wayne’s journey began with a foundation built on discipline and determination. A graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics while distinguishing himself as an Academic All-American in football. He later obtained an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, rounding out a formal education that reflected both strategic acumen and athletic grit. These formative years were instrumental in shaping Wayne’s leadership philosophy—rooted in resilience, service, and continuous growth.

Previously, he served as Senior Regional Sales Manager at AbbVie, Wayne was handpicked as the first hire for Allergan’s U.S. Surgical Glaucoma division. He led the successful national launch of the XEN® Gel Stent, driving seven consecutive years of year-over-year growth and achieving division profitability in just 18 months. Under his leadership, the region achieved a remarkable 90% sales force retention rate and promoted more than a dozen representatives into elevated roles, including senior and executive positions. His strategic vision, combined with an unwavering commitment to culture, made this one of the most successful product rollouts in Allergan’s surgical history.

Wayne’s ability to identify and mentor top talent has always been a hallmark of his leadership. At AbbVie, he led the recruitment of 40 territory managers and four regional directors within 60 days, with an average of 15+ years of ophthalmic OR selling experience per hire. He also played a central role in onboarding, training, and culture-building, cultivating teams that consistently outperformed and won major accolades including multiple “President’s Club” and “Leadership Council” recognitions.

Before his tenure at AbbVie, Wayne served as Regional Sales Manager at Bausch + Lomb, overseeing the Premium IOL (Intraocular Lens) business. There, he led high-caliber teams that earned “Rookie of the Year” and “Clinical Outcomes” awards, while mentoring several members into elevated sales and leadership roles. His ability to connect clinical precision with commercial effectiveness made him a respected cross-functional leader within the ophthalmology space.

Wayne’s earlier years at Medtronic (Kyphon Division) demonstrated his rare combination of entrepreneurial drive and structured leadership. As Territory Manager, he grew his book of business from $350,000 to over $2.1 million and was promoted to District Sales Manager just one year later. Over his nine-year tenure, he oversaw operations across 11 states and earned multiple national honors, including “President’s Club,” “Pyramid of Excellence,” and “Olympus Club” awards. His impact extended beyond numbers—he built careers, transformed regional dynamics, and introduced repeatable systems for sustained growth.

Beyond corporate accomplishments, Wayne is deeply committed to leadership coaching and advisory work. He’s consulted for emerging healthcare ventures and startups, offering insight on everything from go-to-market strategy to sales training and team psychology. While at Pangea, he contributed to national sales education initiatives, helping client organizations build winning cultures through values-based coaching and emotional intelligence. He also served on the board of The Garden Project, a community-focused nonprofit aimed at food sustainability and youth development.

Wayne is currently writing two leadership-focused books, a natural extension of his lifelong passion for mentorship and personal growth. A proud “girl dad” and husband of 29 years, he also enjoys golfing and contributing to causes that reflect his values. His personal brand is as much about people as it is about performance, blending ambition with humility and experience with empathy.

Today, Wayne is channeling his vast expertise into board and advisory roles, seeking to partner with innovative companies and purpose-driven leaders. He’s especially passionate about the medical device, pharmaceutical, and organic agriculture sectors, where his strategic insight and sales architecture expertise can be a catalyst for growth. He brings not just a resume of accomplishments, but a life’s work rooted in trust, clarity, and value creation.
