With more than a decade of leadership experience in education and athletics, Michael has built a reputation as a dynamic professional who excels at developing programs, leading teams, managing complex operations, and creating environments where individuals and organizations can thrive. His career reflects a consistent dedication to fostering growth, accountability, and opportunity while empowering others to overcome challenges and realize their full potential.

Today, Michael serves as a Physical Education Teacher at Broadway High School within the San Jose Unified School District. This role provides him with the flexibility to dedicate more time to his family while continuing his work with Boardsi, coaching, and expanding his presence across social media platforms. Through his content and mentorship, Michael draws meaningful connections between real world experiences in athletics and educational administration and the lessons learned on the golf course, inspiring others through leadership, personal growth, and lifelong learning.

Previously serving as the Athletic Director for Atascadero High School in California, Michael oversaw a comprehensive athletic department that supported more than twenty athletic programs and a diverse student population. In this role, he was responsible for strategic planning, budget oversight, compliance management, stakeholder engagement, and the overall development of student-athletes and coaching staff. His leadership extended beyond athletic competition, focusing on building systems that promote academic achievement, personal responsibility, and long-term success for students both on and off the field.

Michael’s journey into leadership began with a passion for education and physical development. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from California State University, San Bernardino, he pursued a teaching credential in Physical Education and entered the classroom determined to make a meaningful impact on young people. As a Physical Education teacher in the Santa Maria Bonita School District, he developed and implemented standards-based curriculum, fostered inclusive learning environments, and encouraged students to embrace lifelong fitness and healthy living. His ability to connect with students, motivate diverse groups, and create positive learning experiences quickly distinguished him as an emerging leader.

During his six years as an educator, Michael also established himself as a successful coach and mentor. He served as Head Volleyball Coach, Head Basketball Coach, and Assistant Baseball Coach, using athletics as a platform to teach discipline, teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. Through these experiences, he gained valuable insight into organizational leadership, team development, and performance management—skills that would later become foundational to his success as an administrator.

Recognizing his passion for organizational leadership and athletic administration, Michael pursued a Master of Science in Athletic Administration from Ohio University. This advanced education provided him with a deeper understanding of strategic planning, risk management, compliance, budgeting, facility operations, and organizational leadership. The combination of academic preparation and practical experience allowed him to transition into athletic administration, where he could influence broader systems and create lasting organizational impact.

Michael’s first athletic director roles provided opportunities to lead large-scale athletic programs while managing operational, financial, and compliance responsibilities. At Cabrillo High School and later within the Lompoc Unified School District, he successfully managed department operations, strengthened communication systems, enhanced accountability measures, and promoted equitable opportunities for student-athletes. His work emphasized Title IX compliance, resource management, and program development, helping organizations create stronger foundations for long-term success.

His leadership capabilities continued to expand during his tenure with Kingman Unified School District in Arizona, where he served as Athletic Director, Associate Athletic Director, and Dean of Students. In these positions, Michael supervised more than seventeen athletic programs while overseeing major operational initiatives. He implemented digital registration and ticketing systems, modernized communication platforms, and directed facility improvement projects that significantly enhanced the student-athlete experience. Among his notable accomplishments was the successful management of a $90,000 baseball facility renovation and additional infrastructure improvements that strengthened athletic resources for the broader community.

Throughout his career, Michael has demonstrated a unique ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on leadership. Whether managing budgets, overseeing facility projects, developing staff, or navigating organizational challenges, he consistently focuses on building systems that improve efficiency, accountability, and outcomes. His expertise spans program development, operations management, financial oversight, risk management, hiring practices, human resources, and stakeholder engagement. These capabilities make him a valuable advisor and leader for organizations seeking sustainable growth and operational excellence.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael is deeply committed to community service and leadership development. He has served on multiple boards and advisory organizations, including the California Coast League Summer Baseball organization, Global Leadership Academy, athletic booster clubs, and disability-focused volunteer initiatives. These experiences have broadened his understanding of governance, nonprofit leadership, community engagement, and strategic decision-making. His ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and unite individuals around shared goals has become one of his defining leadership strengths.

Michael is also an accomplished public speaker who regularly addresses student-athletes, parents, coaches, educators, and community leaders. Whether presenting awards, delivering motivational messages, or leading professional discussions, he communicates with authenticity and purpose. His presentations often focus on perseverance, personal growth, leadership, and the lessons athletics can teach about overcoming adversity. These themes are deeply personal, reflecting his own experiences navigating obstacles and emerging stronger through determination and hard work.

What truly distinguishes Michael is his perspective on leadership. He understands that success is rarely achieved without adversity and that challenges often create opportunities for growth. Having faced obstacles throughout his personal and professional journey, he brings empathy, resilience, and authenticity to every role he undertakes. His leadership philosophy centers on serving others, building meaningful relationships, and creating environments where people feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Today, as he enters his eleventh year in education and leadership, Michael is actively seeking opportunities to expand his impact through board service and advisory leadership. With expertise spanning education, athletics, operations, finance, talent development, and organizational leadership, he offers a practical and people-centered perspective that can help organizations navigate challenges, strengthen culture, and achieve sustainable success.
