    Whitney E. Stein is a seasoned legal professional specializing in transactional law, data privacy, and risk management. With over 20 years of experience, Whitney has demonstrated exceptional leadership in drafting and negotiating complex and high-value contracts for both Fortune 500 companies and startups.     As the Managing Director of Privacy and Risk at modCounsel, Inc., Whitney played a pivotal role in scaling commercial, regulatory, and legal compliance practices. She adeptly navigated US and EU privacy laws and regulations, ensuring clients’ adherence to evolving standards while fostering strategic partnerships and managing dispute resolution processes.

    During her tenure as Assistant General Counsel at Pantheon Systems, Inc., a high growth SaaS company, Whitney demonstrated strong leadership by mentoring a global team in drafting and negotiating SaaS, partner, license, and vendor agreements. She spearheaded compliance, including data privacy, efforts across multiple jurisdictions, including the US, CA, UK, and IN, and initiated a privacy program including introducing privacy by design principles within the product development lifecycle.

    As Senior Director of Global Commercial Contracts at TASKUS, Inc., Whitney managed and trained a high-performing team in negotiating a wide range of vendor contracts, including SaaS and professional services agreements. She developed robust contract risk management frameworks and oversaw commercial sell-side diligence, contributing to significant risk reduction and compliance improvements. She also supported privacy compliance, particularly with regard to marketing practices.  In a risk reduction move applauded by clients, she implemented a “Culture of Confidentiality” among all members of the organization, starting with employees working on the production floor of this business process outsourcing company.

    Whitney’s tenure at Apple Inc. as Senior Corporate Counsel showcased her ability to navigate complex domestic and international agreements, including intellectual property licensing, technology transactions, benefits agreements and other enterprise transactions. She formulated insurance policy wordings to address evolving risks and technologies under several lines of coverage and actively negotiated policy wording in D&O and E&O programs.

    Prior to her corporate roles, Whitney honed her legal skills at Insurance Law Group, Inc., where she collaborated with specialists across various disciplines to close a wide range of contracts for Fortune 500 clients. Whitney gained her fundamental knowledge of the law at Georgetown University Law Center, where she achived her J.D. with honors.  Later, she enhanced her expertise in risk management and compliance matters by obtaining an LLM in Risk Management and Compliance from Texas A&M University.

    Whitney is an active member of the legal community, holding California and D.C. Bar Memberships and certification as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/U.S.). Her commitment to professional development and continuous learning is evident through her volunteer work with the REC Foundation’s VEX Robotics Program.
