“Growth is math, not emotion.”
Tyler Garns is a seasoned growth executive, SaaS entrepreneur, marketing strategist, and business advisor with more than 25 years of professional experience spanning software, marketing, sales, product management, professional services, automation, and business development. Throughout his career, he has developed a reputation for looking beyond individual marketing tactics to understand the complete system responsible for sustainable revenue growth. His philosophy is straightforward: businesses grow most effectively when leaders understand their economics, identify the constraint holding the organization back, and systematically build the capabilities needed to overcome it. This perspective has made Tyler particularly valuable to founders and leadership teams seeking to transform promising businesses into predictable, scalable growth organizations.
Tyler’s professional foundation was built in business development and sales, including more than five years with Pfizer, where he completed extensive professional sales training and advanced into a therapeutic specialty role. Rather than approaching sales as a transactional exercise, he developed an educational and consultative style grounded in research, credibility, and trust. That experience became foundational to his later philosophy about marketing and customer acquisition: meaningful growth comes from understanding customers, educating them, influencing behavior, and creating genuine value throughout the relationship.
His career took a defining turn when he joined Infusionsoft, later known as Keap, while the software company was still in an early stage of growth. Tyler advanced from Internet Marketing Manager to Director of Marketing and ultimately Vice President of Marketing, helping build the company’s marketing infrastructure as it expanded from approximately $4 million to $40 million in annual recurring revenue. He subsequently consulted with the organization as it continued growing toward approximately $100 million ARR. During his leadership tenure, Tyler built an advertising engine that grew from roughly $500 per month to approximately $750,000 per month in advertising spend while increasing monthly lead generation from about 300 to 25,000. He combined this scale with disciplined attention to CAC, LTV, ROAS, lead quality, pipeline performance, attribution, and profitability, demonstrating his ability to connect marketing execution directly to business economics.
Tyler’s influence at Infusionsoft extended well beyond demand generation. He led initiatives across product marketing, positioning, messaging, funnels, automation, webinars, customer marketing, sales enablement, and category strategy. He spent significant time listening to sales conversations and working directly with representatives to improve lead quality and conversion, reflecting his long-standing belief that marketing and sales cannot operate successfully as disconnected functions. He also helped establish “marketing automation for small business” as a meaningful market category and grew the company’s annual customer conference from approximately 50 to more than 500 attendees. His work helped transform an emerging Arizona software company into a recognized leader in small-business marketing automation.
Entrepreneurship became another defining chapter of Tyler’s career. In 2014, he founded Box Out Marketing as a one-person consultancy and grew it into a seven-figure, 16-person marketing automation agency serving hundreds of small businesses and prominent entrepreneurs. As the company evolved, Tyler confronted many of the same challenges that growth-stage founders face: increasing organizational complexity, changing economics, scalability constraints, and the need to move away from highly customized delivery. Rather than simply pursuing additional revenue, he redesigned the company’s model around recurring subscriptions, standardized delivery, improved unit economics, and repeatable systems. He subsequently created The Factory, proprietary technology that converted traditionally custom agency work into a scalable, productized service using standardized campaign types, templates, and workflows. In 2023, Keap acquired The Factory platform and its delivery team.
Tyler continued expanding his influence through Marketing Strategy School, where he worked directly with entrepreneurs on strategy, sales, systems, execution, and growth constraints. His advisory work reinforced an important lesson that now anchors his approach: the problem preventing a company from reaching its next stage is rarely solved simply by generating more leads. As organizations grow, their constraints change. Tyler has helped business owners improve messaging, lead capture, sales processes, automation, delivery models, and business economics, including engagements that resulted in substantial increases in revenue and profitability while simultaneously creating more scalable operating models.
Returning to Keap after the acquisition of The Factory gave Tyler an opportunity to bring his entrepreneurial experience back into a larger software environment. In product and solution architecture leadership roles, he contributed strategic product guidance, worked closely with product managers and engineers, and served as an expert resource across Product, Marketing, Sales, and Implementation. He personally designed, tested, and launched more than 60 automation templates spanning lead generation, webinars, sales follow-up, onboarding, customer lifecycle management, and other fundamental business processes. These templates became the foundation for Keap’s Proven Automations library, helping customers implement sophisticated automation strategies without having to design every workflow from the ground up.
Tyler later served as Vice President of Marketing Strategy at Thryv following its acquisition of Keap. His responsibilities demonstrated the breadth of his executive perspective, extending across enterprise and franchise solutions, product marketing, corporate communications, sales enablement, messaging, positioning, and organizational strategy. He helped develop standardized automation solutions for major franchise customers and partnered across functions to strengthen strategic narratives and product understanding. Importantly, Tyler demonstrated a willingness to look beneath surface-level performance issues. When software sales did not scale as anticipated, he identified a deeper structural conflict between the company’s software ambitions and its sales compensation economics, elevating the issue to executive leadership as a fundamental strategic choice rather than treating it as another marketing or training problem.
Today, Tyler brings these experiences together through Double Your Sales, where he serves as Founder and Software Growth Advisor. His work is centered on helping software founders and leadership teams create predictable, scalable systems for growth. Rather than assuming that every growth problem requires more marketing, Tyler examines the entire customer growth engine—from positioning and messaging through lead generation, conversion, onboarding, activation, retention, expansion, CAC and LTV economics, and sales and marketing systems. His methodology focuses on identifying the company’s most important growth constraint, developing the leadership capability needed to address it, implementing the appropriate systems, and then repeating the process as the organization enters its next stage.
Tyler’s expertise is particularly relevant to SaaS and software businesses with approximately $3 million to $60 million in annual recurring revenue. His capabilities encompass go-to-market strategy, lead generation, digital advertising, marketing automation, customer acquisition, conversion optimization, sales and marketing alignment, product strategy, account management, software development, positioning, messaging, small-business development, and scalable growth systems. His career has given him an unusually broad perspective on how SMB customers discover, evaluate, purchase, implement, and ultimately derive value from technology. International exposure spanning Vietnam, New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom further complements that perspective, along with his working proficiency in Spanish.
As a board member or strategic advisor, Tyler is especially well suited to growth-stage B2B SaaS, MarTech, SMB-focused technology, vertical software, digital services, and technology-enabled businesses. He is particularly valuable when a founder-led company has established a strong product and meaningful revenue but needs to professionalize its go-to-market engine for the next stage of growth. Tyler brings both executive and entrepreneurial credibility to these conversations: he has built marketing organizations, managed substantial acquisition investments, launched software, scaled companies, redesigned business models, productized services, advised founders, participated in product leadership, and experienced an acquisition from the founder’s side. He has also previously served on advisory boards and is now seeking to expand his contribution through additional board and advisory opportunities.
At the center of Tyler’s leadership philosophy is the belief that sustainable growth should be systematic rather than emotional. His maxim, “Growth is math, not emotion,” reflects his preference for disciplined analysis over chasing fashionable tactics. He believes leaders should understand the mathematical and operational relationships between acquisition, conversion, retention, expansion, economics, and organizational capability, then focus resources where they can create the greatest impact. For founders and CEOs, that perspective can turn an overwhelming collection of campaigns, tools, people, processes, and ideas into a coherent growth system with clear priorities.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Tyler enjoys surfing and woodworking—interests that complement a career built around patience, craftsmanship, continual improvement, and creating something meaningful from the fundamentals. Across his career, he has remained deeply interested in helping entrepreneurs and small businesses achieve their potential. Whether serving as an executive, entrepreneur, advisor, or board member, Tyler brings an operator’s understanding of growth and a strategist’s ability to determine what matters most. His greatest contribution is not simply helping an organization “do more marketing,” but helping leadership understand what is truly limiting growth, build the capability required to overcome that constraint, and create a stronger company in the process.
