Loren Holihan: Connecting Innovation with Opportunity and Strategy with Execution

Published on:

“I believe in people, and I believe in getting them to communicate.”

Loren J. Holihan is an accomplished telecommunications, wireless infrastructure, product management, and business development executive whose career spans more than three decades of technological transformation. From financial and business planning to product leadership, strategic account management, infrastructure sales, and executive customer engagement, Loren has developed a rare ability to connect technical innovation with practical business outcomes. His career has been defined by bringing people together around complex challenges, translating customer needs into executable strategies, and helping organizations navigate rapidly evolving markets. At the center of his leadership philosophy is a simple conviction: strong businesses are built when talented people communicate effectively, understand one another’s priorities, and work toward a common objective.

Loren built much of his career within Lucent Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent, and Nokia, progressing through increasingly influential roles across financial planning, business management, product management, program leadership, sales engineering, and strategic account leadership. His early work in wireless financial and business planning provided a foundation in budgeting, income-statement management, headcount planning, financial analysis, and process improvement. That grounding in financial discipline would become an important differentiator as he moved closer to technology development and commercialization, enabling him to evaluate technical decisions not simply as engineering challenges, but through the lenses of investment, profitability, customer value, and long-term business performance.

As Loren advanced into product management, he assumed responsibility for telecommunications infrastructure products and their complete business lifecycles. He held P&L responsibility for a product line generating approximately $1.2 billion in revenue and contributed to major cost-reduction initiatives tied to business-unit targets exceeding $150 million. His responsibilities extended across product planning, new product introduction, customer requirements, pricing, sales strategy, feature prioritization, and product maturity. During this period, he helped develop strategic marketing and bid plans that contributed to a $500 million exclusive vendor contract with a major service provider as well as approximately $80 million in revenue associated with an emerging market opportunity. His work also extended into intellectual property, including his involvement as an inventor in patented telecommunications technology related to protecting electronics systems from electromagnetic interference.

The evolution from CDMA to LTE and eventually 5G placed Loren at the center of some of the wireless industry’s most consequential technology transitions. As an LTE program and senior product line leader, he worked directly with Tier 1 and Tier 2 North American carriers to understand network requirements and translate those requirements into product, portfolio, packaging, and pricing strategies. He led and supported technical bid responses, bid defenses, customer trials, field-sales training, and product-development initiatives while helping align engineering organizations with commercial priorities. His work contributed to more than 30 trial wins and multiple contracts, while disciplined packaging and pricing strategies helped improve solution-level margins by approximately 10 percentage points over a three-year period despite continuing market pricing pressure.

Loren subsequently moved deeper into customer-facing sales and solutions leadership, working closely with major wireless carriers as network architecture progressed toward advanced LTE and 5G. His ability to operate comfortably between engineering, product development, sales, finance, and the customer allowed him to become an effective translator between organizations that often approached the same challenge from very different perspectives. Working with Verizon and internal research and development teams, he helped define radio products supporting advanced LTE, Massive MIMO, and next-generation wireless networks. He also established new opportunities for small-cell deployments, developed partnerships with product vendors and real estate organizations, and presented technical and commercial solutions to regional and executive stakeholders.

As Verizon Account Director for Nokia, Loren brought together the technical, financial, commercial, and relationship-management experience developed throughout his career. In this role, he influenced more than $400 million in Verizon radio access network capital spending, partnering with central planning organizations around technology direction, budgets, network requirements, and the business case for Nokia solutions. He helped channel requirements from regional Verizon organizations into Nokia’s radio product-development process and drove the adoption of Massive MIMO technology across 26 Verizon markets. The role demonstrated Loren’s ability to operate at both strategic and practical levels—understanding long-range technology roadmaps while remaining attentive to regional requirements, deployment realities, economics, and customer outcomes.

Following his extensive career with Nokia and its predecessor organizations, Loren joined ConcealFab/Valmont Industries, where he expanded his leadership into telecommunications infrastructure and concealment solutions. As a national sales leader, he developed executive relationships with Tier 1 communications service providers and telecommunications organizations while supporting solutions deployed across more than 20 commercial and government projects. He helped expand the company’s addressable market into new infrastructure segments, redesigned sales compensation to strengthen collaboration and alignment, and championed more standardized sales processes and Salesforce adoption across a business unit generating more than $60 million in revenue. His work demonstrated the adaptability to transfer decades of large-enterprise experience into a specialized infrastructure environment where entrepreneurial thinking and cross-functional coordination were equally important.

Today, Loren continues that progression as an Associate with Dave Murphy & Associates, developing opportunities across carriers, municipalities, utilities, integrators, and other participants in the small-cell and network-infrastructure ecosystem. His responsibilities encompass account development, complex multi-party engagements, CRM strategy, forecasting, and business-development processes. He has also embraced artificial intelligence and generative AI as practical tools for bid research, CRM enrichment, proposal development, and sales execution. Rather than viewing technology transformation as something confined to network infrastructure, Loren continues to explore how emerging tools can improve the everyday processes through which organizations identify opportunities, make decisions, communicate value, and serve customers.

Across these roles, Loren has developed expertise spanning telecommunications, wireless infrastructure, RAN, LTE, 5G, product and portfolio management, strategic sales, business development, P&L management, financial modeling, program management, process improvement, and cross-functional leadership. His professional credibility is reinforced by extensive peer recognition for telecommunications, product management, wireless, LTE, business development, and related disciplines. He has participated as a conference speaker and panel member and has experience communicating with audiences ranging from technical specialists and sales organizations to senior executives and customers. His career has also given him international exposure through work and travel involving Peru, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Canada, and other global business environments.

Loren’s academic background complements this combination of technical, commercial, and interpersonal experience. He earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Seton Hall University’s Stillman School of Business, along with a graduate certificate in International Business, after completing a Bachelor of Arts in English, cum laude, at The Catholic University of America. The combination is particularly representative of his career: financial and strategic rigor paired with a strong appreciation for language, communication, and the human dimension of leadership. His professional philosophy has consistently centered on helping people communicate across functional, organizational, and technical boundaries so that good ideas can become meaningful results.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Loren remains actively engaged with the telecommunications community and currently serves on the planning committee for the New Jersey Wireless Association. He also places significant value on volunteerism, service, and hands-on problem solving. Away from formal business settings, he enjoys projects of virtually every scale, whether helping neighbors, working on family projects, renovating a home, building a birdhouse, or constructing a backyard patio. That instinct to build, improve, and help is closely connected to the way he approaches professional challenges: understand what is needed, bring the right people together, and find a practical path forward.

Loren’s interest in board and advisory service reflects his desire to remain actively engaged in the business world while putting decades of accumulated knowledge to work for organizations that can benefit from it. He is particularly interested in telecommunications, solar, technology, infrastructure, and adjacent opportunities, with an affinity for small and mid-sized companies where experienced guidance can have a visible impact. He brings not only a substantial professional network and deep telecommunications background, but also experience evaluating markets, managing products, developing business cases, leading cross-functional initiatives, negotiating major commercial opportunities, and balancing customer needs with organizational realities. For Loren, board service represents an opportunity to contribute experience and perspective while continuing to learn, collaborate, and help other leaders succeed.

Ultimately, Loren’s career is a story of progression across the full business lifecycle—from financial planning and product economics to technology development, commercialization, sales, customer leadership, and market expansion. He understands how an idea moves from a technical requirement to a product roadmap, how that product becomes a commercial proposition, how a complex customer evaluates its value, and how organizations must coordinate internally to deliver successfully. Just as importantly, he understands that strategies are executed by people. His combination of experience, curiosity, compassion, and practical leadership makes his guiding philosophy especially fitting: believe in people, get them communicating, and create an environment in which they can accomplish meaningful things together.
