Kevin Lambert, Psy.D., MBA, is a licensed psychologist, entrepreneur, executive leader, educator, and trusted advisor whose career has been defined by a commitment to helping individuals, families, professionals, and organizations reach healthier and more meaningful levels of performance. As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Great Life Counseling Center, Dr. Lambert has built a professional platform that integrates clinical psychology, business leadership, executive and parent coaching, education, and organizational development. His work reflects an ability to understand both the human dynamics behind decision-making and the strategic disciplines required to build sustainable organizations — a combination he has applied inside his own company and across more than a decade of board and association leadership.
Governance and Professional Service
Leadership outside of his own organization has been a defining part of Dr. Lambert’s professional journey.
Dr. Lambert was appointed an Overseer of One Community Church in Plano, Texas, by its founding and senior pastor, Dr. Conway Edwards. Founded in 2008, One Community Church has grown to approximately 13,000 in weekend attendance across six campuses in the North Dallas Metroplex, along with a very strong global following of its iCampus platform. The role places Dr. Lambert with the part of the body charged with the oversight of the church and its leadership — governance of an organization comparable in operational complexity to a mid-sized enterprise, with multi-site operations, professional staff, and the budget and risk exposure that accompany them. Dr. Edwards has also entrusted Dr. Lambert to be the clinical lead of the church’s 4 day marrriage intensive program for couples on the brink of divorce.
Earlier, he served on the Board of Directors of Galaxy Counseling Center and was elected Chairman and President, contributing to strategic planning, governance, marketing, executive oversight, and organizational development. He later served for four years on the Executive Committee of the Dallas Psychological Association, including leadership roles as Treasurer, President-Elect Designate, and President-Elect. Through these positions he gained hands-on experience in association governance, financial oversight, programming, committee leadership, and strategic coordination while contributing to the broader advancement of the psychology profession in the Dallas–Fort Worth community.
His contributions to the field were formally recognized in 2023, when the Dallas Psychological Association honored him as its Distinguished Psychologist of the Year. Dr. Lambert is a Texas Licensed Psychologist and also holds authorization to practice interjurisdictional telepsychology through the PSYPACT Commission, further extending his capacity to serve clients and organizations across geographic boundaries.
Great Life Counseling Center
In January 2012, Dr. Lambert founded Lambert Psychology, PLLC, the organization that evolved into Great Life Counseling Center. As Founder and CEO, he assumed responsibility not only for clinical excellence but also for organizational direction, operational performance, marketing strategy, resource management, revenue development, supervision, and long-term growth. Under his leadership, the organization has developed from a solo practice into a multi-clinician platform for psychotherapy, assessment, coaching, consultation, workshops, and professional development. His executive role requires him to move fluidly between vision and execution — supporting clients, developing clinicians, guiding business strategy, cultivating the organization’s brand, and identifying opportunities for sustainable expansion.
The center is also a training institution. Dr. Lambert supervises advanced doctoral practicum students, predoctoral interns, and postdoctoral fellows full-time and the training curriculum is built on a framework he developed and is now completing as a book — The Psychotherapist’s Formation: Philosophy, Bias, and the Examined Position, currently in editorial review. The framework addresses a problem that is not confined to psychotherapy: how a professional identifies the assumptions already shaping his judgment, and what it takes to hold a position deliberately rather than by default. Building the program has meant treating clinician development as a talent pipeline — defining the competencies that matter, measuring them, and retaining the people the process produces.
Areas of Expertise
Dr. Lambert’s areas of expertise are broad yet interconnected. Clinically, he has developed particular strength in couples therapy, child and family therapy, life transitions, divorce, grief, identity development, career development, spirituality and faith concerns, psychological assessment, and personal growth. Beyond traditional clinical practice, he brings extensive experience in executive coaching, leadership development, strategic consulting, conflict resolution, change management, staff development, public speaking, training, and program development. His background allows him to view professional and personal challenges through multiple lenses, recognizing that leadership performance, organizational culture, relationships, identity, and emotional well-being are often deeply intertwined.
Education and Career Background
Dr. Lambert pursued his academic foundation at Illinois State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology in 1999. He then continued his professional education at Spalding University’s School of Professional Psychology, where he earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 2003 and a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology in 2006. His doctoral work included research focused on the development of a faith-community premarital program, reflecting an early interest in the intersection of psychology, relationships, values, spirituality, and practical intervention.
His clinical development was shaped by progressively demanding roles across community mental health, family services, assessment, university counseling, and supervision — beginning as an Adjunctive Therapist with what is now Centerstone Kentucky, continuing through a pre-doctoral psychology internship with the organization now known as Momentous Institute in Dallas, and including focused training in couples work through an externship at Southwestern Medical Center’s Family Studies Center.
His next major chapter unfolded at Southern Methodist University, where he served for nearly a decade in the university’s health and counseling environment as a staff psychologist and senior clinical professional, treating individuals and couples, performing mandated evaluations, and supervising trainees. His work at SMU broadened his perspective beyond direct clinical care by exposing him to the developmental challenges faced by emerging leaders, students, professionals, and organizations. It also strengthened his capabilities in mentorship, supervision, crisis response, professional development, and institutional collaboration.
Recognizing that effective leadership requires more than clinical expertise, Dr. Lambert deliberately expanded his business acumen by earning an MBA from the SMU Cox School of Business in 2011. His studies emphasized strategic leadership, management and organizations, strategy, and entrepreneurship. He was recognized as a Distinguished Business Leader and participated in the Cox Business Leadership Center’s Dean’s Circle, experiences that deepened his understanding of organizational strategy, financial stewardship, entrepreneurial decision-making, and executive leadership. The combination of a Psy.D. and an MBA allows him to work at the intersection of the psychology of people and the strategic mechanics of organizations.
Approach
At the center of Dr. Lambert’s work is a belief that meaningful development requires both compassion and accountability. He approaches leadership and psychological work with the conviction that people are most likely to grow when they feel respected, understood, challenged, and equipped with practical tools for change. Whether working with a couple navigating conflict, a professional facing a career transition, an executive strengthening leadership effectiveness, or an organization seeking greater clarity and alignment, he strives to create environments where insight can be translated into action.
Character
Dr. Lambert demonstrates character through a career grounded in service, ethical responsibility, empathy, and a consistent commitment to the development of others. His leadership reflects a balance of warmth and accountability, enabling him to build trust while encouraging individuals and organizations to confront challenges constructively and pursue meaningful growth. That accountability is structural as well as personal: the clinicians he trains practice under his own license, an arrangement in which their judgment remains legally and ethically his responsibility, and his board and association service was volunteer work sustained over years while he was building his own practice.
Knowledge
He brings a broad knowledge base that spans clinical psychology, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, strategic leadership, assessment, coaching, and human development. His combined Psy.D. and MBA education allows him to integrate behavioral insight with business judgment, making his perspective particularly valuable in situations where people, performance, and organizational strategy intersect — whether a team’s underperformance is a people problem, an incentive problem, or a problem of design. His book-length work on professional judgment under bias represents twenty years of assessing how individuals and systems actually behave rather than how they describe themselves.
Strategic
Dr. Lambert demonstrates strategic capability through his development of Great Life Counseling Center, his governance experience, and his ability to translate long-term vision into practical programs, services, and organizational priorities. He built a solo practice into a multi-clinician organization with a doctoral training program that develops and retains its own talent — a deliberate answer to a workforce shortage most practices in his field address reactively. As an elected board chairman, as an association treasurer, and currently as an overseer of a multi-campus church of roughly 13,000, he has made resource allocation and governance decisions with other people’s money and other people’s mandates.
Communication
An experienced communicator whose work as a psychologist, coach, supervisor, educator, workshop facilitator, and public speaker has required clarity across a wide range of audiences. His communication style combines accessibility, professionalism, insight, and thoughtful challenge, helping others understand complex issues and convert new perspectives into purposeful action. He is practiced in particular at delivering an unwelcome assessment in a form the recipient can act on — the central skill of both clinical supervision and board-level candor.
