JUAN D CARDENAS (JD) ”My approach is built on full accountability and commitment to growth, always providing clarity over certainty and a positive and engaging mindset”.
Juan D. Cardenas is a globally respected executive whose legacy is built on nearly four decades of exceptional leadership in global supply chain operations, organizational transformation, and strategic innovation. Known for his calm decisiveness, multicultural fluency, and people-first leadership, Juan spent 36 years at Procter & Gamble, where he ascended through roles of increasing responsibility, ultimately becoming Senior Vice President of Supply Chain for both North and Latin America. His career is a powerful example of what happens when deep technical knowledge, relentless curiosity, and human-centric leadership converge to create long-term impact in complex global environments.
Juan’s professional journey began with a degree in Production Engineering from Universidad EAFIT in Colombia, followed by an MBA in Operations and Logistics from The Ohio State University. This academic foundation laid the groundwork for a career defined by strategic thinking and operational mastery. Juan began his tenure at P&G in his native Colombia, rising from Process Engineer to Plant Manager in the company’s Beauty Care division. These early roles grounded him in the daily realities of production while instilling a deep respect for process efficiency and people development.
His transition to regional planning roles in Venezuela and later Mexico signaled the beginning of his global journey. Juan excelled in creating interconnected strategies across multiple countries, aligning planning and production to maximize resource allocation and reduce waste. He quickly gained recognition for his ability to link granular operational performance to broader business outcomes, often improving efficiency while simultaneously strengthening team cohesion and morale.
As he advanced, Juan’s career took him across continents. He, ultimately, led major P&G supply chains and manufacturing operations across all P&G categories, first in Latin America (based in Panama) and then in North America – United States and Canada – (based in Cincinnati). He was overseeing the total supply chain from material purchases (including suppliers’ relationships), manufacturing, logistics and customer and consumer services (including customers relationships), and having the responsibility for the departments of engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, logistics, planning, procurement, new initiatives launch, human resources and supply chain finance.
Juan also led specific categories in North America, including innovation and operations in critical sectors such as Beauty, Grooming, Laundry, Paper, Health and Skin Care. His responsibilities included managing the full value chain from raw materials to customer delivery, integrating digital transformation initiatives, aligning logistics with customer service excellence and the defining the overall business strategies. His leadership was instrumental in supporting key partnerships with retail giants like Walmart, Amazon, Costco, and Target across the Americas, and exceeding the company revenue and profit targets (top and bottom line) while he was the senior leader of these operations.
One of Juan’s hallmark contributions was his role in leading the startup of three “greenfield” operations—capital projects with investments exceeding $80 million each. These initiatives brought thousands of jobs to local markets and served as global models for efficiency and innovation. Juan’s approach combined operational rigor with a keen sense of cultural and organizational alignment, ensuring not only business success but also lasting community and team impact.
Throughout his career, Juan became known for driving resilient supply chains under pressure. Whether navigating global disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic or managing region-wide shortages in Latin America, he consistently positioned P&G ahead of competitors by integrating strategy with agile execution. His leadership enabled year-over-year revenue growth, higher customer satisfaction, and sustained profitability during some of the company’s most challenging moments. Under Juan’s leadership, businesses consistently exceeded supply chain excellence performance, internally and externally, and P&G was recognized with the “Gartner Master Award in Supply Chain” behind the mindset for delivering growth and innovation through a very strong supply chain mastery strategy – currently only P&G, Amazon, Apple and Unilever hold this distinction.
But Juan’s influence extended well beyond logistics and numbers. As a mentor and leader, he championed inclusive leadership, wellbeing, and workforce empowerment. He fostered environments where people felt seen, heard, and valued—emphasizing clarity of purpose, connection to strategy, and alignment with personal growth. He led diversity and inclusion efforts and understood that the strength of a supply chain often begins with the strength of its people.
Juan also played a critical role in M&A integration efforts, helping absorb major companies like Gillette, Clairol, and Native into P&G’s structure. His understanding of how to unify supply chains, data systems, customer relationships, and workforce culture proved indispensable in helping these transitions succeed with minimal disruption. He was also a key driver of systems implementation, from SAP to predictive analytics software, ensuring that operational upgrades aligned with strategic goals.
With professional fluency in both English and Spanish and hands-on experience working in over 20 countries — including China, India, Thailand, Japan, the UK, France, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile and Peru — Juan brings a uniquely global perspective. His multicultural understanding and communication skills make him not only an expert in operations but also a trusted connector across cultures, industries, and organizational layers.
Now, following his retirement in late 2024, Juan is seeking to bring his extensive knowledge, global perspective, and leadership insights to boardrooms and advisory roles. He is especially interested in supporting startups, mid-cap companies, and private equity-backed ventures across industries such as CPG, logistics, pharmaceuticals, and contract manufacturing. His goal is to remain engaged, to continue learning and giving, and to help businesses thrive by applying his decades of wisdom with humility, precision, and heart.
