Jeff Parks: Building Strong Teams, Lasting Client Relationships, and Sustainable Profits Through Hands-On Leadership

Published on:

Jeff Parks is a seasoned C-level executive, operational strategist, and business leader whose career spans approximately five decades across the commercial and non-commercial food service, distribution, hospitality, vending, micro market, office refreshment, and dining services industries. Throughout his career, Jeff has built a reputation for combining hands-on operational leadership with disciplined financial management, employee development, customer retention, and profitable growth. His experience ranges from managing individual operations early in his career to leading complex, multi-state organizations with thousands of employees, extensive distribution networks, and diverse service portfolios. That progression has given him a practical understanding of business from the front line to the executive suite and boardroom.

Jeff’s professional foundation was established through management and leadership positions with organizations including Holly’s Steak and Four Restaurants, ARA Services, and Marriott Corporation. These formative roles exposed him to restaurants, higher education, conference centers, business dining, and other hospitality environments while steadily expanding his responsibility for people, operations, and financial performance. At ARAMARK Corporation, formerly ARA Services, Jeff advanced to Division General Manager, assuming operational and P&L accountability for 12 business dining and higher education locations as well as a vending division. In that capacity, he directed 15 managers and approximately 150 employees responsible for $12 million in annual sales, further developing the leadership disciplines that would define the next stages of his career.

In 1992, Jeff joined CL Swanson Corporation, where his career entered a significant period of executive growth. Initially serving as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President, he was entrusted with strategic and operational leadership across nine automatic merchandising regions, 27 dining service contracts, and multiple commissary and catering facilities. Working directly with the company’s second-generation chief executive, Jeff focused on improving profitability, reducing debt, controlling costs, standardizing operating procedures, and establishing a foundation for organic growth and aggressive new business development. His leadership contributed to five consecutive years of approximately 9% annual sales growth and four consecutive years of substantial increases in net division profit.

Jeff’s performance at CL Swanson ultimately led to his promotion to President, a position he held for more than a decade. He exercised broad administrative authority across a nine-state footprint encompassing 43 dining service locations, nine vending distribution regions serving hundreds of customers, three food production facilities, and an equipment manufacturing operation. His responsibilities extended well beyond operational oversight; they included organizational development, sales and marketing, employee engagement, customer experience, financial performance, and long-range growth. Under his leadership, the organization expanded its range of services, significantly increased dining and catering revenue, maintained strong management retention, and achieved client retention levels reported in the 96% to 98% range.

After years of leading established organizations, Jeff brought his experience into an entrepreneurial setting by founding Parks Strategies LLC. As Principal and Owner, he advised businesses in the non-commercial food service industry on operational improvement, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, new business development, sales performance, customer retention, and profitability. His consulting work allowed him to approach companies with what he described as a “fresh eyes” perspective—examining established practices objectively and identifying opportunities for meaningful improvement. Across 14 client projects, his work identified more than $4 million in potential savings while also addressing leadership enhancement, technology adoption, distribution efficiency, and organizational performance. His clients included Imperial Vending, The Cuyahoga Group, Evergreen Vending, and 365 Retail Markets.

Jeff subsequently became President of Southern Refreshment Services and later President of the Atlanta Region following its evolution within Five Star Food Service. Leading a privately held organization with hundreds of associates, Jeff directed a management structure spanning vice presidents, directors, manufacturing leadership, and geographically dispersed sales and marketing professionals. During a seven-year period, the business grew to approximately $85 million in sales, while EBITDA earnings increased substantially and customer retention averaged 98.3%. His tenure also included the successful acquisition of three significant competitors, demonstrating his ability to integrate growth strategy with operational execution while maintaining strong employee and customer relationships.

From 2018 through 2025, Jeff served as Executive Vice President of Five Star Breaktime Solutions, bringing decades of leadership experience to one of the Southeast’s major providers of workplace food and beverage solutions. His scope encompassed a broad service platform that included micro markets, vending, corporate pantry services, coffee and filtered water, dining, catering, sustainable supplies, coffee roasting, and fresh food production. The enterprise operated dozens of distribution centers and dining locations, thousands of micro markets and vending machines, and employed approximately 2,700 people. With six Regional Vice Presidents reporting to him, Jeff helped oversee a substantial multi-state operating network while maintaining a focus on above-industry financial performance and customer retention reported at approximately 97%.

Across these executive assignments, Jeff has consistently focused on the relationship between people, customers, operations, and profitability. He views employee development and retention not as isolated human resources objectives, but as essential components of sustainable business performance. His career reflects an ability to create accountable management structures while developing leaders who can execute independently and effectively. Whether improving operating margins, evaluating organizational structures, integrating acquisitions, strengthening customer relationships, or identifying new revenue opportunities, Jeff brings an operator’s perspective grounded in decades of direct experience.

Jeff also brings previous corporate governance experience to his interest in future board and advisory service. He served on the Board of Directors of Zaug’s Services Inc. from 2011 to 2014, complementing his extensive fiduciary and executive responsibilities throughout his operating career. His experience as an entrepreneur through Parks Strategies further strengthened his ability to examine organizations from an independent advisory perspective rather than solely through the lens of day-to-day management. He is particularly interested in opportunities involving distribution, food service channels, retail, and privately held businesses, where his operational background, growth experience, and understanding of customer-centered service organizations can be applied most directly.

Education and continued executive development have also played an important role in Jeff’s professional journey. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California Coast University and complemented his formal education with executive development programs through organizations and institutions including NAMA and Michigan State, Stanford University, and the University of Florida. He also earned the NAMA Certified Executive designation through the National Automatic Merchandising Association. Together with decades of applied experience, this development has given Jeff a combination of formal business knowledge and practical insight developed through economic cycles, competitive changes, technological evolution, acquisitions, and shifts in customer expectations.

Jeff’s leadership experience also carries an international dimension through exposure to China, adding perspective to a career otherwise deeply rooted in multi-state U.S. operations. He has participated in speaking engagements throughout his career and remains open to opportunities to share his knowledge when the subject aligns with his experience. Rather than approaching leadership as a theoretical exercise, Jeff draws from situations in which results were measurable: growing revenue, increasing profitability, retaining customers, developing employees, improving organizations, integrating businesses, and guiding teams through change.

At this stage of his career, Jeff is pursuing board and advisory opportunities because he values the opportunity to help organizations and leadership teams solve meaningful business challenges. His previous board service and the years he spent running his own consulting firm demonstrated how rewarding it can be to contribute experience, perspective, and constructive guidance without needing to occupy the chief executive’s chair. With approximately 50 years of professional experience, Jeff offers institutional knowledge coupled with an operator’s instinct for identifying what can realistically be executed. He is especially positioned to contribute to organizations seeking guidance around operational excellence, executive development, profitability, employee retention, customer relationships, distribution strategy, acquisitions, and sustainable growth.

Away from business, Jeff places significant value on family and enjoys golf. Those interests reflect an appreciation for relationships, discipline, and the importance of maintaining perspective after a career spent carrying substantial organizational responsibility. His professional story is ultimately one of progression—from hands-on hospitality management to divisional leadership, the presidency of major regional operations, entrepreneurship, executive leadership of a large multi-state enterprise, and board service. Across each chapter, the consistent themes have remained people, performance, accountability, customer loyalty, and the belief that sustainable results are created by strong organizations rather than short-term solutions.

Knowledge:
With approximately five decades of experience, Jeff possesses extensive practical knowledge of food service, distribution, vending, micro markets, hospitality, customer retention, operations, acquisitions, organizational development, and profit generation. His progression from frontline management through C-level leadership, consulting, entrepreneurship, and board service enables him to understand both strategic decisions and the operational realities required to execute them.
