Dr. Hossam (Sam) Youssef is a minded psychologist, researcher, human rights consultant, healthcare leader, and published author whose career spans more than four decades across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. His professional journey reflects a rare integration of science, psychology, theology, spirituality, and social responsibility, guided by a lifelong commitment to advancing human dignity, equity, and holistic well-being. Throughout his work, Dr. Youssef has consistently bridged academic rigor with real-world impact, earning recognition as a trusted advisor, educator, and change agent in complex and evolving systems.

Dr. Youssef’s career began in clinical physical therapy as a Board-certified therapist, where he developed deep expertise in neurological rehabilitation, motor control theory research, and patient-centered care. As a licensed and board-certified physical therapist for more than 30 years in the United States, he worked extensively with hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, home health agencies, serving diverse populations with complex medical and psychosomatic needs. These early years shaped his foundational belief that healing cannot be reduced to the physical body alone, but must account for psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of the human experience.

Driven by this integrative vision, Dr. Youssef expanded his professional focus into research psychology, spiritual counseling, and natural health. He founded and led multiple holistic and alternative therapy centers in the United States, Egypt, and Oman, including the Alternative Therapies Centers in Chicago and Egypt, Healing Light Therapy Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In these leadership roles, he combined evidence-based rehabilitation, cognitive and subconscious mind studies, hypnotherapy, energy medicine, and spiritual counseling to support patients seeking comprehensive psycho-somatic treatment. His work positioned him as an early advocate of interdisciplinary, whole-person healthcare models.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Youssef pursued an extensive academic path, earning multiple advanced degrees that reflect both depth and breadth of inquiry. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Pastoral Counseling Psychology and a Doctorate in Theocentric Psychology from the University of Sedona, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in General Psychology with an emphasis on cognition from Grand Canyon University, where he continues his doctoral research. He also earned a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, grounding his psychological work in rigorous medical science.

Dr. Youssef’s scholarly pursuits have been driven by a sustained interest in the conscious and subconscious mind, Jungian archetypal theory, spirituality in counseling, and the ethical dimensions of human behavior. His doctoral research and academic writing explore how implicit cognitive processes shape personality, health outcomes, and social systems. In recent years, his research focus has expanded to include the study of implicit racial bias in healthcare, using qualitative methodologies to examine its impact on patient care, equity, and institutional decision-making in the United States.

As a thought leader and author, Dr. Youssef has published ten books and more than forty academic articles across psychology, philosophy, parapsychology, natural therapies, and human rights. His works, published widely in Egypt and the Middle East, reflect a long-standing commitment to public education and cross-cultural dialogue. His book Spirituality and Psychology, published in 2022, synthesizes decades of clinical experience and research, arguing for the ethical and therapeutic value of integrating spirituality into modern counseling psychology.

In recognition of his professional impact, Dr. Youssef has received numerous honors, including the 2025 Certificate of Recognition awarded from the RNC Presidential Task Force as a recognized leader in the State of Indiana presented by the President of the United States, the Career Achievement Award and Outstanding Therapist Award from the Center of Excellence Academy in England, as well as the Clinician of the Year Award from Gentiva Health Care. He was also honored with the lifetime membership of the International Honor Society in Psychology (Psi Chi) in recognition of his outstanding scholastic achievement and excellence in the field of Psychology. These accolades underscore his influence across both clinical and academic domains, as well as his reputation for compassionate leadership and excellence in practice.
