“Everything is difficult until it isn’t.”
For over four decades, Donald Musilli has been at the forefront of industrial evolution—merging the
pragmatism of engineering with a visionary’s curiosity for innovation. His extensive background in
manufacturing, design engineering, and applied technologies has made him a quiet pioneer in
transforming how businesses and educational institutions leverage technology for growth, learning,
and global impact. From his foundational years in industrial sales to launching successful
entrepreneurial ventures in filtration systems and 3D printing, Don has consistently led with insight,
precision, and a relentless desire to improve processes and products alike.
Born in Buffalo, New York, and raised across Erie, Pennsylvania, and Cleveland, Ohio, Don
developed an early appreciation for craftsmanship and discipline—traits that would guide his career.
In 1970, he graduated from Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, embarking shortly thereafter
on a career that would span industrial marketing, aerospace collaborations, entrepreneurial ventures,
and groundbreaking educational initiatives. His hands-on approach and refusal to settle for the status
quo became evident in his first roles with WW Sly and Lear Siegler, where he navigated the
intricacies of industrial air filtration and sales engineering.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Don’s career took a significant turn when he joined R. Rogers, Inc.,
covering expansive territories across the American West. Working directly with engineering firms and
mining operations, he also engaged with technology transfer programs that introduced NASA
innovations into the private sector. This period marked the first major intersection of Don’s interests:
technological advancement and practical business application. His work with the Aerospace
Research Application Center (ARAC) from 1982 to 1986 further deepened his reputation as a liaison
between government-level innovation and real-world industrial needs, establishing a foundation for
future entrepreneurial endeavors.
In 1985, Don embarked on what would become one of the most defining chapters of his professional
journey—founding Pure Air Systems, Inc. Drawing on his expertise in air filtration and inspired by the
modularity of NASA systems, he engineered a powerful line of HEPA filtration systems designed for
both residential and commercial environments. From humble beginnings working out of his garage,
Don scaled Pure Air Systems into a global player, eventually operating from a custom-built 9,000-
square-foot facility. The company’s incorporation of advanced ECM motors in the late 1990s
positioned it as a leader in energy-efficient air purification. Even after Don sold the company in 2006,
it remains one of only three firms worldwide to specialize in this niche segment of high-end air
filtration.
Never one to remain idle, Don fused his entrepreneurial spirit with his love for scuba diving by co-
founding Dive World USA, a certified PADI center that served the local Florida community for sixyears. This venture, located at the back of his main facility, exemplified Don’s ability to harmonize
passion and business—an approach that has defined his personal brand for decades.
In the 2010s, Don shifted gears to focus on educational and nonprofit work, founding the Englewood
Incubation Center. With the rise of affordable 3D printing technologies, he seized the opportunity to
empower local STEM students through hands-on design-to-production experiences. His pioneering
spirit found new life in these initiatives, and he later expanded his reach through Liteworld LLC, a
company dedicated to distributing 3D printers to schools. Don placed over 60 units in Florida
institutions, introducing thousands of students to additive manufacturing—a skill now fundamental to
the workforce of tomorrow.
As part of Liteworld’s expansion, Don also organized 3D Mini Camps for Kids, intimate workshops
that gave children aged 8 to 14 the chance to explore CAD modeling and 3D printing in his own
home. These camps became so popular that parents reserved spots months in advance. Don’s
educational impact reverberated across school districts, with many students later acquiring their own
printers and launching small businesses—living testaments to his mentorship.
Don also explored the horizon of construction technology through 3D Build Systems, Inc., a forward-
thinking company aiming to use large-scale 3D printers to fabricate homes. Although ahead of its time
and ultimately short-lived, the initiative demonstrated Don’s ceaseless appetite for pioneering
solutions. Today, as the construction world begins to embrace this very concept, his early vision looks
remarkably prescient.
Beyond entrepreneurship and education, Don’s commitment to community development has been
unwavering. He served on the Advisory Board of the Community Redevelopment Association from
2012 to 2015, a state-funded nonprofit supporting local business development in Sarasota County. In
this role, he helped allocate matching funds for commercial improvements, reinforcing his belief that
innovation must be tethered to community betterment.
Today, Don Musilli continues to operate Liteworld LLC, offering prototyping services, small-batch
production, and ongoing mentorship. His professional interests span design engineering, AI, soft
technology, and medical devices—fields where he can continue to bridge his knowledge with
meaningful growth for others. With global exposure in regions like London and Africa and over 40
years of cross-disciplinary experience, Don brings a rare depth of understanding and adaptability to
every opportunity.
