Candace Renfrow: Building the Human Systems that Power Business Transformation

Published on:

“I build the cultures that make transformation possible.”

Candace Renfrow is a global people, culture, and workforce transformation executive whose career has been defined by a central conviction: organizations achieve extraordinary results when business strategy and human potential move together. Across more than two decades, Candace has advised senior executives and built the leadership systems, talent architectures, and organizational cultures required to navigate growth, technological disruption, restructuring, and enterprise-wide change. Her experience spans advanced manufacturing, AI infrastructure, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and gene therapy, healthcare, energy, and consumer technology. Whether working with executives in the boardroom or leaders closest to frontline operations, Candace translates complex workforce challenges into practical strategies that strengthen organizational performance and the employee experience.

Most recently, Candace served as Vice President of Global Employee Experience and Culture at Flex, a $26 billion advanced manufacturing enterprise with approximately 168,000 employees across more than 30 countries. In an environment supporting customers across AI infrastructure, cloud data centers, medical devices, electric vehicles, energy systems, and other technology-intensive sectors, Candace led global people and culture strategy while reporting to the CHRO and presenting organizational insights to executive leadership and the Board. Her mandate extended well beyond traditional employee engagement. Candace approached culture as an operating and performance system, integrating employee listening, design thinking, sentiment analytics, predictive workforce insights, leadership behaviors, and enterprise action planning to help the organization understand and strengthen the conditions under which its global workforce performed.

Candace’s work at Flex demonstrated the measurable business value of that philosophy. She architected a global culture transformation that contributed to a seven-point increase in engagement over two years, alongside correlated improvements in retention and site-level productivity. Candace led enterprise-wide culture and change initiatives spanning manufacturing and corporate populations, developed AI-enabled manager capability programs across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and oversaw the Global Voice Survey for the company’s worldwide workforce. By combining attrition modeling, leadership diagnostics, employee sentiment, and operational insights, Candace helped leaders identify where targeted interventions could improve organizational health. She also strengthened global employee resource groups through analytics and impact measurement, ensuring inclusion efforts remained connected to broader culture and business priorities.

Before Flex, Candace served as Vice President and Head of Talent for Comcast’s Northeast Division, where she was responsible for talent acquisition, talent management, and HR operations across a complex workforce encompassing field operations, retail, call centers, and regional leadership. As a member of the division’s HR Executive Leadership Team, Candace introduced data-driven approaches to internal mobility, workforce capability, succession, and leadership development. Project Moonlight, a skills-intelligence and talent-matching initiative, helped accelerate onboarding and strengthen retail productivity, while her Fast Five talent strategy streamlined hiring for competitive roles. Candace also developed a $4 million wage strategy recommendation that helped reduce retail turnover from 50 percent to 34 percent and expanded the use of technology-enabled executive development and talent assessment. Throughout this work, she demonstrated a consistent ability to connect workforce investments directly with operational outcomes.

Candace’s career in life sciences further shaped her expertise in organizational transformation and executive talent. At Spark Therapeutics, she served as the HR business partner leading support for Commercial Sales during a pivotal period for the gene therapy company. Candace designed a commercial talent strategy spanning succession, mobility, capability mapping, and diversity, equity, and inclusion while supporting organizational design for integration with Roche and preparations for future product launches. The experience reinforced a principle that has followed Candace throughout her career: the human dimensions of transformation must be deliberately designed alongside commercial and operational priorities if organizations expect change to endure.

At Merck, Candace’s influence expanded deeply into executive leadership development and global succession. As Head of Executive Leadership Programs and Global Executive Talent Management, she helped build systems used to identify, assess, develop, and advance future senior leaders across a global enterprise of approximately 70,000 employees. Candace designed an intensive six-month executive development experience taught by Board members, with outcomes that included senior executive promotions, the creation of an innovation hub, and a clinical-trial partnership with Johns Hopkins. She also developed Merck’s first Diverse Leadership Program, advanced a global gender-diversity strategy, led succession and talent reviews for the organization’s top 200 leaders, and used assessments and coaching to strengthen the executive pipeline. Her work received multiple Brandon Hall Gold Awards as well as internal recognition for excellence, achievement, and new ways of working.

Candace’s earlier leadership assignments established the breadth that now distinguishes her as an enterprise advisor. At Genpact Pharmalink, she led global HR and talent strategy across the United States, United Kingdom, and India, developing scalable approaches to onboarding, performance, and career development. At QVC, Candace partnered with senior executives supporting global corporate functions while leading HR business partners across multiple countries and strengthening talent review, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness. At Endo Pharmaceuticals, she built the company’s first Accelerated Leadership Development Program for high-potential talent, supported a new business model, implemented Workday Talent Management, and led culture integration associated with acquisitions. Earlier at Pfizer, formerly Wyeth, Candace partnered with senior executives across R&D and global supply chain organizations on organizational design, workforce restructuring, change leadership, talent strategy, and inclusion initiatives across global sites.

That progression—from organizational development and HR business partnering through talent management, executive development, enterprise culture, and global workforce transformation—has given Candace a comprehensive perspective on how organizations change. Her expertise encompasses workforce transformation, organizational effectiveness, culture strategy, executive leadership development, succession planning, organizational design, M&A integration, employee experience, change leadership, executive coaching, talent analytics, and board advisory. Rather than viewing these disciplines as separate HR specialties, Candace connects them into an integrated architecture designed to help organizations execute strategy through people.

A defining characteristic of Candace’s leadership is her ability to operate comfortably across organizational levels, cultures, geographies, and industries. She understands the realities of frontline manufacturing and field operations while possessing the executive fluency required to advise CHROs, CEOs, executive leadership teams, and boards. Her experience across advanced manufacturing, technology-enabled infrastructure, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare, and consumer businesses has reinforced an important lesson: successful transformation rarely depends on technology or organizational structure alone. It also depends on whether leaders create clarity, employees trust the direction, talent systems reinforce desired behaviors, and organizational culture enables people to execute effectively through periods of uncertainty and change.

Today, Candace is particularly focused on workforce challenges emerging at the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and mergers and acquisitions. As companies invest aggressively in AI and new operating capabilities, Candace believes organizations must bring comparable discipline to leadership readiness, workforce capability, organizational trust, and cultural adaptability. Her experience gives her a distinctive perspective on this challenge. She has led people strategies in organizations responsible for producing sophisticated technology, commercializing scientific breakthroughs, serving large customer populations, integrating acquisitions, and developing future generations of enterprise leadership. Across these environments, Candace has seen that transformation becomes sustainable when people understand what is changing, why it matters, and how they contribute to what comes next.

Candace’s academic and professional development reflects the same combination of human insight and business discipline that characterizes her career. She earned a Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree from Thomas Jefferson University. Candace is certified in Hogan Assessments and has completed executive coaching development through Rutgers University, along with Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt and DDI Targeted Selection training. Her professional and community affiliations include CHIEF, SHRM, the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Synergy Nonprofit Organization. These connections reflect a professional identity grounded not only in enterprise performance but also in leadership development, service, mentorship, and community.

Ultimately, Candace’s career represents a model of people leadership in which culture is neither a slogan nor a stand-alone initiative. It is an organizational capability that can be understood, designed, measured, and strengthened. Her work has consistently centered on creating environments where leadership expectations are clear, talent can move and grow, employees have a meaningful voice, and organizations possess the human capacity to execute ambitious strategies. As technological change continues to reshape industries and the nature of work itself, Candace brings the global perspective, operational understanding, and organizational expertise required to help enterprises transform while keeping people at the center of performance and progress.
