Yvan Morissette: Creating Lasting Impact by Elevating People, Performance, and Purpose

Published on:

Yvan Morissette is a seasoned transformation leader whose four-decade career reflects an uncommon blend of technical mastery, human-centered leadership, and global operational expertise. His professional journey began in the engineering and maintenance functions of major industrial operations, where he quickly distinguished himself through an ability to diagnose complex systemic issues and galvanize teams toward meaningful improvement. Over time, this aptitude evolved into a full-fledged career dedicated to reshaping how organizations think, operate, and deliver value. Today, Yvan is recognized as an influential catalyst for change—an executive whose hallmark is not only improved metrics, but the sustained elevation of people and culture.

From the earliest years of his career, Yvan displayed both an engineer’s precision and a coach’s curiosity. His formative work across Saguenay, Shawinigan, and Laterrière allowed him to understand industrial operations from the ground up, mastering planning, scheduling, warehousing, maintenance methodologies, and contractor oversight. His exposure to varied environments did more than deepen his technical competence; it instilled a lifelong appreciation for the individuals who make complex systems function. This people-first orientation would later become central to his leadership philosophy and the many transformation programs he would guide across continents.

Yvan’s transition into international operational leadership began in Guinea, where he served as Maintenance Management Consultant and Manager for the Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée. In this challenging context, he implemented a comprehensive maintenance management program across the mine, railway, plant, and harbor operations. His work increased equipment reliability by 24 percent and significantly improved the service level of critical spare parts—an achievement that earned executive backing for a multi-year improvement roadmap. His ability to lead multicultural teams, develop local talent, and build trust with stakeholders revealed the global mindset that would characterize much of his later influence.

Upon returning to Canada, Yvan joined Alcan’s Kitimat operations, where he took on leadership of maintenance functions and, notably, became the site’s first Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Here he demonstrated his capacity to merge operational rigor with performance innovation, reorganizing teams to increase production uptime, advancing 5S implementation across departments, and championing continuous improvement initiatives that trained and empowered more than fifty employees. His success underscored his belief that sustainable performance arises from structured processes—but even more from engaged, capable, and aligned people.

Yvan’s leadership took on even broader scope when he moved to Europe as Director of Continuous Improvement for the EMEA region. Working across France, the Netherlands, and Cameroon, he strengthened the continuous improvement culture within an organization of four thousand employees. He developed standardized structures for coaching, project selection, and governance, while achieving exceptional EBITDA impact. His pioneering work in value stream mapping across the entirety of the European supply chain provided the business with unprecedented visibility and spurred initiatives representing tens of millions in performance gains. In these years, Yvan cemented his reputation as a transformation architect capable of redesigning systems at scale.

Returning to Canada, he assumed key strategic leadership roles during Rio Tinto’s acquisition of Alcan. As Director of Business Improvement and Planning, he shaped the development of enterprise strategies, annual plans, and executive communication frameworks that aligned more than 24,000 employees globally. He helped organizations navigate periods of major transition by applying the Hoshin Kanri approach, simplifying budget processes, and improving clarity between organizational intentions and operational realities. His contributions were recognized with internal distinction and, more importantly, with the enduring adoption of processes that enhanced cross-functional coherence.

In one of the most critical assignments of his career, Yvan served as Transition Manager in Ghana following a fatal mine accident and the impending sale of the operation. During a period marked by uncertainty, cultural sensitivity, and operational risk, he guided the organization toward stability by strengthening safety practices, increasing production, and establishing communication channels that unified employees, union leaders, governments, and local communities. His ability to bring order to complexity, calm to crisis, and dignity to difficult transitions illustrates the depth of character that underpins his leadership.

Yvan’s impact continued at the enterprise level when he was appointed Director of the Program Integration Management Office (PiMO), where he structured the governance, risk management, KPI systems, and resource frameworks for a $250 million program deploying SAP systems across several global regions. His work ensured financial accuracy, strengthened organizational readiness, and brought cohesiveness to one of the company’s largest transformation initiatives. Through this experience, he demonstrated the strategic discipline and integrative thinking required to guide organizations through technological and structural evolution.

Parallel to his corporate career, Yvan embraced entrepreneurship and partnership through ACPE Inc., YM Consulting Management, and MSP+, where he continues to coach leaders, advise organizations, and drive performance transformation across industries. His clients benefit not only from his technical fluency in Lean, Six Sigma, and operational excellence, but from the wisdom and empathy shaped by decades of guiding teams through change. Whether working with multinational corporations or supporting nonprofit governance—as he does through roles with the Mouvement québécois de la qualité—Yvan remains committed to enriching the organizations and communities he serves.

Throughout his career, travel has been both a necessity and a passion for Yvan. His experiences in North America, Europe and Africa have broadened his worldview and reinforced his belief that excellence is universal, but its expression must be culturally grounded. Fluent in English and French, he continues to mentor leaders across borders and industries, helping them build stronger organizations through clarity, intention, and disciplined execution.

Today, Yvan Morissette stands as a respected executive, advisor, and coach whose work is defined by long-term value creation and an unshakable commitment to people. His legacy is not only found in operational metrics, but in the leaders he has shaped, the cultures he has strengthened, and the organizations he has transformed from within.
