“Achieve strategic direction and consensus while ensuring integrity and collaboration”
For more than four decades, Wendy Stone has built an exceptional career centered on helping organizations strengthen their people strategies, improve healthcare outcomes, and develop sustainable business solutions that create lasting value. Throughout her professional journey, she has become recognized as a trusted executive advisor, accomplished human resources strategist, and healthcare benefits leader who consistently bridges business objectives with employee wellbeing. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in integrity, respect, and collaboration, enabling organizations to navigate complex challenges while building stronger, healthier workplaces.
Wendy’s career reflects an uncommon combination of strategic business acumen and deep expertise in health and welfare consulting. She has spent the majority of her career advising executive leadership teams at some of the world’s largest organizations, helping employers make informed decisions regarding employee benefits, healthcare delivery, total rewards, compensation strategies, retirement planning, and organizational performance. Her ability to translate complex healthcare and human resource challenges into practical business strategies has earned her the confidence of C-suite executives across numerous industries.
Most recently, Wendy served as Managing Director for Willis Towers Watson (WTW), where she was a member of the firm’s leadership team and played a significant role in developing the organization’s presence throughout Central Virginia. In this capacity, she partnered directly with executive leadership teams to shape comprehensive human capital strategies that improved employee attraction, engagement, retention, and organizational performance. She also led multidisciplinary consulting teams, managed key client relationships, expanded market growth, and mentored the next generation of consultants, demonstrating that effective leadership extends beyond business results to developing future leaders.
Before joining WTW, Wendy enjoyed an accomplished fifteen-year career with Mercer, where she advanced through increasingly influential leadership positions including Senior Principal Consultant, National Client Solutions Leader, Central Market Health & Benefits International Leader, Market Leader, and Vice President. During her tenure, she became nationally recognized as one of Mercer’s top producers while leading complex consulting engagements for employers spanning healthcare, technology, engineering, higher education, mining, manufacturing, and global organizations. Her work focused on helping organizations develop innovative health and benefits strategies while balancing financial stewardship with employee wellbeing.
As one of only a select group of National Client Solutions Leaders within Mercer, Wendy provided strategic leadership across multiple regional offices, supporting consultants and office leaders in revenue growth, innovation, best practices, consultant development, and client engagement. She became known for her ability to unite cross-functional teams, identify emerging market opportunities, and create customized solutions that addressed both immediate business needs and long-term organizational objectives. Her expertise in healthcare delivery, value-based care, health management, wellness initiatives, and total rewards positioned her as a trusted advisor for organizations navigating rapidly evolving healthcare environments.
Earlier in her career, Wendy developed a strong operational foundation through leadership roles with Marsh, Travelers Insurance, United HealthCare, Physicians Health Plan, Employee Benefit Services, Tampa General Hospital, the American Red Cross, and the Hillsborough Coalition for Health. These diverse experiences provided valuable insight into healthcare administration, insurance operations, project management, product development, client services, and community health education. The breadth of her experience allows her to evaluate organizational challenges from multiple perspectives while balancing financial performance, operational excellence, and employee experience.
Education has played a significant role in Wendy’s professional development. She earned a Master of Public Health in Management and Health Policy from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education from Florida State University, where she graduated on the Dean’s List. This academic foundation has supported a career dedicated to improving healthcare delivery systems while helping organizations align strategic objectives with healthier, more productive workforces.
Beyond her executive accomplishments, Wendy has consistently invested in leadership development and community service. She has completed both WTW’s Women’s Leadership Program and Mercer’s Helping Leaders Succeed executive development program while serving as a coach for Mercer’s Consulting School. She has also presented at numerous internal and external seminars focused on employee benefits, healthcare strategy, and organizational development, sharing practical insights gained through decades of executive consulting experience. Her commitment to mentoring extends beyond the workplace, where she has coached colleagues, mentored at-risk youth, and supported international college students in achieving their educational and professional goals.
Board leadership has become an increasingly meaningful part of Wendy’s professional journey. She currently serves on the Board of MedRVA Healthcare and has previously contributed as a board member for the Virginia Business Leaders Network, Dress for Success of Central Virginia, and the Shady Grove YMCA. She also maintains long-standing involvement with the Junior League of Richmond and several community organizations dedicated to leadership development, volunteerism, and community improvement. These experiences have strengthened her understanding of governance, fiduciary responsibility, strategic oversight, and nonprofit leadership while reinforcing her passion for creating positive organizational impact.
Today, Wendy is actively seeking additional board opportunities where she can leverage her extensive executive experience to help organizations navigate growth, strengthen governance, and improve strategic decision-making. She is particularly interested in healthcare, manufacturing, technology, insurance, and financial services organizations where her decades of expertise in strategic planning, healthcare delivery, human capital management, financial analysis, and executive consulting can provide measurable value. Her collaborative leadership style, practical business insight, and unwavering commitment to integrity make her an exceptional advisor for boards seeking experienced leaders capable of balancing innovation with sound governance.
Throughout every stage of her distinguished career, Wendy has remained committed to helping organizations become stronger by investing in their people, aligning strategy with execution, and fostering cultures built on trust, accountability, and respect. Her legacy is defined not only by sustained business success and client relationships but also by the leaders she has mentored, the communities she has served, and the organizations she has helped transform. As she continues her leadership journey through board service, Wendy brings an extraordinary combination of executive experience, healthcare expertise, strategic vision, and genuine dedication to improving organizations and the lives of the people they serve.
