Russell Kahan is a transformative product executive, technology strategist, and business builder whose career spans more than three decades across telecommunications, cloud software, unified communications, SaaS, artificial intelligence, and enterprise collaboration technologies. Throughout his professional journey, Russell has established himself as a leader capable of combining deep technical expertise with strong business execution, helping organizations navigate market shifts, scale emerging technologies, and achieve sustainable growth. His experience ranges from Fortune 500 enterprises to venture backed startups, where he has consistently demonstrated the ability to turn ambitious ideas into commercially successful products and thriving businesses.

Currently serving as Principal Product Manager for Twilio’s Enterprise Programmable Voice and AI driven automation offerings, Russell plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of intelligent customer interactions. His work focuses on speech recognition, conversational AI, virtual agents, enterprise voice technologies, and programmable communications platforms that integrate with leading technologies from Microsoft, Google, and generative AI ecosystems. Russell has been instrumental in helping Twilio expand its enterprise voice capabilities, positioning the company at the forefront of AI enabled communications and customer engagement solutions.

One of Russell’s most significant accomplishments at Twilio has been the successful turnaround of the company’s speech recognition business. Faced with slowing performance in a highly competitive market, he created and drove the development of Twilio’s patent pending Intelligent STT Provider Routing and Failover technology, a platform level innovation now leveraged across Twilio’s speech recognition and transcription applications. The solution dramatically improved reliability while requiring minimal engineering investment. Under his leadership, the business reversed its decline and achieved more than 20 percent year over year growth, ultimately growing into a business with an annual revenue run rate exceeding $13 million. His ability to identify operational inefficiencies, implement strategic innovation, and rapidly execute measurable improvements has become a hallmark of his leadership style.

In addition to revitalizing existing business lines, Russell successfully led the launch and commercialization of Twilio’s Real Time Transcriptions platform. The product quickly scaled from concept to more than 500 enterprise and independent software vendor customers, generating a multimillion dollar recurring revenue stream while sustaining double digit monthly growth. Russell’s leadership extended far beyond product development, encompassing pricing strategy, go to market planning, channel development, customer journey optimization, and strategic partnerships. His ability to oversee all aspects of the product management lifecycle has consistently enabled organizations to accelerate adoption and strengthen customer loyalty.

Prior to Twilio, Russell spent nearly five years at Dolby Laboratories, where he served as Senior Product Manager for Dolby Voice and Dolby.io communication platforms. In this role, he led initiatives focused on high quality audio collaboration, cloud communications, real time interactivity, and immersive user experiences for enterprise and developer markets. Russell worked closely with global conferencing providers and enterprise customers to bring Dolby’s renowned audio innovation into the rapidly evolving world of cloud collaboration. His efforts helped position Dolby as a differentiated player in the enterprise communications market by emphasizing exceptional audio quality, low latency interactivity, and scalable cloud based communications solutions.

At Dolby, Russell also pioneered deployments into the rapidly expanding video conferencing and collaboration software markets, helping establish partnerships with organizations including BlueJeans, Verizon, BT, PGi, and LogMeIn. His leadership contributed to major improvements in customer satisfaction, quality scores, and adoption rates among enterprise customers. He also guided the development of patent pending AI based audio enhancement technologies, including advanced noise reduction and echo mitigation systems designed to improve clarity and user experience in distributed and hybrid work environments. His ability to merge customer insight with technical innovation enabled Dolby to expand its presence within the enterprise communications ecosystem.

Russell’s entrepreneurial spirit is exemplified through his work as Founder and CEO of MySpecialChildGuide.com, a mission driven startup focused on helping families of children with special needs. Inspired by personal experience and a desire to make a meaningful social impact, he created a cloud based platform that enabled parents to manage Individualized Education Programs, coordinate care teams, and track developmental progress across devices. The platform incorporated collaboration tools, notifications, progress management systems, and long term AI and machine learning aspirations designed to help improve educational outcomes for children with special needs.

Before launching his entrepreneurial venture, Russell spent more than a decade at Cisco Systems and WebEx, where he became recognized as a strategic leader capable of driving large scale growth initiatives and revitalizing underperforming businesses. One of his most notable achievements was rescuing Cisco’s WebEx Collaboration Meeting Rooms Hybrid product after a difficult launch period. By rebuilding the cross functional organization, refining channel strategies, streamlining operational processes, and improving deployment execution, Russell transformed the product into a global success. Under his leadership, customer adoption accelerated dramatically, global expansion efforts succeeded across multiple continents, and the product generated significant recurring revenue growth for Cisco.

Earlier in his career, Russell worked at Lucent Technologies and Bell Labs during the formative years of modern telecommunications. There, he contributed to the development of pioneering Class 5 switching platforms, Voice over DSL technologies for competitive local exchange carriers created following the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and some of the industry’s earliest softswitch architectures. This experience provided a unique front row seat to foundational innovations that helped shape the evolution of internet based communications and enterprise networking.

Outside of his executive leadership responsibilities, Russell remains deeply committed to mentorship, youth development, and community involvement. In addition to serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster, he is a NICA Level 3 certified Head Mountain Biking Coach and Team Director for a large nonprofit youth cycling organization serving students across grades six through twelve. In this leadership role, he oversees a staff of twelve volunteer coaches whom he personally recruited, developed, and certified, while also managing budgeting, succession planning, marketing, operations, and organizational governance. His work has helped create opportunities for dozens of young athletes to participate in competitive cycling while fostering leadership, teamwork, and personal growth both on and off the trail.

Throughout his career, Russell has consistently demonstrated the ability to anticipate technology shifts, identify untapped market opportunities, and transform innovative ideas into scalable businesses. His leadership style reflects a balance of analytical rigor, empathy, creativity, and accountability that enables organizations to navigate complex challenges while fostering innovation and growth.
