Nancy Parker is a highly accomplished executive leader whose distinguished career spans more than forty-five years across healthcare, mental health, social services, education, governance, and organizational leadership in both Canada and the United States. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation for leading organizations through complexity with integrity, compassion, and strategic vision. Her leadership philosophy is rooted in the belief that healthy organizational cultures create exceptional outcomes, enabling individuals, teams, and communities to thrive together. Whether guiding system-wide transformation, strengthening governance, or mentoring emerging leaders, Nancy consistently demonstrates that people-centered leadership and operational excellence are not competing priorities—they are mutually reinforcing drivers of sustainable success.
Nancy’s professional journey began in clinical practice, where she developed deep expertise in music therapy, child and family therapy, infant mental health, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and community-based behavioral health services. Working directly with children, families, and vulnerable populations provided her with an enduring understanding of the human side of leadership. As her responsibilities expanded into administration and executive management, she never lost sight of the importance of empathy, relationship-building, and service. Instead, she leveraged her clinical background to become a transformational executive capable of balancing compassionate care with strategic decision-making and organizational accountability.
Over the course of two decades with Columbia River Mental Health Services in Vancouver, Washington, Nancy progressed through multiple leadership roles before serving as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. In this capacity, she oversaw a comprehensive behavioral healthcare organization with an approximately $20 million operating budget, 250 to 300 employees, and hundreds of volunteers serving children, adults, and families across a full continuum of mental health and addiction services. Responsible to the Board of Trustees, she led strategic planning, policy development, labor relations, contract negotiations, community partnerships, and organizational growth while cultivating a collaborative culture that emphasized innovation, accountability, and exceptional client care.
Nancy’s expertise naturally expanded beyond organizational leadership into provincial policy and systems development. As Senior Policy Analyst and Provincial Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the Government of Manitoba, she helped shape youth mental health policy, governance, funding strategies, and province-wide suicide prevention initiatives. She subsequently served as Director of Crisis Services for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, where she led the development of Winnipeg’s Crisis Response Centre, integrating innovative clinical models, electronic health records, recovery-oriented care, trauma-informed practices, hospitality principles, and continuous quality improvement into one of Canada’s leading crisis response systems. These accomplishments demonstrate her unique ability to connect policy, clinical excellence, technology, and operational execution into cohesive systems that improve outcomes for individuals and communities.
Nancy continued to elevate her impact as Chief Executive Officer of Marymound, one of Manitoba’s premier youth and family service organizations. Leading an organization with approximately 375 employees and annual revenue of roughly $25 million, she guided the organization through significant cultural transformation while advancing innovative programming for vulnerable youth, addictions recovery, education, crisis stabilization, foster care, family support, and Indigenous cultural healing. Under her leadership, Marymound embraced a pioneering Two-Eyed Seeing approach that thoughtfully integrated Indigenous cultural renewal, land-based healing, and Western therapeutic practices. Simultaneously, Nancy championed Truth and Reconciliation initiatives, strengthened organizational resilience following periods of trauma, and fostered an inclusive workplace culture grounded in respect, compassion, and accountability.
Today, Nancy serves as Senior Project Lead with Réseau Compassion Network, a collaborative network supporting thirteen health, social, and human service organizations throughout Manitoba. In this role, she advances organizational culture through initiatives focused on compassion, mission integration, Truth and Reconciliation, welcoming communities, and leadership development. Working within an organization responsible for preserving the legacy of several religious congregations while addressing modern social challenges, Nancy helps organizations align deeply held values with strategic priorities, governance, and operational excellence. Her work reflects a career-long commitment to ensuring that organizational culture is not merely aspirational but becomes an active driver of performance, engagement, and meaningful community impact.
Complementing her executive leadership is Nancy’s longstanding commitment to education, governance, and professional development. She served on the faculty at Portland State University, teaching graduate students in Infant Mental Health and systems development while mentoring future leaders in interdisciplinary collaboration. Her academic preparation includes a Master’s degree in Music Therapy from Florida State University, a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Manitoba, graduate certification in Infant Mental Health from the University of Washington, Family Therapy certification, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, executive coaching, and executive leadership studies at Harvard Kennedy School focused on leadership in chaos, conflict, and courage. This multidisciplinary educational foundation enables Nancy to integrate evidence-based practice with strategic leadership and organizational transformation.
Nancy’s influence extends well beyond her executive positions through significant governance and volunteer leadership. She served for more than a decade as Chair of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention and co-chaired the Winnipeg Suicide Prevention Network while contributing to numerous healthcare, community, and public policy boards throughout Canada and the United States. She has also coordinated mental health response initiatives for the Winnipeg Folk Festival, participated in healthcare improvement collaboratives, and served on advisory boards dedicated to mental health, child welfare, and health equity. These experiences have strengthened her understanding of governance, board dynamics, stakeholder engagement, and collaborative leadership across public, nonprofit, and community sectors.
Nancy approaches every leadership opportunity through a values-based lens grounded in compassion, honor, integrity, and service. Her work consistently demonstrates that organizational culture is one of the most powerful levers for sustainable success. By combining strategic planning, governance expertise, operational leadership, risk management, and deep relational intelligence, she has repeatedly helped organizations navigate periods of significant change while preserving trust, strengthening collaboration, and improving outcomes for employees, stakeholders, and the communities they serve. Her cross-border executive experience, extensive public speaking, policy leadership, and unwavering commitment to ethical leadership make her an exceptional candidate for corporate, healthcare, nonprofit, educational, and advisory boards seeking experienced governance and transformational leadership.
