Published on:

Matthew Trowbridge is a senior commercial executive, growth strategist, and board-level advisor with more than 35 years of leadership experience spanning industrial automation, robotics, motion control, semiconductor technology, software, SaaS, automotive, food and beverage, packaging, and diversified industrial markets. Throughout his career, Matthew has built a reputation for transforming commercial organizations, developing high-performing teams, expanding global market presence, and creating measurable enterprise value. His leadership approach combines disciplined operational thinking with a deep understanding of customers, markets, technology, and the channels that connect them.

Matthew’s career has been defined by an ability to operate effectively at the intersection of strategy and execution. He has led global sales and marketing organizations, managed significant P&L responsibilities, developed direct and indirect sales models, established channel-to-market strategies, and aligned commercial organizations around clearly defined growth objectives. Whether working within a Fortune 500 corporation, a private equity-backed enterprise, or a rapidly developing technology business, Matthew brings a practical understanding of how strategy must translate into organizational structure, customer engagement, accountability, and measurable results.

Previously as Chief Commercial Officer of AGT Robotique, Matthew held responsibility for global commercial strategy encompassing sales, marketing, revenue generation, and partner development. His work built upon decades of experience in industrial automation and robotics and demonstrated his ability to position sophisticated technologies within highly competitive global markets. Matthew led direct and partner organizations, aligned marketing and demand-generation activities with revenue objectives, and supported value-creation initiatives within a private equity-owned environment. His approach to commercial leadership extends beyond generating near-term revenue to developing scalable organizations, effective market channels, and sustainable foundations for long-term growth.

Before joining AGT, Matthew served as General Manager for Yokogawa Electric’s North American semiconductor business. In this role, he helped build the regional semiconductor strategy and commercial organization, recruited and developed sales and applications engineering talent, established channel relationships, and supported the introduction of new AI-enabled semiconductor technologies. His efforts generated approximately $8 million in new qualified opportunities with prototype orders in place, demonstrating his ability to enter technically complex markets, assemble effective commercial resources, and translate emerging technologies into meaningful customer opportunities.

One of the defining chapters of Matthew’s executive career came at Filtec Corporation, a global supplier of automated inspection equipment serving major food, beverage, and packaging organizations. As Chief Commercial Officer, Matthew held global responsibility for sales, marketing, customer support, and aftermarket services. During his tenure, company revenue increased from approximately $31 million to $46 million, creating substantial additional enterprise value. He transformed the company’s global sales approach across direct, key-account, and partner channels, established multinational key-account strategies, and helped launch three new products that secured major business with customers including Pepsi, AB InBev, and Coca-Cola.

Matthew’s leadership at Filtec also extended beyond traditional sales growth. He worked across functions to strengthen the organization’s commercial infrastructure, improve the profitability of aftermarket services and parts, modernize marketing, and better align customer needs with operations and engineering. Most significantly, Matthew helped position the private equity-backed organization for a successful sale in late 2022. This experience strengthened his already extensive understanding of private equity dynamics, enterprise value creation, commercial transformation, and the operational discipline required to prepare a business for a successful transaction.

Earlier, Matthew spent more than 15 years with Omron Industrial Automation, progressing through increasingly senior sales and marketing leadership positions. His responsibilities included regional sales leadership, Vice President of Marketing, and ultimately Vice President of Sales for the Americas. Across these roles, Matthew led organizations encompassing sales, product marketing, product engineering, marketing communications, automation centers, and marketing operations. He helped reshape go-to-market models, balance direct and channel coverage, organize industry-focused sales teams, strengthen customer engagement, and connect regional commercial execution with broader global strategies.

Matthew developed an important foundation in commercial management and operational discipline during his years at General Electric. He held responsibility for an approximately $80 million P&L within GE Infrastructure Sensing and managed direct sales, distribution, and representative networks while integrating sales and service teams resulting from seven acquisitions. Within GE Motors & Controls, Matthew led strategic pricing, contracts, and commercial growth initiatives and managed a business where revenue increased approximately 30 percent while operating margin improved by five percent. His experience at GE also culminated in certification as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, reinforcing the analytical, process-oriented approach that has remained central to his leadership throughout his career.

Mergers, acquisitions, portfolio strategy, and private equity dynamics represent another significant dimension of Matthew’s executive expertise. He understands the strategic and organizational challenges associated with acquiring businesses, integrating teams, optimizing portfolios, establishing acquisition strategies, creating value, and preparing companies for successful exits. Having participated in acquisition integration at GE and later helped position a private equity-owned business for sale, Matthew can approach M&A discussions from both strategic and operating perspectives. He is particularly energized by opportunities to support startups, small and middle-market businesses, private equity-backed companies, and larger organizations seeking accelerated growth or transformation.

Matthew’s professional perspective is distinctly global. His international exposure extends throughout Latin America, South America, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Europe, Australia, Japan, China, the Philippines, and other markets. Working across these regions has given Matthew an appreciation for the cultural, operational, and commercial differences that shape successful international business development. He has developed relationships across major distribution organizations, regional distributors, representative firms, direct sales organizations, and multinational customers, giving him a broad network and practical understanding of how companies can adapt their market strategies while maintaining a coherent global vision.

Beyond corporate leadership, Matthew has consistently invested his time and experience in industry, education, community engagement, and the development of future leaders. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and on advisory boards supporting engineering and business education at Chico State University. Matthew has also contributed to internship, engineering training, corporate social responsibility, and mentorship programs, including mentoring engineering honors students at the University of Nevada, Reno. These commitments demonstrate his belief that experienced executives have a responsibility not only to create strong business outcomes but also to invest in people and communities.

Matthew is also an accomplished public speaker who has delivered keynote presentations at major conferences addressing automation, robotics, semiconductor technology, automotive applications, packaging, and food and beverage manufacturing. His speaking engagements have included the IEEE International Conference on Electro/Information Technology, SAE World Congress, SEMICON West, and industry audiences associated with PMMI. His published conference work has addressed automation collaboration across automotive, semiconductor, and Internet of Things applications, while his perspectives have also been shared through industry interviews and commentary associated with events such as the Consumer Electronics Show.

Educated at Colorado State University in Technical Journalism and Political Science, Matthew brings an uncommon combination of communications expertise, commercial experience, technical industry knowledge, and operational discipline to executive leadership. His educational background has complemented a career spent communicating with engineers, customers, executives, investors, sales professionals, and other stakeholders across complex global organizations. Combined with his Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification, this foundation enables Matthew to examine challenges analytically while communicating solutions in a clear, compelling, and actionable manner.

At this stage of his career, Matthew is particularly interested in contributing his experience to boards, advisory organizations, private equity portfolio companies, startups, and established businesses navigating pivotal periods of growth and transformation. He is motivated by the opportunity to help leadership teams identify where they can win, develop practical growth strategies, expand sales channels, evaluate acquisitions, strengthen commercial organizations, and position businesses for successful long-term outcomes or eventual exits. His experience across both global corporations and private equity-backed organizations enables him to bring a balanced perspective to strategic conversations.

Matthew believes that effective leadership ultimately comes down to people, clarity, strategy, and execution. Strong organizations require a compelling vision, a realistic understanding of the market, talented teams empowered to perform, and disciplined systems capable of turning strategy into measurable progress. Throughout his career, Matthew has demonstrated an ability to move comfortably from the boardroom to the customer meeting, from acquisition strategy to operational problem solving, and from global market planning to hands-on leadership development.
