Her professional journey is defined by a commitment to excellence, a passion for disciplined execution, and a belief that strong governance is the foundation of sustainable success.
Karen began her career in public accounting with Coopers & Lybrand and BDO Seidman, where she developed a strong technical foundation in audit and financial reporting. Early in her career, she distinguished herself through her ability to understand not just the numbers, but the business behind them. This ability to connect financial data to operational reality became a hallmark of her leadership style and set the stage for her advancement into senior leadership roles.
Her tenure at Ernst & Young (EY), where she served as a Partner and Senior Client Leader for over two decades, marked the most transformative period of her career. At EY, Karen held C-suite–equivalent responsibilities, overseeing complex client engagements spanning audit, transactions, capital markets, and finance transformation. She managed multi-million-dollar client portfolios, led cross-functional teams of up to 50 professionals, and played a pivotal role in scaling a regional office from 50 to 150 employees—demonstrating both operational acumen and a strong ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
Throughout her career, Karen has been at the forefront of major financial and strategic events. She has led and advised on numerous mergers and acquisitions, carve-outs, spin-offs, and IPOs, ensuring financial integrity and seamless execution during periods of transformation. Her expertise in capital markets, including equity and debt transactions, has made her a valuable advisor to organizations preparing for public offerings or navigating complex financing structures. Her ability to guide companies through these critical moments has earned her the trust of executives and boards alike.
Karen’s industry experience is both deep and broad, with a primary focus on real estate and hospitality, including timeshare, REITs, and large-scale development projects. In addition, she has worked extensively in transportation, telecommunications, consumer sectors, and aerospace, providing her with a well-rounded perspective across diverse business models. Her work with multinational organizations such as Verizon and Marriott has also given her valuable international exposure, including engagements across Europe.
A recognized expert in audit and financial reporting, Karen has significant experience in SOX compliance, internal controls, and governance frameworks. She has led numerous initiatives to stabilize and strengthen finance functions, particularly in times of organizational change or heightened regulatory scrutiny. Her work in finance transformation—including ERP implementations, FP&A redesign, and close acceleration—has helped organizations improve efficiency, enhance decision-making, and build more resilient financial infrastructures.
Beyond her technical capabilities, Karen is known for her ability to translate complex financial and operational issues into clear, actionable insights. She has served as a regular advisor to boards and audit committees, helping leaders understand risks, evaluate strategic options, and make informed decisions. Her communication style is grounded, practical, and focused on enabling effective governance and oversight.
Karen’s leadership extends beyond the corporate environment into meaningful board service. She has served as Board Chair, Audit Chair, and Finance Chair of the YMCA of Central Florida, where she has led governance modernization efforts, debt refinancing, asset sales, overseen financial stewardship, and supported executive transitions. She also serves on the boards of Stetson University’s School of Business and Accounting programs, as well as the Boone High School Athletic Association where she currently serves as Treasurer, demonstrating her commitment to education and community impact.
Her dedication to leadership development and inclusion has been a consistent theme throughout her career. At EY, she was actively involved in recruiting, mentoring, and sponsoring talent, as well as leading initiatives within the Professional Women’s Network. She has also participated in and led numerous speaking engagements, panels, and conferences, often focusing on real estate, finance, and diversity and inclusion topics.
Karen’s decision to retire from public accounting was a purposeful one, driven by a desire to transition into roles where she could continue to contribute at a strategic level while also prioritizing family.
