Floyd Alcorn: Transforming Organizations through Disciplined Leadership, Purposeful Innovation, and a Commitment to Making a Positive Difference

Published on:

Floyd Alcorn II is a seasoned technology executive, independent board and advisory leader, and transformation strategist whose career spans more than three decades of leadership across technology, telecommunications, automotive finance, and financial services. Known for bringing clarity and momentum to complex organizations, Floyd has built his career at the intersection of technology, business strategy, operational execution, and people leadership. From modernizing enterprise platforms and turning around underperforming organizations to developing high-performing teams and guiding multimillion-dollar technology portfolios, he has consistently focused on creating sustainable business value while strengthening the people and organizations responsible for delivering it.

Most recently, Floyd served as Assistant Vice President of Product & Engineering for NextGear Capital, a Cox Automotive company, where he led the full product and engineering lifecycle for the organization’s floorplan-financing technology platform. His responsibilities encompassed vision, strategy, delivery, modernization, and adoption, with a focus on strengthening the connection between business priorities and technology execution. Under his leadership, the organization advanced its migration of legacy platforms to the cloud, expanded its use of Salesforce to support customer-centric delivery, and transformed its data foundation through Snowflake to enable advanced analytics and AI-ready capabilities. His work contributed to an environment of disciplined execution and business-technology alignment during a period that included two of the most profitable years in the company’s history.

One of Floyd’s signature accomplishments at NextGear Capital was leading a digital-audit transformation designed to fundamentally improve the company’s approach to risk management and the dealer experience. The initiative replaced reliance on third-party auditors with a suite of internally developed solutions, including mobile self-audit functionality, creating opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance the customer experience. Floyd oversaw the preparation and submission of the organization’s application for TechPoint’s 2025 Mira Award for Digital Transformation of the Year, which NextGear Capital won from a competitive field of 221 statewide entrants. The recognition reflected an approach to innovation that has characterized Floyd’s career: technology should not exist for its own sake, but should solve meaningful business problems and create measurable value.

Before joining NextGear Capital, Floyd spent more than a decade in executive leadership roles with Cox Communications, where he was repeatedly entrusted with large-scale transformations and challenging organizational assignments. As Executive Director of Business Support Systems and technology leader for the enterprise Network Fulfillment transformation, he worked across Construction, Engineering, Supply Chain, Service Assurance, and Finance. The program supported approximately 2,000 users, encompassed more than 2,500 completed initiatives, and streamlined, automated, or validated 164 processes. The work also helped reclaim $12.3 million in reusable material and established asset-tracking capabilities spanning approximately $3 billion in assets and more than 150,000 items. These outcomes demonstrate Floyd’s ability to connect technology strategy with operational discipline, financial stewardship, and enterprise-wide execution.

Floyd’s reputation as a turnaround leader was also reinforced during his earlier Cox assignments. He assumed leadership of an approximately 125-person wireless technology organization that required improvements in morale, execution, and performance, ultimately helping the organization exceed customer-acquisition targets by more than 20 percent. In another assignment, he inherited a multimillion-dollar call-center technology program that was two years behind schedule and drove it through deployment within nine months. He also introduced an automated customer-service troubleshooting platform that developed into a core capability and was generating approximately $5 million in annual savings by 2018. Across these roles, Floyd became known for entering complex situations, establishing accountability and structure, rebuilding confidence, and converting strategic objectives into executable plans.

Earlier in his career, Floyd held executive positions with Cingular Wireless, now part of AT&T, where his responsibilities included Business Market Group systems, enterprise billing, and billing and customer-care technology. He directed organizations and development ecosystems ranging into the hundreds while overseeing mission-critical platforms supporting rapidly evolving telecommunications businesses. Among his achievements, he led technology initiatives that reduced customer-service costs by 11 percent, helped consolidate complex billing environments, implemented an enhancement that saved $6 million in clearinghouse charges, and oversaw an internal billing-record clearing application that produced approximately $2 million in annual savings. His experience navigating large-scale mergers, integrations, platform consolidations, and organizational change established a foundation that would remain central throughout his executive career.

Floyd also brought his industry knowledge to Cognizant Technology Solutions, where he helped develop and grow the company’s wireless-industry business. His responsibilities extended from industry and competitive analysis to opportunity assessment, strategic partnerships, offering development, executive presentations, and delivery oversight. He developed a comprehensive wireless-market strategy, helped create a new mobile managed-services offering, established industry partnerships, and contributed to growth of the wireless business from approximately $1 million in 2007 to nearly $7 million by 2010. Earlier leadership roles with AirTouch Cellular and Verizon Wireless further strengthened his expertise in enterprise technology, billing and customer care, operations, systems consolidation, and post-merger integration. His historical record includes helping define a strategy to consolidate eight billing systems into two and leading organizations responsible for highly available, mission-critical technology environments.

Beyond corporate leadership, Floyd brings governance experience and a commitment to developing the next generation of technology talent. He served on the board of TechPoint Youth from 2023 through 2025 and joined its executive board in 2025, supporting efforts to strengthen Indiana’s pipeline of STEM and early-career technology talent. Following retirement and relocation to the Atlanta area, he concluded that board service while continuing to pursue opportunities to contribute his experience to organizations where technology, leadership, operational excellence, and responsible growth matter. His board interests include technology-driven private and PE-backed businesses as well as mission-driven nonprofit organizations, particularly those focused on youth, STEM education, and workforce development.

Floyd’s leadership foundation began well before his corporate career. He served in the United States Navy as a Naval Flight Officer and Electronic Countermeasures Officer aboard the EA-6B Prowler, ultimately attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His assignments included service as a Flag Electronic Warfare Officer, Training and Operations Officer, and Assistant Professor of Naval Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The experience of operating in high-stakes environments where preparation, accountability, teamwork, and sound judgment were essential helped shape a leadership philosophy he carried into the private sector: establish clear objectives, respect the people doing the work, remain steady under pressure, and accept responsibility for outcomes.

Academically, Floyd combines technical training with strategic management and executive development. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Principia College and a Master of Science in Strategic Management from Georgia State University. His executive education includes the Advanced Management Program at Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Cable Executive Management Program through CTAM at Harvard Business School. This combination of analytical training, strategic education, operational experience, and decades of executive leadership enables him to engage comfortably with both the technical details of transformation and the broader business, financial, governance, and organizational implications surrounding it.

Today, Floyd’s expertise encompasses digital and technology transformation, product and engineering strategy, organizational turnarounds, M&A integration and systems consolidation, cloud and data modernization, AI readiness, operational improvement, financial oversight, risk and process controls, talent development, and succession. Yet his professional identity extends beyond the scale of the organizations he has led or the financial outcomes his teams have achieved. He describes his leadership approach as disciplined, pragmatic, and people-centered, grounded in high standards, clear accountability, integrity, and respect. Having spent decades being called upon to make a difference in challenging environments, Floyd now brings that experience to board and advisory opportunities where thoughtful governance, responsible innovation, strong leadership, and measurable impact can help organizations build enduring value.
