With more than 45 years of executive leadership experience in the hospitality and food and beverage industries, Douglas Robinson has built an exceptional career transforming hotel operations, driving revenue growth, and developing high-performing teams. His professional journey reflects a rare balance of operational discipline, sales and marketing expertise, financial stewardship, and community-focused leadership. Throughout his career, Doug has consistently demonstrated an ability to revitalize underperforming organizations, strengthen customer relationships, and position businesses for long-term profitability. His passion for mentoring future leaders and improving organizational performance makes him an outstanding candidate for corporate boards and advisory roles.
Doug’s career began with The Sheraton Corporation, where he completed the company’s Corporate Management Training Program before spending over fifteen years serving in progressively responsible management positions across multiple hotel properties in Boston, Hartford, Billings, and Houston. These formative years provided him with extensive experience in hotel operations, guest services, food and beverage management, financial controls, and team leadership while exposing him to the operational standards of one of the world’s most respected hospitality brands. The experience established the operational foundation that would define his leadership style throughout his career.
As his career advanced, Doug assumed General Manager and regional leadership positions with organizations including Days Inn, Holiday Inn, Brookshire Hotels, The Finch Group, Magna Hospitality, and the Best Western Lord Wakefield. In every role, he accepted the challenge of improving operational performance while creating exceptional guest experiences. One of his most notable accomplishments came when he successfully repositioned a struggling hotel operation in New London, Connecticut, restoring positive cash flow in less than one year and ultimately contributing to the property’s profitable acquisition by investors representing Mohegan Sun Casino. His ability to diagnose operational challenges, implement strategic improvements, and execute measurable financial turnarounds became a defining characteristic of his executive career.
Doug also distinguished himself as an accomplished sales and marketing executive. As Director of Sales and Marketing for Park Lodge Hotel Group, he developed and executed comprehensive revenue-generation strategies for a three-property, 390-room hotel portfolio in the Greater Boston area. By implementing aggressive market positioning, strengthening customer relationships, and leading highly effective sales teams, he helped reposition the company as a market leader while achieving record occupancy levels and increasing market share. His unique ability to bridge operations with sales and marketing has allowed him to consistently align organizational strategy with financial performance, ensuring sustainable growth without compromising service quality.
His expertise extends well beyond hotel operations into food service, catering, and event management. Doug founded and operated Hospitality Works Inc., a successful full-service catering business serving events ranging from intimate gatherings to functions of more than 300 guests. Later, as owner of Lasting Impressions and Musical Impressions, he successfully combined entrepreneurship, entertainment, and education by providing professional musical performances and personalized piano instruction throughout New England. These ventures demonstrate his entrepreneurial mindset, customer-first philosophy, and ability to build businesses centered on exceptional client experiences while maintaining operational efficiency and financial accountability.
Throughout his leadership career, Doug has been recognized for building strong organizational cultures through employee development and mentorship. He has designed comprehensive training programs that empower employees to reach their highest potential while creating collaborative environments focused on accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement. His experience managing both large and small hospitality operations has provided him with extensive knowledge in human resources, budgeting, strategic planning, financial management, sales leadership, food and beverage operations, hotel acquisitions, mergers and acquisitions integration, and organizational restructuring. He understands that long-term business success begins with investing in people and creating cultures where employees thrive.
Doug’s commitment to community leadership is equally impressive. He has served on the Waltham YMCA Board of Directors, where he chaired the organization’s annual golf tournament and increased fundraising by more than fifty percent during consecutive years. As a longtime Board of Governors member for the Needham Golf Club, including serving as Food Service and Entertainment Chairman, he helped oversee significant organizational initiatives, including planning and supporting the construction of a new clubhouse. He has also served as a Church Officer and Elder for Needham Presbyterian Church, volunteered extensively with youth sports organizations and community events, and managed the successful grassroots political campaign for Massachusetts State Representative Denise Garlick. These leadership experiences have strengthened his governance skills while reinforcing his belief in servant leadership and community engagement.
Doug’s professional accomplishments are complemented by his lifelong passion for music. He spent four years at Berklee College of Music, and has remained actively involved in music throughout his career as an educator, performer, composer, and entrepreneur. He previously served as organist for the Hartford Whalers NHL Hockey Club, including performing during the 1985 NHL All-Star Game. Today, he continues teaching private and group piano lessons while entertaining audiences throughout New England and Canada. His musical background has strengthened his creativity, discipline, communication abilities, and appreciation for collaboration—qualities that continue to influence his executive leadership style.
Having spent decades leading hotel operations, directing sales and marketing organizations, overseeing financial performance, managing food and beverage operations, and building successful entrepreneurial ventures, Doug brings an exceptionally broad business perspective to every leadership opportunity. He is particularly passionate about helping organizations evaluate their strategic direction, improve operational efficiency, strengthen organizational culture, and position themselves for sustainable growth. His willingness to return to active business leadership through board service reflects a genuine desire to share decades of practical experience with organizations navigating growth, transformation, acquisitions, or operational change.
Doug is particularly interested in serving organizations within the hospitality, hotels, resorts, food and beverage, catering, travel, tourism, and customer experience sectors, although his operational leadership, financial management expertise, governance experience, and people-first philosophy are highly transferable across numerous industries. He is comfortable working with companies of any size and is open to both advisory board and corporate board opportunities. His experience overseeing complex operations, managing change, improving profitability, and developing future leaders positions him as a valuable strategic advisor capable of helping organizations achieve both operational excellence and long-term success.
