David H. Scott, AACI, BBM – Experienced Real Estate and Financial Services Executive

    David H. Scott is a seasoned executive with extensive expertise in real estate appraisal, financial services, and commercial mortgage brokerage. With a career spanning over four decades, David has made significant contributions to the industry through various high-level roles and entrepreneurial ventures.

    David’s current role is as a Board Member and Credit Committee member for Terrapin Mortgage Investment Corp., a well-established Mortgage Investment Corporation (MIC) based in Vancouver, BC. He has held this position since September 2021, where he leverages his deep industry knowledge to provide strategic oversight and guidance.

    In April 2016, David co-founded CHS Realty Advisors Inc., a real estate appraisal firm with a robust presence in Toronto, Brantford, Hamilton, and Niagara Falls. Under his leadership, CHS has grown to include ten professional appraisers, offering comprehensive residential and commercial valuation services. Their esteemed client base comprises chartered banks, life insurance companies, REITs, private developers, and appraisal management companies, reflecting the firm’s industry reputation and David’s commitment to excellence.

    Previously, David established RNF Financial Inc., a mortgage brokerage where he served as the principal and sole employee. Although RNF was closed in 2022, David remains licensed with Icon Capital Finance Corp.

    From July 2010 to April 2016, David played a pivotal role at Avison Young Commercial Real Estate (Ontario) Inc., where he was instrumental in establishing a Mortgage Brokerage division. As the Principal Broker for Ontario he oversaw significant operations and facilitated numerous high-value transactions.

    David’s career also includes a notable tenure at Penmor Mortgage Capital Corporation (now CMLS Financial) from July 2006 to July 2010. He successfully opened the Toronto office, operating both as a lender and mortgage broker, managing a dedicated source of funds, and handling complex transactions that did not meet traditional investor requirements.

    His earlier roles at CIBC Mortgages Inc. from November 2001 to July 2006 included managing national accounts, sourcing and maintaining relationships with major real estate developers, underwriting loans, and obtaining approvals from the bank’s risk management group. He was promoted to Manager National Accounts in April 2003 due to his outstanding performance.

    David’s career foundations were built at prestigious organizations such as The Imperial Life Assurance Company (Opvest Inc.), where he served as Senior Account Manager and later as Senior Asset Manager for Real Estate Investments, and The Altus Group/Fish Marks Jenkins, where he completed industrial appraisal reports. At London Life Insurance Company and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, he held senior roles in commercial real estate lending and national mortgage underwriting, further honing his skills in financial analysis and portfolio management.

    David’s professional journey began at The National Trust Company, where he managed mortgage loans. Then at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce as a Junior Appraiser and later as an Appraiser.

    David holds a Bachelor of Business Management from Ryerson University, now known as The Toronto Metropolitan University. Then completed in 1982, and a diploma in Urban Land Economics with a major in Real Estate Appraisal and Investment Analysis from the University of British Columbia. He has pursued continuing education in accounting, managerial finance, and real property law, among other areas, to stay abreast of industry developments.

    A committed professional, David is a designated AACI P. App. from the Appraisal Institute of Canada. His contributions extend beyond his professional career as he actively participates in various industry associations and remains dedicated to advancing the field of real estate appraisal and investment.
