“Easy as I can be and as hard as I needs to be.”
Anthony Cox is an accomplished healthcare executive with more than three decades of leadership experience spanning healthcare operations, support services, organizational transformation, financial stewardship, workforce leadership, and military nuclear operations. Throughout his career, he has successfully led complex organizations through periods of growth, change, and operational improvement while maintaining a steadfast focus on people, accountability, service, and results. He is known for combining strategic thinking with disciplined execution and for building high-performing teams that deliver sustainable outcomes. His leadership philosophy is captured by a principle that has guided him throughout his career: “Easy as he can be and as hard as he needs to be.”
Anthony currently serves as a Support Services Executive for HCA Healthcare’s Capital Division, providing executive leadership and strategic oversight for support service operations across a complex, multi-market healthcare enterprise. Throughout his tenure, he has led initiatives impacting approximately 100 leaders and more than 1,000 colleagues while helping oversee operating budgets in excess of $100 million and managed contract portfolios exceeding $30 million. His areas of leadership have included environmental services, food and nutrition services, contract management, regulatory readiness, safety, operational excellence, and other mission-critical support functions that directly influence organizational performance, patient experience, and financial stewardship.
Throughout his career, Anthony has led large-scale operational, workforce, and organizational transformation initiatives that have delivered measurable financial, operational, and strategic value. Within healthcare, he successfully directed the insourcing of food service operations across 14 acute-care hospitals, transitioning patient dining, retail operations, technology platforms, and workforce structures following extensive planning and stakeholder engagement. His leadership of performance improvement, strategic sourcing, and contract optimization initiatives generated more than $8 million in annualized savings through reductions in food costs, waste management expenses, and improved contract compliance. Earlier in his career with Crothall Healthcare, Anthony was recognized as a corporate field trainer for managers, directors, and senior leaders while leading environmental services, facilities, and support operations across multiple healthcare organizations. His ability to connect operational execution, financial stewardship, workforce engagement, and service excellence has consistently resulted in sustainable organizational improvements.
Anthony’s impact has frequently extended beyond the organizations and facilities under his direct leadership. He developed and negotiated a support services program that was initially implemented across seven hospitals and later adopted at the corporate level, ultimately expanding to 186 hospitals representing more than 42,000 beds. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided leadership and subject matter expertise supporting environmental services and infection prevention strategies across 19 acute-care hospitals and approximately 4,500 licensed beds, helping organizations navigate one of the most challenging periods in modern healthcare. The foundation for his disciplined leadership approach was established during his service in the United States Navy, where he served as a Nuclear Engineer and Plant and Maintenance Supervisor responsible for the safe operation of nuclear power generation systems aboard a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier supporting approximately 5,500 personnel. He also led the training and development of more than 400 nuclear engineers and operators. These experiences have equipped Anthony with a unique combination of enterprise leadership, operational discipline, risk management expertise, financial acumen, and the ability to deliver results in highly complex, highly regulated, and mission-critical environments.
Anthony’s path to executive leadership was built through progressively expanding responsibility across healthcare systems, service organizations, and operational disciplines. Prior to his current role, he served in leadership positions with HCA Healthcare, Crothall Healthcare, Beth Sholom LifeCare Community, and Aramark Facility Services. Throughout his career, he has held leadership responsibility for environmental services, food and nutrition services, facilities management, engineering, human resources, security, transportation, linen services, contract administration, recruiting, workforce management, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance. This broad operating background provides him with a unique enterprise-level understanding of how people, processes, finances, facilities, and service delivery intersect to drive organizational performance.
Developing people and building strong teams has been a consistent hallmark of Anthony’s leadership. He has led individuals at every level of the organization, from frontline employees to senior leaders, and has been responsible for leadership development, succession planning, and organizational capability building throughout much of his career. As a corporate trainer, he delivered leadership education in finance, diversity, employee engagement, and management effectiveness. His leadership philosophy emphasizes accountability, transparency, professional growth, and helping individuals understand how their contributions connect to broader organizational goals.
Anthony complements his operating experience with a strong academic and executive-development foundation. He earned a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management and a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources Management from The New School. He also completed the HCA Leadership Institute Executive Leadership Program. Together, these educational experiences strengthen the multidisciplinary perspective he brings to executive leadership, organizational governance, financial stewardship, workforce development, and strategic decision-making.
As Anthony expands his contribution through board and advisory service, he offers organizations a perspective shaped by decades of executive leadership in highly complex and highly regulated environments. His experience spans strategic planning, organizational transformation, financial stewardship, human capital development, operational excellence, emergency preparedness, and crisis management. He has overseen significant financial and contract resources, led large-scale organizational change, developed future leaders, and guided teams through periods of growth, disruption, and transformation.
Anthony is particularly well positioned to contribute in areas involving governance, organizational strategy, workforce engagement, operational performance, customer and patient experience, compliance oversight, enterprise risk management, succession planning, and culture development. He brings the ability to ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions constructively, evaluate opportunities through both strategic and operational lenses, and help leadership teams execute with accountability and discipline.
At the center of Anthony’s leadership philosophy are qualities that extend beyond business results: reliability, integrity, loyalty, confidentiality, and stewardship. He believes effective leadership requires knowing when to collaborate, when to listen, when to challenge assumptions, and when decisive action is necessary. His career demonstrates an ability to move comfortably between boardroom strategy and frontline execution, providing practical insight while maintaining a focus on long-term value creation. For organizations seeking a board member who understands both enterprise strategy and operational realities, Anthony offers a combination of business acumen, financial stewardship, operational depth, workforce leadership, risk management expertise, and disciplined accountability.
