Alan R. Weiner is an accomplished global tax executive, strategic finance leader, and trusted corporate advisor whose career spans nearly four decades of helping multinational organizations navigate complex financial, regulatory, and operational challenges. Throughout his distinguished career, Alan has consistently demonstrated an exceptional ability to align sophisticated tax strategies with broader business objectives, creating measurable shareholder value while supporting sustainable organizational growth. His expertise extends well beyond taxation, encompassing mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, enterprise risk management, corporate governance, international business operations, and executive leadership. Recognized for his analytical rigor and practical business judgment, Alan has become a valued advisor to executive leadership teams and boards of directors seeking thoughtful guidance on complex strategic decisions.

Alan’s professional journey reflects an unwavering commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. With 39 years of experience spanning law firms and Fortune 500 multinational corporations, he has developed an extraordinary ability to translate highly technical financial and regulatory matters into actionable business strategies. His leadership style is rooted in careful analysis, collaboration, and methodical execution, enabling organizations to make informed decisions while maintaining strong governance and compliance standards. Rather than simply solving problems, Alan is known for identifying opportunities that position organizations for long-term success.

Most recently, Alan served as Head of Global Tax for Viatris, Inc., formerly Mylan Inc., where he led the company’s worldwide tax organization from 2009 through April 2024 before transitioning into an advisory consulting role. In this capacity, he oversaw every aspect of the global tax function for a pharmaceutical company generating more than $15 billion in annual revenue. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Accounting Officer, Treasurer, General Counsel, business unit leaders, and the Board of Directors, Alan became an integral strategic partner in shaping the organization’s financial and operational direction. His responsibilities extended far beyond compliance, encompassing corporate strategy, acquisitions, restructurings, international tax planning, financial reporting, and enterprise-wide decision-making.

Among Alan’s most significant accomplishments at Viatris was reducing the company’s worldwide effective tax rate from approximately 30 percent to 16 percent despite maintaining substantial research, development, and manufacturing operations across the United States and India. He directed tax planning for major acquisitions, dispositions, inversions, legal entity integrations, intercompany financing programs, and international restructurings while managing complex tax controversies in the United States, Australia, France, Germany, India, Italy, and the United Kingdom. His ability to anticipate regulatory challenges while creating innovative financial solutions generated substantial long-term value for the organization and reinforced his reputation as one of the industry’s premier strategic tax executives. Even following his retirement from the executive role, Alan continues to advise Viatris on significant international tax matters and strategic planning initiatives as a consultant.

Prior to joining Mylan, Alan served as International Tax Counsel for GE Money, where he developed sophisticated strategies involving foreign tax credits, cross-border funding structures, joint ventures, and international business dispositions. His innovative planning enabled the organization to maximize tax efficiency while supporting global business expansion and strategic investments. Earlier, as Vice President of Tax at Chemtura Corporation, Alan successfully reduced the company’s worldwide effective tax rate from 36 percent to 32 percent within his first ten months while implementing technology modernization initiatives, reorganizing the tax function, improving reporting processes, and strengthening governance across a complex multinational organization.

One of the defining chapters of Alan’s career was his remarkable sixteen-year tenure with Pfizer, where he progressed through multiple leadership positions culminating in Senior Tax Counsel overseeing global tax planning and transfer pricing. During this period, he played a pivotal role in integrating the tax structures associated with Pfizer’s acquisitions of Warner-Lambert and Pharmacia, helping unify operations across dozens of international jurisdictions while identifying significant tax savings opportunities. His work included global transfer pricing strategies, foreign tax credit optimization, treasury planning, product sourcing strategies, business reorganizations, strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and worldwide funding initiatives. Leading teams of tax professionals while collaborating closely with finance, treasury, accounting, legal, and operational executives, Alan consistently demonstrated an uncommon ability to bridge technical expertise with practical business leadership.

Alan began his distinguished professional career practicing tax law with the internationally respected law firms Debevoise & Plimpton and Schulte Roth & Zabel, where he advised clients on sophisticated domestic and international corporate transactions, acquisitions, reorganizations, partnership structures, debt restructurings, and cross-border investments. This legal foundation established the technical expertise that would become the cornerstone of his executive career while also shaping his disciplined, analytical approach to solving highly complex business challenges. His educational accomplishments are equally impressive, earning both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University School of Law, where he served on the prestigious Law Review editorial staff and received the American Jurisprudence Award in Contracts. He also graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science while earning Phi Beta Kappa honors.

Throughout his career, Alan has earned the trust of executive leadership teams because of his ability to understand not only financial issues but also the broader business implications behind every strategic decision. He believes effective leadership begins with listening, learning, and developing a comprehensive understanding of an organization’s people, culture, and objectives before recommending solutions. His thoughtful and measured approach enables him to evaluate challenges from multiple perspectives while balancing legal, financial, operational, and governance considerations. Whether advising on a multinational acquisition, resolving a complex international dispute, or supporting executive leadership through organizational transformation, Alan consistently delivers practical, well-reasoned recommendations that create measurable value.

Today, Alan is actively pursuing corporate board opportunities where he can leverage his extensive experience in finance, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, governance, and global business operations. He views board service as a natural extension of a career built on advising executive leadership and contributing to high-level strategic decision-making. Open to organizations of all sizes and industries, with particular interest in pharmaceuticals and healthcare, Alan offers boards an exceptional combination of financial acumen, legal expertise, global business perspective, and collaborative leadership. His international experience across Europe, Australia, Japan, India, and numerous other jurisdictions provides valuable insight into the complexities of operating in today’s interconnected global economy.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Alan enjoys reading, music, golf, and maintaining an active lifestyle through regular exercise. These interests reflect his lifelong commitment to continuous learning, personal discipline, and maintaining balance between professional excellence and personal well-being.
