“Treat Others as You Would Like to Be Treated.”

Scott Hodgson is a seasoned agricultural executive whose career spans more than three and a half decades across feed manufacturing, fertilizer sales, cooperative governance, and multi-site operational leadership. Known for his steady judgment, communication-first leadership style, and ability to unify teams toward a shared strategic vision, Scott has built a reputation as a trusted operator, advisor, and advocate for well-governed, high-performing organizations. His philosophy—rooted in respect, transparency, and accountability—has guided every stage of his professional journey and continues to shape his pursuit of meaningful board service.

Scott’s commitment to agriculture began early, grounded in his education at Penn State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in General Agriculture. This academic foundation became the launchpad for a career defined by continuous learning and hands-on experience across multiple agricultural disciplines. From his early years working in dairy nutrition and animal agriculture to later roles overseeing sophisticated operational networks, Scott cultivated a deep understanding of the people, processes, and pressures that shape the agricultural industry. His additional credentials as a Professional Animal Scientist and Certified Feed Management professional further demonstrate his dedication to technical competence and industry stewardship.

Scott began his professional journey with The Beacon Milling Company, later Cargill, where he served in diverse and progressively responsible roles including Dairy Sales, Swine Specialist, Assistant to the Director of Nutrition, and ultimately Branch Manager. These ten years were instrumental in shaping his leadership identity. He learned how to bridge technical knowledge with practical application, how to motivate teams across varied functions, and how to manage the delicate balance between on-farm customer needs and corporate strategic objectives. This early exposure to both technical and managerial demands laid the groundwork for the executive leader he would later become.

His transition to Martinsburg Milling Company marked the next significant evolution in his career. As General Manager, Scott took on full responsibility for operations, purchasing, personnel, sales, marketing, and budgeting. Under his leadership, sales volume doubled while profitability remained strong—a testament to his ability to drive growth without compromising operational integrity. Reporting directly to a five-member board, Scott also developed a firsthand appreciation for board-executive dynamics, learning to navigate governance expectations while maintaining the agility needed to keep a business competitive.

Scott continued broadening his expertise as an independent agri-business consultant, supporting dealers with nutritional guidance and sales strategy. This entrepreneurial chapter reinforced his ability to operate autonomously, think creatively, and tailor solutions to diverse organizational environments. He strengthened his reputation as a partner who could be trusted not only for his knowledge, but also for his integrity and candor—qualities that would later make him an asset to multiple boards and leadership teams.

His tenure at Cumberland Valley Cooperative represented one of the most defining stages of his career. Serving first as Sales and Nutrition Manager and later as General Manager, Scott oversaw the daily operations, long-term profitability, and financial stability of the cooperative. He managed grain and fertilizer purchasing, led staff development, and implemented critical policy recommendations for an 18-member board. During this period, Scott championed greater professionalism, initiated long-range planning efforts, and contributed to sustained increases in tonnage, volume, and profitability. His ability to unify teams, modernize practices, and strengthen board relations demonstrated his capacity to elevate both organizational performance and governance standards.

Scott’s executive leadership reached its height during his time as Chief Operating Officer for Feed Commodities International. Here, he oversaw six feed production sites, managed sales and production leadership, and directed key operational areas including credit, inventory control, accounts payable, and human resources. His accomplishments included implementing a company-wide employee handbook, aligning policies and procedures across locations, introducing enhanced training and software utilization, and successfully hiring a new Sales Manager and Chief Financial Officer. Reporting to three owners, Scott brought clarity, structure, and accountability to a rapidly evolving organization, ensuring consistency and communication across a large and complex workforce.

Following his retirement in 2012, Scott continued living out his commitment to service through volunteer work in Guatemala alongside a local doctor, as well as through ongoing contributions to Meals on Wheels. These experiences reflect the values that have always driven him—service, community, and compassion. Even in retirement, Scott’s desire to contribute meaningfully to the growth and well-being of others remains unwavering.

Today, Scott is actively seeking to bring his decades of leadership, operational expertise, and board-level insight to organizations in need of steady strategic guidance. With extensive experience supporting and reporting to cooperative boards and individual ownership boards, he understands what strong governance looks like—and where it breaks down. Scott’s objective in board service is to help organizations cultivate functional, forward-thinking, and ethically grounded governance structures that support long-term sustainability. His blend of operational mastery, people-centered leadership, and strategic discipline positions him as a valuable asset to organizations across agriculture, feed, fertilizer, equipment, and adjacent industries.

Scott’s personal life mirrors the humility and discipline he has demonstrated in his career. He enjoys yard work, time in nature, and the simple fulfillment that comes from contributing to the well-being of others. These grounded passions complement his professional strengths and serve as a reminder that leadership is not merely a function of authority, but of character and consistency.
