Patrick Still: Disciplined Leadership, Strategic Insight, and Financial Stewardship in Service of Lasting Value

Published on:

Patrick Still is a senior finance executive and board director candidate whose career has been defined by disciplined financial leadership, strategic decision-making, and a commitment to helping organizations translate complexity into meaningful action. With more than 25 years of professional experience spanning public accounting, corporate finance, healthcare, and life sciences, Patrick brings a perspective shaped by both technical rigor and enterprise-level leadership. Throughout his career, he has advised senior executives on financial performance, capital allocation, enterprise risk, strategic planning, organizational transformation, and long-term value creation. His experience supporting businesses ranging from focused commercial portfolios to a global healthcare enterprise has given him a deep appreciation for the responsibilities that accompany effective governance and financial stewardship.

Patrick currently serves as Vice President, Operations Planning & Analysis at Pfizer, where he leads enterprise performance management, forecasting, and strategic planning activities supporting approximately $60 billion in annual revenue. In this capacity, he provides senior leadership with independent analysis of business performance, emerging risks, growth opportunities, and capital deployment priorities. His work requires looking beyond financial results to understand the operational and strategic forces influencing performance and determining where leadership attention can have the greatest impact. He also partners with Digital teams to strengthen data quality, metadata standards, and predictive insights, reflecting his belief that better information and disciplined analytics are fundamental to better executive decisions.

Before assuming his current enterprise leadership position, Patrick served as Chief Financial Officer for Pfizer’s Internal Medicine North America business. As CFO, he held financial responsibility for a commercial portfolio generating approximately $7 billion in revenue and approximately $1 billion in operating expenditures. He directed financial oversight, strategic planning, profitability management, and resource allocation while partnering with commercial leaders on decisions affecting growth and operating performance. The position further developed Patrick’s ability to balance financial discipline with commercial priorities, helping leadership evaluate investments not simply by their immediate cost, but by their potential to advance broader strategic objectives.

Transformation and integration have also been important dimensions of Patrick’s career. During his tenure as CFO, he led integration activities following a $12 billion acquisition, establishing governance, reporting, and performance-management structures designed to improve organizational alignment and transparency. He has guided resource allocation and portfolio investment decisions involving hundreds of millions of dollars across major healthcare brands and identified opportunities to redeploy capital toward higher-priority growth initiatives. These experiences have strengthened his understanding of the challenges organizations encounter when strategy, capital, people, and execution must be brought together during periods of significant change.

Patrick’s progression through Pfizer reflects increasingly broad levels of responsibility. In senior director and FP&A leadership positions, he supported businesses representing tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue while building analytical frameworks and management processes that improved financial visibility and decision-making. Among his accomplishments, he helped reduce operating plan requirements by approximately 20 percent by shifting management attention toward risks, opportunities, and actionable performance drivers. He also developed a launch-asset investment model that contributed to an approximately 25 percent increase in launch investment, demonstrating his ability to use financial analysis as a catalyst for strategic resource allocation rather than simply as a reporting function.

Earlier in his Pfizer career, Patrick served in financial reporting, projects, analysis, controller, and related leadership roles. He developed consolidated global revenue insights across major product portfolios, created reporting frameworks that improved the accuracy and efficiency of financial processes, and built analytical tools to monitor receivables and financial risk exposures. His responsibilities included supporting complex transactions exceeding $250 million and establishing processes capable of operating effectively at global scale. This foundation gave Patrick a detailed understanding of the controls, reporting standards, governance practices, and financial infrastructure required to support large public companies.

Patrick began his professional journey with PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he ultimately served as an Audit Manager. His Big Four experience established the technical accounting and financial-reporting discipline that would become a foundation for his corporate leadership career. Among his responsibilities, he helped manage the transition of a Fortune 200 audit from another Big Four firm, gaining firsthand exposure to public-company reporting, internal controls, audit rigor, and the importance of credible financial information. Combined with his subsequent operating and finance leadership experience, this background enables Patrick to consider business questions through multiple lenses: auditor, controller, finance executive, commercial partner, strategist, and enterprise advisor.

His academic preparation complements this professional experience. Patrick earned an MBA in Finance and Management from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, with High Honors, from Rutgers University. He has also developed extensive capabilities across financial analysis, financial modeling, forecasting, scenario planning, data governance, executive communication, decision support, and process optimization. Over time, those technical capabilities have expanded into broader leadership expertise encompassing corporate governance, enterprise risk management, capital allocation, mergers and acquisitions, post-merger integration, business transformation, investor communications, commercial operations, talent development, and public-company reporting.

Patrick’s experience positions him particularly well to contribute to small and medium-sized companies in life sciences and consumer packaged goods, where disciplined governance and sophisticated financial thinking can have an outsized impact. As a prospective board director, he offers the perspective of an Audit Committee financial expert as well as that of an executive accustomed to evaluating strategy, risk, performance, and capital through an enterprise lens. He understands how to ask rigorous questions of management while maintaining focus on the larger objective: helping an organization make better decisions and build sustainable value. His experience working within a highly complex and regulated global healthcare environment also gives him an appreciation for balancing opportunity with risk, accountability, stakeholder expectations, and operational realities.

A defining feature of Patrick’s leadership philosophy is the connection he draws between financial stewardship and strategic impact. He views finance not simply as a mechanism for measuring what has already happened, but as a means of illuminating choices about what should happen next. Whether evaluating portfolio priorities, modeling alternative scenarios, identifying emerging risks, supporting executive performance reviews, or collaborating with Investor Relations on earnings guidance and external financial communications, he brings a forward-looking orientation to his work. His approach combines analytical depth with practical business judgment, allowing him to turn complex financial and operational information into insights leaders can use.

Patrick is pursuing board service at a stage in his career when he has both the experience and capacity to contribute meaningfully beyond his executive responsibilities. After more than two decades of helping organizations navigate financial, strategic, and operational decisions, he is motivated by the opportunity to apply that knowledge in support of companies seeking thoughtful governance, sustainable growth, and positive organizational impact. He is particularly interested in environments where directors can serve as constructive partners to leadership—challenging assumptions when necessary, bringing clarity to difficult tradeoffs, and helping management maintain a disciplined focus on long-term value creation.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Patrick values travel and the perspective that comes from experiencing different places and environments. That curiosity complements a career built around continuous learning, thoughtful analysis, and an openness to new ways of approaching challenges. His professional story ultimately reflects a progression from technical accounting and audit expertise to increasingly consequential roles in finance, strategy, transformation, and enterprise leadership. As he looks toward board service, Patrick brings not only a substantial record of financial and operational accomplishment, but also a desire to put that experience to work helping organizations and their leadership teams make a positive and enduring impact.
