Kevin Rooker’s professional journey spans more than four decades of excellence, innovation, and dedication to the evolving world of diagnostic medical sonography. From his earliest days in clinical radiology to his present role shaping global ultrasound education at GE Healthcare, Kevin has continually sought to advance the science and application of ultrasound in medicine. His career reflects a rare combination of hands-on clinical expertise, commercial acumen, and a tireless commitment to improving patient outcomes through education, innovation, and leadership.
Kevin began his career in radiologic technology, graduating as valedictorian from the Sutter Community Hospitals School of Radiological Technology. His initial clinical experiences instilled a foundational respect for the precision and potential of medical imaging. That respect soon grew into a passion for sonography—a field in which Kevin would ultimately establish himself as a leading authority. Over the years, he earned and maintained multiple credentials, including RDMS and RVT, and became an early advocate for integrating ultrasound more broadly into diagnostic and procedural workflows.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Kevin’s work took on a growing educational and consultative dimension. He became known not only for his technical mastery but also for his ability to translate complex clinical concepts into practical applications. By the mid-1990s, he was founding and operating his own mobile ultrasound company, Professional Ultrasound Imaging, where he successfully managed sonographer placement, accreditation consulting, and training services across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. His entrepreneurial instincts were matched by his passion for building capacity in others—a theme that would define the next chapters of his career.
Kevin’s leadership in sonography education extended beyond the United States. He has taught, trained, and presented in hospitals and academic institutions throughout Europe and New Zealand. As a member of the faculty for Emory University School of Medicine’s “Ultrasonography for Nephrologists” CME program for nearly 30 years, he has been instrumental in delivering consistent, high-impact clinical education to physicians worldwide. This global exposure has not only enriched Kevin’s perspective but also deepened his understanding of cross-cultural approaches to medical imaging and healthcare delivery.
In the commercial realm, Kevin made his mark at organizations like Veracyte and CIVCO Medical Solutions, where he served in both training and marketing roles. His work often bridged the clinical and commercial, helping companies develop, test, and deliver educational content that resonated with practitioners in the field. From developing eLearning modules using Articulate 360 to creating new hire training curricula and producing video training materials, Kevin has stayed ahead of the curve in instructional design and digital learning.
His most recent tenure with BK Medical, and subsequently GE Healthcare, highlights the apex of his impact. As Global Product and Clinical Training Manager, and now in his current USCAN leadership role, Kevin has been responsible for designing and executing comprehensive product training strategies across North America and internationally. His work ensures that ultrasound technology is not only used effectively but also that users—from surgeons to sonographers—understand its capabilities and limitations. Through collaborations with surgeon KOLs and development of training for new product introductions, Kevin has significantly influenced how surgical ultrasound is taught and adopted.
Kevin’s thought leadership extends to authorship as well. His published work includes studies in prestigious journals such as Radiology and Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology, addressing topics ranging from sterile techniques during vascular access to the evolving mechanics of ultrasound imaging. These contributions reflect his scientific rigor and his ongoing curiosity about the future of the field.
Beyond his career, Kevin’s values are evident in the time he dedicates to volunteerism and advisory roles. He serves on advisory boards for multiple sonography programs at institutions like Weatherford College and Tarrant County Community College. He has also held elected positions within professional organizations such as the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America. Whether helping guide educational standards or supporting young professionals, Kevin consistently demonstrates his commitment to the growth and integrity of the ultrasound profession.
Personally, Kevin brings authenticity and humility to all he does. Known for raising Texas Longhorn cattle on his property in Texas, he reflects a grounded, hands-on approach to life that mirrors his professional ethos: purposeful, hardworking, and dependable. While he is now seeking board service roles as a way to remain active in the industry with a more balanced lifestyle, his intent is to continue making meaningful contributions wherever his expertise can drive innovation and growth.
As he looks to the future, Kevin is motivated by the opportunity to influence from the boardroom. His unique combination of clinical depth, commercial insight, international perspective, and educational leadership makes him an exceptional candidate for organizations seeking seasoned guidance in healthcare innovation, medical device strategy, or professional education. He sees board service not as a retirement path but as an evolution—a way to stay engaged, support meaningful missions, and mentor future leaders in the field he has helped shape for over 40 years.
