John D. Bailey is a highly respected executive with over 40 years of experience at the intersection of financial management, legal and risk management with an emphasis in the hospitality industry. His career reflects a powerful blend of strategic acumen, operational expertise, and personal resilience. Whether transforming organizations into industry leaders or navigating the complexities of receivership, John has consistently demonstrated the ability to create value and inspire trust in challenging environments.
John’s professional journey began with a strong foundation in accounting, earning his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas Tech University in 1979. Inspired by his mother, who broke barriers as part of the founding team of the Dallas office of Arthur Andersen in 1951, John pursued a career in accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1981. His early role as a Senior Accountant at Ernst & Whinney allowed him to work with major clients in real estate, healthcare, and defense contracting, sharpening his analytical skills, and building a reputation for excellence.
In 1989, John entered the hospitality sector as Director of Finance for the Harvey Hotel Company in Dallas, a precursor to Bristol Hotels & Resorts. Over the next decade, he advanced to Vice President/Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer, guiding the company through a period of remarkable growth. Bristol became a publicly traded enterprise with 130 properties and over $1 billion in revenue, earning its place as the largest owner/operator of full-service hotels in North America in the mid 1990’s. John’s financial stewardship and operational insight were instrumental in making Bristol a dominant force in the hospitality industry.
John continued to make his mark as a Partner and Chief Financial Officer for Prism Hotels & Resorts, a role he held for nearly 20 years. During his tenure, Prism grew into an award-winning, full-service hotel management company, managing over fifty hotels and 9,000 rooms across the United States and the Caribbean. He led the company’s financial operations, legal administration and governance, risk management, technology initiatives, and co-led the lender services practice while contributing significantly to its business development strategies. Under John’s leadership, Prism maintained its reputation for operational excellence, culminating in its acquisition by Aimbridge Hospitality, the largest third-party hotel management company in the U.S., in December 2021.
At Aimbridge, John co-led the Lender Services practice from 2022 to 2023, overseeing distressed hotel engagements and providing innovative solutions during one of the most challenging periods for the industry. Throughout his career, John has served as a court-appointed receiver in more than 150 cases across 34 states, managing a high-profile bankruptcy proceeding and complex financial and franchise restructurings. His ability to navigate these situations with precision and integrity has cemented his status as an industry leader.
Beyond his professional achievements, John’s personal resilience is equally inspiring. In 2021, he faced a life-changing cancer diagnosis with an aggressive form of bladder cancer. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries and 12 weeks of chemotherapy, John continued to lead his team, leveraging technology to work remotely from treatment centers. His determination and positive mindset earned him recognition as a CFO of the Year honoree by the Dallas Business Journal.
Today, John serves as the Principal Consultant at JDB Adviser, where he shares his deep expertise in financial management, strategic planning, and lender services. His passion for innovation and excellence continues to drive his work as he helps businesses navigate complex challenges and achieve sustainable growth. Known for his visionary leadership and collaborative approach, John is a trusted advisor to organizations seeking transformational change.
John’s commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is a hallmark of his leadership style. John serves as an active Dallas Area Board Member for the American Cancer Society and is involved promoting health equity for all.
John’s personal interests mirror his dedication to living a balanced and meaningful life.
