Joan P. Young is a seasoned executive whose career spans over four decades across law, investment banking, wealth management, and family office leadership. She has held senior roles at global firms including Morgan Stanley, Christie’s, and Mousse Partners, and built a successful advisory practice supporting ultra-high-net-worth families and their advisors.

Joan began her professional journey after earning her J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School and graduating summa cum laude in Political Science from Bryn Mawr College. She practiced corporate law at Davis Polk & Wardwell from 1980 to 1984, then moved into investment banking—first at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette as Vice President (1984–1986), and later at Morgan Stanley, where she spent a decade (1986–1996) as a Managing Director leading M&A, equity capital markets, and operations.

In 1996, she became General Counsel for North America at Christie’s, overseeing corporate governance, strategic transactions, and regulatory matters in the art world. The following year, she joined Mousse Partners (1997–2001), the Chanel family office, where she built and ran the investment infrastructure, directed asset allocation strategies, implemented reporting systems, and led hiring and staff development.

Joan then spent the 2000s in leadership roles with a strong focus on private capital and family enterprise. As CEO and Board Member of Schnitzer Investment Corp (2008–2009), she led the firm through the financial crisis, managing leverage, operations, and key external relationships. Her Board experience over decades at a New York charity and for Schnitzer makes her an experienced Board member. From 2010 to 2012, she founded and led J P Young & Associates, acting as an outsourced CEO/CIO to wealthy families. She later served as Managing Director at Trafelet Capital Management in 2013, managing a hedge fund principal’s personal portfolio and estate planning needs.

From 2016 to 2019, Joan worked as an independent consultant, advising wealth managers and family offices. She then held a Managing Director role from 2019 to 2024 across Boston Private, Silicon Valley Bank, and ultimately First Citizens Bank, where she focused on business development and relationship management for fund managers, family enterprises, and advisors navigating succession and governance.

Joan is known for her broad expertise and the clarity, integrity, and communication skills she brings to every role. She combines legal and financial insight with a direct, empathetic style. Skilled at managing complexity, she works seamlessly with clients and advisors to deliver practical, lasting results.

Joan lives in Westchester, New York, with her daughters and pets. A dedicated runner and tennis player, she brings the same energy and focus to her personal life as she does to her professional pursuits. She continues to seek meaningful work where she can contribute her experience, insight, and enduring commitment to excellence.
