After beginning his career as a practicing chemical engineer, Jerry transitioned into the United States Army, where he served for 26 years. His tenure included positions as Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology, Director of Engineering Technology, Director of Engineering and Computer Science, and ultimately Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. His leadership was especially impactful in aligning academic programs with evolving industry needs and accreditation standards, ensuring students were prepared for successful careers. This was especially significant in taking the Engineering Technology program and converting it to Engineering, a process that was strategic and in line with local industry needs. This resulted in a tripling of student enrollment in the new program.
As Vice President, Jerry became known for his ability to bring together diverse groups of stakeholders, from students and faculty to trustees and external partners. He embraced strategic planning as both a science and an art, fostering consensus while driving forward institutional objectives.
