Gunther Plosch is an accomplished global financial strategist whose career spans more than three decades across some of the world’s most respected consumer-facing organizations. Known for his decisive leadership, pragmatic approach, and ability to translate strategy into measurable outcomes, he has built a reputation as a transformative CFO who inspires teams, strengthens organizations, and drives sustainable, enterprise-level value creation. His journey—from his early days in Austria to executive leadership roles across Europe, the United States, and internationally—reflects a lifelong commitment to excellence, curiosity, and purposeful impact.
Born and educated in Austria, Gunther completed his MBA-equivalent degree with excellence at Johannes Kepler University in Linz, demonstrating early signs of the discipline and analytical acumen that would define his career. After completing military service, he joined Procter & Gamble, beginning a decade-long progression through increasingly complex financial and operational roles. His time at P&G shaped both his leadership philosophy and his expertise in financial planning, process design, and systems implementation. Across Vienna, London, and Brussels, he managed high-risk business environments, executed post-acquisition integrations, deployed SAP systems, and guided financial planning for dozens of countries. These years built the foundation for his global perspective and deep technical command of financial operations.
Gunther’s leadership matured further during his sixteen-year tenure with Kellogg Company, where he held some of the most influential finance roles in the organization. As Finance Director for the UK and Ireland, he led the transformation of the finance function into a proactive business partner, managed through leadership transitions, and executed major system implementations. His success in Europe led him to the United States, where he served as Vice President of Corporate Planning, shaping global profit and cash flow planning processes and working closely with senior leadership and the Board.
His ascent continued as CFO of Kellogg North America, a $9.5 billion business in which he oversaw the full finance organization across the region. Gunther guided the transformation of the finance function, established Centers of Excellence, executed the financial integration of Pringles, and introduced procurement and risk management tools that drove significant cost efficiencies. In his final role at Kellogg, as Vice President of Global Business Services, he led the creation of service centers in Romania, Michigan, and Mexico and oversaw the global rollout of GBS operations across IT, finance, HR, and supply chain. This large-scale transformation reinforced his reputation as a visionary operator capable of architecting both organizational design and operational execution on a global level.
In 2016, Gunther joined The Wendy’s Company as Chief Financial Officer and embarked on what would become one of the most significant chapters of his career. Reporting to the CEO and serving as a influential member of the executive leadership team, he guided the company through a period of remarkable growth and modernization. Under his financial leadership, global system sales rose from $9.9 billion to $14.5 billion, adjusted EBITDA expanded to more than $540 million, and free cash flow grew sixfold. He strengthened the capital structure, introduced Zero-Based Budgeting, executed four restructuring initiatives, and reshaped the organization’s operating model for long-term scalability.
During his Wendy’s tenure, Gunther also played an instrumental role in the company’s strategic evolution. He led the financial planning and execution behind the launch of the Breakfast Daypart, accelerated the company’s digital transformation, and supported major development initiatives. His leadership was essential in navigating shareholder activism, including engagement with the Trian Fund and participation in the strategic review process following its 13D filing. For his exceptional performance, Institutional Investor recognized him as the #2 CFO in the Mid-Cap Restaurant sector, further validating his standing as a respected voice in the industry.
Gunther’s influence extended beyond the financial office to his leadership philosophy, anchored by a vision he developed with his team at Wendy’s: “Creating positive change with a sense of urgency.” This philosophy guided not only his decision-making but his approach to developing people, fostering alignment, and building high-performance teams. He is widely regarded as a leader who invests deeply in talent, encourages practical problem-solving, and brings clarity to complex environments. His teams often cite his ability to blend strategic foresight with approachable communication and operational rigor.
In addition to his corporate roles, Gunther contributed significantly to board governance and strategic oversight. He served on the board of QSCC, the Supply Chain Co-Op for the Wendy’s Franchise System, where he provided financial stewardship and operational insight through a period of evolution and modernization. His broad experience across multiple geographies—including Austria, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and the United States—combined with fluency in German and working knowledge of French, positioned him as a versatile leader with strong cultural agility.
Today, following his retirement from Wendy’s in December 2024, Gunther remains deeply committed to the business community and to the development of future leaders. With 35 years of global experience in multinational organizations, he is pursuing opportunities to serve on public or private boards where his expertise in finance, transformation, corporate strategy, and large-scale operations can help organizations accelerate performance and create long-term value. He continues to be guided by his core belief in the importance of purposeful leadership, positive change, and disciplined execution.
Gunther resides in Miami, Florida, where he enjoys an active personal life while remaining engaged in the broader financial and consumer sector communities. Though he maintains a low public profile, he is widely respected by colleagues, investors, and peers for both his humility and his unwavering commitment to doing what is right for the business, the team, and the broader stakeholder community.
