Elizabeth Quencer is a multidisciplinary executive whose career reflects an uncommon combination of financial acumen, legal training, data governance expertise, strategic leadership, and executive communication. With approximately 16 years of professional experience spanning financial services, law, accounting, data management, corporate strategy, government, and nonprofit leadership, she has built a career around solving complex problems, strengthening organizations, and bringing people together around shared priorities. Her personal philosophy, “Learn something new every day,” captures both the intellectual curiosity and disciplined growth mindset that have shaped her professional journey.
Elizabeth currently serves as Senior Vice President and Data Management Principal Manager within M&T Bank’s Enterprise Data & AI organization, where she leads data cataloging and lineage capabilities across a highly regulated banking environment. In this role, she is accountable to regulators and auditors for the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance of the bank’s Priority Data Standards, Authoritative Data Source Standards, and related procedures. Working within a federated data governance model and an evolving enterprise data ecosystem, she has helped translate regulatory expectations and business needs into scalable, practical capabilities that support stronger decision-making, accountability, and enterprise-wide data confidence.
Her leadership impact at M&T Bank is demonstrated not only by the scope of her responsibilities, but also by the scale of the systems and teams she has helped build. As a people leader, she manages team leads and data scientists while focusing on talent development, performance improvement, collaboration, and advancement. Her ability to connect technical execution with regulatory, strategic, and organizational priorities has made her an effective bridge between data teams, finance leaders, executives, auditors, regulators, and business stakeholders.
Before moving into Enterprise Data & AI, Elizabeth advanced rapidly through M&T Bank’s finance organization, earning three promotions in four years and ultimately serving as Senior Vice President and Finance Manager II within Financial Performance Management. She played a leading role in the development of ProfitLink, M&T’s enterprise-wide profitability and performance measurement ecosystem. Her responsibilities included stakeholder interviews, reporting and data requirements, user acceptance testing, platform validation, executive communications, and capability demonstrations. The platform connected customer-, account-, product-, transaction-, segment-, and line-of-business-level information to help diverse internal audiences make more informed financial and strategic decisions. Elizabeth personally delivered more than 50 live platform demonstrations to senior executive stakeholders and managed both direct reports and large matrixed teams of analysts and external consultants.
Elizabeth’s ability to communicate complex information clearly has been a consistent differentiator throughout her career. In addition to leading executive-facing presentations and platform demonstrations, she served as a lead researcher, fact-checker, proofreader, and supporting ghostwriter for M&T Bank’s CEO Annual Message to Shareholders in 2019 and 2020. She has also participated as a recurring panelist, guest speaker, mentor, and coach for M&T’s Executive Associate and Management Development Programs. Comfortable speaking to audiences of varying sizes, she combines analytical rigor with clear storytelling, making technical, financial, regulatory, and strategic concepts more accessible to senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
Her professional foundation is strengthened by an unusually broad academic background. Elizabeth earned both a Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, with concentrations in Strategy and Corporate Finance. She also earned a Master of Accounting from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School, graduating in the top 10 percent of her class, and a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University with majors in Television, Radio and Film, Political Science, and Psychology, graduating summa cum laude. She has passed both the New York State Bar Exam and the Uniform CPA Exam, reflecting a rare blend of legal, accounting, financial, and strategic knowledge that informs her approach to governance, risk, oversight, and enterprise leadership.
Earlier in her career, Elizabeth gained experience across corporate law, intellectual property, investment banking, government, and strategic communications. At CAR-FRESHNER Corporation, she served as Legal Coordinator and Special Project Manager, where she managed international trademark litigation, helped direct global patent application strategies, and supported confidential internal consulting work for senior leadership. She also completed graduate-level internships in mergers and acquisitions investment banking with Wells Fargo Securities and in law with Hancock Estabrook, LLP. Her earlier work included legislative and research roles in New York State government, political campaign leadership, a United States Senate internship, and legal experience in London. These varied assignments gave her an early appreciation for how law, finance, policy, communications, and organizational dynamics intersect.
Board and community leadership have also been important elements of Elizabeth’s professional development. She has served in officer, executive committee, finance committee, governance committee, and community outreach leadership roles with organizations including the Thompson Park Conservancy, the Resolution Center of Jefferson and Lewis Counties, and the Jefferson County branch of the American Association of University Women. She also founded and led the Jefferson Leadership Institute Scholarship-Mentorship Program and participated in the Watertown Evening Rotary Club. These experiences provided hands-on exposure to nonprofit governance, fundraising, committee leadership, organizational development, community engagement, and mission-driven decision-making.
