Her leadership philosophy is grounded in collaboration, accountability, and the belief that better systems create better outcomes for both patients and healthcare professionals.
Dr. Pendleton currently serves in physician executive leadership at OSF Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center, where she holds the roles of Vice President of Medical Staff and Chair of the Department of Medicine. Her responsibilities require both clinical credibility and strategic judgment, allowing her to represent the interests of physicians while helping align medical staff priorities with the goals of the organization.
Her career progression has been marked by a consistent expansion of responsibility. Prior to her current leadership roles, Dr. Pendleton served as Vice President of Medical Staff and Medical Director of Hospital Medicine at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center. There, she provided clinical and operational leadership for the hospitalist team while collaborating closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, hospital administration, and multidisciplinary stakeholders. Earlier in her career, Dr. Pendleton held a series of leadership positions that further developed her expertise in physician management and hospital operations. She served as the Medical Director (Chief Hospitalist/Lead Hospitalist/Associate Medical Director) with Advocate/Carle Medical Group for the hospitalist team at Carle (Advocate) BroMenn Medical Center where she also served as Department Chair of Family Medicine. These roles gave her extensive experience in multidisciplinary leadership, medical staff governance, clinical program development, and physician performance. They also strengthened her ability to work effectively across complex organizational structures and to translate clinical realities into actionable operational strategies.
One of Dr. Pendleton’s defining strengths is her focus on quality, patient safety, and process improvement. Throughout her career, she has participated in and led committees involving quality and safety, utilization management, credentialing, pharmacy and therapeutics, professional evaluation, throughput, sepsis, stroke care, critical care, and peer review. This breadth of experience has given her a practical understanding of how governance structures, clinical workflows, physician behavior, and organizational policies intersect. She approaches improvement not simply as a matter of policy, but as a disciplined process of identifying barriers, engaging stakeholders, and building solutions that can be sustained in real-world clinical environments.
Her ability to lead through implementation is reflected in her work developing an inpatient hospice program at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center. Dr. Pendleton initiated the program, brought together hospice leadership and multidisciplinary stakeholders, guided workgroup meetings over several months, and helped build the clinical and operational workflow required for implementation. She remained engaged during rollout, helping identify challenges and supporting iterative process improvement. This experience demonstrates her ability to move from concept to execution while maintaining alignment among diverse clinical and administrative participants.
Dr. Pendleton’s clinical foundation is equally broad. Her professional experience includes hospital medicine, family medicine, emergency department practice, and telemedicine, giving her a well-rounded view of patient care across multiple settings. She is board certified in Family Medicine and completed her residency training through the Rush-Copley Family Medicine Residency Program, where she also served as Chief Resident. Her combination of direct patient-care experience and executive leadership allows her to understand healthcare challenges from both the bedside and the boardroom.
Complementing her medical background, Dr. Pendleton earned an MBA from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, expanding her expertise in finance, operations management, organizational leadership, artificial intelligence, and healthcare innovation. Her business education has strengthened her ability to evaluate healthcare challenges through both a clinical and strategic lens. She has also developed a growing interest in emerging healthcare technologies, including AI-enabled clinical documentation, workflow integration, data privacy, governance, and organizational readiness for innovation.
As healthcare continues to evolve, Dr. Pendleton is especially well positioned to contribute to organizations operating across healthcare services, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, health technology, insurance, and related sectors. Her expertise spans hospital medicine, physician leadership, medical staff governance, quality assurance, patient safety, process improvement, utilization management, clinical operations, and general management. She brings particular value to organizations that need an experienced clinical leader who can understand complex healthcare environments while also engaging thoughtfully with business, governance, and strategic priorities.
Dr. Pendleton’s interest in board and advisory service reflects the natural next stage of a career built around helping organizations improve. Having served in medical executive leadership and on numerous governance and quality committees, she understands both the responsibility and the influence that come with advisory and board-level roles.
