David B. Bell is an accomplished technology executive, entrepreneur, and board leader whose career spans more than four decades at the forefront of semiconductor innovation, advanced hardware development, and strategic corporate transformation. Across 47 years in the technology sector, he has earned a reputation for combining engineering rigor with visionary leadership—guiding organizations through industry shifts, scaling global operations, and shaping product categories that influence how people live and work. His professional journey reflects not only a mastery of complex technologies but a sustained commitment to building teams, companies, and solutions that endure.
As Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Actev Motors, David continues to demonstrate his passion for invention and market creation. Launching the company alongside Tony Fadell—renowned for his leadership at Apple, Nest, and Google—David initially focused on developing one of the first smart electric go-karts for children, merging safety, performance, and connectivity into a single consumer experience. The company has since evolved under his direction into a leader in advanced sensing technologies, developing systems that accurately measure UVC ultraviolet light for pathogen neutralization and comprehensive indoor air-quality monitoring instruments designed to improve the health environment in educational and institutional settings.
Before founding Actev Motors, David served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Intersil Corporation, where he drove a transformational shift from a legacy PC-centric component supplier into a system-level analog and mixed-signal semiconductor powerhouse. His leadership at Intersil was defined by strategic clarity, operational discipline, and bold market repositioning. David orchestrated six key acquisitions, enabling the company to diversify its product portfolio, strengthen its competitive posture, and successfully compete against significantly larger industry rivals in emerging high-growth sectors.
Prior to becoming CEO, David served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Intersil, overseeing all five product lines, the global sales infrastructure, corporate marketing, technology development, and worldwide operations. He refined the company’s product strategy to emphasize differentiated, high-performance analog solutions and implemented organizational processes that accelerated innovation and improved execution. His ability to align engineering capabilities with evolving market needs became a defining strength throughout his leadership tenure.
David’s earlier career included more than a decade at Linear Technology Corporation, where he held a series of senior leadership positions culminating in his role as President. During his tenure, company revenues nearly doubled—from $607 million to over $1 billion—and earnings per share increased substantially, solidifying Linear Technology’s status as one of the industry’s most consistently profitable semiconductor companies. He introduced an engineering-driven strategic planning framework that resulted in more rapid, customer-focused product development, while empowering design teams through direct engagement with global clients.
As Vice President and General Manager of Linear Technology’s Power Business Unit, David grew the company’s largest division from approximately half of total sales to more than 60 percent. He reshaped the new product definition process, dissolving centralized structures in favor of empowering engineering teams to lead product conception and development. This shift enabled Linear Technology to consistently outperform competitors in the increasingly fast-paced consumer electronics market, where products such as PDAs, cellular phones, and early mobile devices required rapid innovation and flawless performance.
Earlier in his career, David played a pivotal role at IDEO Product Development, serving as Director of Hardware Engineering for one of the world’s most influential product design firms. There he led multidisciplinary teams across electrical and software engineering, collaborating with mechanical and industrial design groups to deliver landmark products for companies such as Motorola, Apple, GM, Baxter, and Medtronic. His work at IDEO broadened his perspective on user-centered design, cross-functional teamwork, and the art of translating complex engineering concepts into intuitive, impactful consumer solutions.
Before IDEO, David founded and led Bell Associates, transforming a one-person consultancy into a thriving technology development firm of roughly 40 employees. The company achieved early success by incubating Dakota Microsystems, which created the first UPS backup product designed to fit inside a personal computer. This entrepreneurial chapter of his career refined his ability to build companies from the ground up, manage rapid growth, and balance invention with commercial viability.
David began his professional path at Hewlett-Packard, where he advanced from an engineering intern to Engineering Project Manager. In this role, he led development teams responsible for minicomputer power systems and mechanical engineering, gaining foundational experience in systems architecture, hardware design, and team leadership. His academic foundation was established at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Over the course of his career, David has served on multiple corporate boards, including Triad Semiconductor (Chairman), Guerrilla RF, and Aintu. He continues to be recognized for his contributions to engineering and innovation, holding 19 U.S. patents across multiple areas of technology. Beyond his professional achievements, David is driven by genuine enthusiasm for solving meaningful problems, mentoring leaders, and supporting companies at pivotal inflection points in their growth.
He remains based in Mooresville, North Carolina, where he continues to lead Actev Motors and contribute to emerging ventures in sensing, air quality, and public health technologies. Widowed and a father to two sons, David brings a grounded sense of purpose, humility, and personal resilience to every leadership role he accepts. His lifelong passion for cars and mechanical engineering continues to reflect the curiosity and technical mastery that have guided him through nearly five decades of innovation.
