Christopher Tipps: Turning Complex Engineering Challenges into Lasting Solutions

Published on:

“It’s the little things in life that matter.”

For more than 45 years, Christopher Tipps has built an exceptional career defined by engineering excellence, technical leadership, and an unwavering commitment to advancing the aerospace and aviation industries. Throughout his professional journey, he has consistently combined deep technical expertise with practical operational insight, earning a reputation as a trusted subject matter expert capable of solving highly complex engineering challenges. His experience spans aircraft maintenance, mechanical systems, mass properties, flight testing, systems engineering, and engineering management, providing him with a unique perspective that bridges technical innovation and strategic execution. Whether supporting commercial aviation, business aircraft, or advanced space technologies, Christopher has remained focused on delivering solutions that improve performance, enhance safety, and create lasting organizational value.

Christopher currently serves as Senior Principal Engineer at CFD Research Corporation, where he contributes his decades of engineering expertise to cutting-edge aerospace and defense initiatives. Prior to joining CFD Research Corporation, he served as Subject Matter Expert and Mass Properties Engineer with Sev1Tech LLC, supporting sophisticated systems engineering programs involving risk management, mass properties analysis, and multidisciplinary engineering collaboration. These roles represent the culmination of a distinguished career dedicated to advancing aerospace technology while mentoring technical teams and helping organizations navigate increasingly complex engineering environments.

One of Christopher’s most significant professional accomplishments came during his fourteen-year tenure with Gulfstream Aerospace, where he served as a Mechanical Systems and Flight Test Engineer. In this position, he performed comprehensive engineering evaluations involving environmental control systems, aircraft acoustics and vibration analysis, weight and balance, and mass properties for numerous Gulfstream aircraft platforms. His analytical expertise ensured that customer aircraft consistently met or exceeded expectations while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Christopher also managed long-term acoustic and weight management initiatives for special projects, successfully delivering engineering solutions on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with rigorous technical specifications.

Christopher’s experience extends well beyond engineering analysis into engineering leadership and aircraft design. While serving as Project and Senior Engineer at Midcoast Aviation, he managed a team of design engineers responsible for avionics integration and aircraft interior design for Gulfstream, Bombardier, and Falcon business aircraft. He directed Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) engineering projects while overseeing structural substantiation analyses for complex aircraft modifications. His ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams while maintaining strict certification requirements demonstrated both technical mastery and effective leadership, qualities that have remained consistent throughout his career.

Earlier in his professional journey, Christopher served as Director of Maintenance for Executive Flight Management and Choo Choo Aviation, where he oversaw aviation maintenance operations for multiple aircraft platforms. In these executive maintenance leadership roles, he ensured aircraft remained fully compliant with Federal Aviation Regulations while directing maintenance personnel, managing operational readiness, and maintaining uncompromising safety standards. These early leadership experiences provided Christopher with a comprehensive understanding of aircraft operations that continues to strengthen his ability to evaluate engineering decisions from both technical and operational perspectives.

Across every stage of his career, Christopher has developed recognized expertise in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, engineering management, systems engineering, mass properties, composites, finite element analysis, flight testing, CAD, CATIA, acoustics, vibration analysis, engineering risk management, and aircraft certification. His experience encompasses numerous aircraft platforms including the Gulfstream G150, G200, G280, G450, G550, G650, Bombardier aircraft, Falcon business jets, Challenger aircraft, King Air aircraft, and several additional commercial and corporate aviation platforms. This extensive technical background enables him to understand the complete engineering lifecycle, from conceptual design and analysis through certification, manufacturing support, maintenance, and operational performance.

Christopher’s educational accomplishments reflect the same dedication to continuous learning that has characterized his professional career. He earned an Associate of Science in Aerospace from Chattanooga State Community College before completing his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Thermal Science at the University of Tennessee. Recognizing the importance of specialized technical knowledge, he also completed advanced studies in Cooling of Electronic Enclosures and Power Supplies at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. His commitment to lifelong learning has enabled him to remain at the forefront of rapidly evolving aerospace technologies throughout more than four decades of industry advancement.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Christopher embraces a lifestyle centered on discipline, endurance, and personal growth. His passions for triathlons, cycling, and martial arts reflect the perseverance and commitment that have become hallmarks of his professional success. These pursuits reinforce the same qualities that have guided his engineering career: resilience, continuous improvement, precision, and the determination to consistently achieve ambitious goals.

Christopher also remains actively engaged within the aerospace engineering community through his membership in the Society of Allied Weight Engineers (SAWE). His involvement allows him to remain connected with emerging industry developments while collaborating with fellow engineering professionals committed to advancing best practices in aircraft design, weight management, and systems engineering. Although his career has largely focused on technical leadership rather than public recognition, his contributions have had a meaningful impact on the organizations and engineering teams he has served.

Today, Christopher is pursuing opportunities to serve on corporate boards where he can leverage his extensive engineering background and operational leadership experience to help organizations navigate technological innovation, engineering governance, operational excellence, and strategic growth. Having spent more than four decades solving complex engineering challenges while working alongside technicians, engineers, program managers, and executive leadership, he offers boards an exceptional combination of technical credibility, business insight, disciplined decision-making, and practical leadership. His experience across aerospace, aviation, and emerging space technologies positions him to provide thoughtful guidance to organizations seeking leaders who understand both the science behind innovation and the strategy required to transform innovation into lasting business success.
