“Say what you mean and mean what you say.”
Cary Ichter is a nationally respected business litigator, accomplished trial attorney, and law firm leader whose career has been defined by excellence, resilience, strategic thinking, and an unwavering commitment to advocacy. With more than forty-two years of professional experience, Cary has built a distinguished reputation as a trusted advisor to businesses, executives, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals facing complex legal, operational, and governance challenges. His professional journey reflects not only exceptional legal skill, but also a deep understanding of leadership, accountability, negotiation, and the human dynamics that drive business success and conflict resolution alike.
As the Managing Partner of Ichter Davis, LLC, Cary leads a boutique Atlanta-based litigation firm that focuses on commercial litigation matters involving sophisticated financial and business disputes. Under his leadership, the firm has earned recognition for combining aggressive advocacy with strategic precision and practical business judgment. Cary’s philosophy toward litigation is rooted in preparation, discipline, and credibility. He believes the strongest path to resolution often comes from demonstrating the willingness and capability to successfully try a case when necessary. This mindset has enabled him to achieve favorable outcomes for clients through both courtroom victories and strategic settlements.
Cary’s legal career began after graduating magna cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1984, where he distinguished himself academically and competitively. During law school, he earned membership in the prestigious Order of the Coif, served on both the Editorial and Managing Boards of the Georgia Law Review, and won multiple awards for legal writing and advocacy, including Best Brief awards in both his first-year legal writing class and interstate mock trial competition. His early accomplishments reflected the same intellectual rigor, discipline, and communication skills that would later define his career as one of Georgia’s premier litigators.
Before law school, Cary attended the University of West Georgia, where he balanced academic excellence, competitive debate, student leadership, and personal responsibility. As a nationally ranked collegiate debater, Cary and his debate partner achieved a top-seven national ranking and earned a bid to the National Debate Tournament. During this same period, he worked demanding overnight shifts unloading trucks at Kroger in order to help finance his education. His determination and work ethic became evident early in life, particularly when he successfully ran for President of the Student Government Association after publicly promising to leave his night job so he could fully dedicate himself to serving the student body.
Following law school, Cary joined Powell Goldstein Frazer & Murphy, widely regarded at the time as one of Atlanta’s elite litigation firms. Unlike many young attorneys who spent years confined to research and support roles, Cary quickly gained meaningful courtroom experience by working alongside highly respected trial lawyers and eventually serving as lead counsel in significant matters. His early exposure to complex litigation and high-stakes trials gave him a practical understanding of risk management, client advocacy, and courtroom strategy that would become foundational to his long-term success.
In 1992, Cary took a bold entrepreneurial step by co-founding Meadows, Ichter & Trigg, which later became Meadows, Ichter & Bowers after former Georgia Attorney General Mike Bowers joined the firm as a name partner. What began as a small startup operation with minimal resources evolved into one of Atlanta’s most formidable litigation firms, eventually growing to more than thirty lawyers and fifty employees. Cary’s role in building and scaling the firm demonstrated his ability not only to practice law at the highest level, but also to lead organizations, develop teams, cultivate client relationships, and strategically grow a business during highly competitive market conditions.
Throughout his career, Cary has handled an extraordinary range of business and commercial disputes, including employment litigation, insurance matters, collections, partnership conflicts, franchise disputes, corporate governance issues, non-compete agreements, intellectual property disputes involving trademarks and copyrights, and complex business torts. While he has intentionally avoided highly specialized patent and federal securities work, his broad litigation background gives him an exceptionally versatile perspective on business risk and operational challenges. Cary is particularly recognized for his ability to identify potential “potholes” before they become major liabilities, helping organizations proactively avoid costly litigation and reputational damage.
In addition to his legal accomplishments, Cary has become a recognized thought leader within the legal profession and the broader business community. He has authored numerous articles and publications addressing topics such as alternative dispute resolution, special masters, corporate governance, judicial reform, and litigation management. His work has appeared in respected legal journals, newspapers, and professional publications, and he has served as a presenter and speaker at conferences and educational programs for attorneys and business leaders alike. His authorship of Georgia’s Uniform Superior Court Rule 43 concerning Special Masters further solidified his influence on legal procedure and judicial efficiency.
Cary’s leadership extends well beyond his law practice. He previously served as President of the Academy of Court Appointed Masters, now known as the Academy of Court Appointed Neutrals, becoming the first president in the organization’s history to serve two terms. During his leadership tenure, the organization experienced substantial membership growth and increased national visibility. His ability to lead professional organizations reflects his collaborative style, strategic mindset, and commitment to advancing excellence within the legal profession.
Over the course of his career, Cary has represented clients in matters that attracted national media attention and public scrutiny, requiring both legal sophistication and exceptional communication skills. From complex business disputes to sensitive estate and discrimination matters involving public figures and professional athletes, Cary has consistently demonstrated composure under pressure and the ability to manage highly visible legal situations with professionalism and strategic discipline. His courtroom presence, negotiation capabilities, and analytical thinking have earned him the respect of colleagues, judges, and clients across multiple industries.
Beyond litigation and leadership, Cary possesses significant business insight that makes him exceptionally well suited for corporate board service. His experience advising organizations in hospitality, franchising, consulting, accounting, customer service, placement services, and medical-related industries allows him to understand operational realities alongside legal considerations. He brings a practical, business-minded approach to governance, executive accountability, dispute prevention, and organizational strategy. Boards benefit from his ability to assess risk, challenge assumptions thoughtfully, communicate clearly during moments of uncertainty, and guide leadership teams toward informed, strategic decisions.
Cary also believes strongly in service and philanthropy. His long-standing involvement with CARE demonstrates his commitment to making a meaningful difference beyond the courtroom. As a member of the Atlanta Committee for CARE, he helped organize fundraising initiatives supporting clean water projects in Africa, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars through community engagement efforts. His volunteer leadership reflects the same sense of discipline, initiative, and responsibility that has guided his professional life.
Outside of work, Cary maintains a deep passion for personal growth, fitness, history, and martial arts. A Black Belt in Karate, he embraces discipline and perseverance both personally and professionally. These interests reinforce the qualities that define his leadership style: focus, preparation, resilience, and continuous learning. Whether advising clients, leading organizations, mentoring colleagues, or serving on boards, Cary approaches every responsibility with authenticity, intensity, and integrity.
Today, Cary Ichter continues to bring unmatched experience, sharp judgment, and practical wisdom to every organization he serves.
