C Rapier Copeland is an enterprise technology executive with more than 27 years of experience helping organizations navigate transformation at the intersection of business strategy, technology, risk management, and organizational leadership. Across financial services, capital markets, digital media, and marketing sectors, he has led through periods of modernization, integration, operational complexity, and organizational change where technology decisions carry significant business consequences. His perspective is shaped not only by developing technology strategy, but by the experience of translating strategy into sustainable operating capability—aligning people, platforms, investment, risk, and execution while maintaining the stability and resilience businesses and their customers rely upon.
Today, Rapier serves as Head of Infrastructure Engineering & Technology Operations for Truist Securities, the Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) division of Truist, a business generating more than $1 billion in annual revenue. His leadership accountability spans the technology foundations supporting mission-critical trading, enterprise data, and regulatory capabilities within a highly regulated and technology-dependent business. Working across technology and business leadership, he advances modernization in support of business growth while strengthening operational resilience and managing technology risk. His role requires navigating the inherent tradeoffs among transformation, investment, stability, and risk while translating strategic priorities into sustainable organizational capability.
Rapier’s leadership has consistently focused on improving business performance and platform resiliency while advancing technology transformation. At Truist, that approach has contributed to reductions of approximately 40 percent in significant production incidents and improvements of as much as 90 percent in incident recovery times, while simultaneously advancing substantial cloud modernization across CIB. He has led modernization efforts that moved more than half of the application portfolio into cloud environments while maintaining production stability, demonstrating that transformation and operational resilience need not be competing objectives. Experience operating within regulatory and compliance frameworks such as FINRA, SEC, SOX, and PCI, as well as the heightened controls surrounding material nonpublic information (MNPI), has further shaped his perspective on balancing innovation, execution, governance, and risk.
Merger and integration environments have been a recurring feature throughout Rapier’s career, giving him experience navigating the technology, organizational, and operational complexity that accompanies bringing businesses together. His most expansive integration leadership came during the merger of SunTrust and BB&T to form Truist, where he helped shape the technology organization and operating model required to bring together engineering and operations capabilities while maintaining continuity for a highly sensitive capital markets business. His leadership included aligning teams, capabilities, processes, and technology around a common future state while influencing broader integration decisions across CIB. Under his leadership, approximately 70 CIB applications were successfully migrated without any major production incident as critical platforms and infrastructure were consolidated across the combined enterprise. These experiences reinforced a leadership philosophy centered on establishing a clear destination, remaining adaptable in how an organization reaches it, and building the trust and alignment required to make transformation sustainable.
Earlier in his career, Rapier developed a complementary perspective on technology as a driver of product innovation and commercial value while leading technology for McClatchy-Tribune Information Services (MCT), a global news and information provider serving more than 2,000 media clients. Working at the intersection of technology, product, and business strategy, he helped develop and launch SmartContent, a digital content platform that grew to represent approximately 25 percent of company revenue within 18 months, while technology modernization reduced content delivery times by approximately 60 percent. His leadership later extended to integrating MCT into the broader Tribune enterprise environment, requiring the consolidation of technology and operating capabilities while preserving the services on which customers depended. These experiences broadened his perspective on technology leadership—from enabling operational performance to helping shape products, create business value, and navigate the organizational change that accompanies industry and corporate transformation.
Rapier’s earliest career experiences helped develop a broad perspective on the role of technology in business through leadership positions spanning entrepreneurial, growth-oriented, and large-enterprise environments. At Synapse Group Inc. and Auctions.com, he gained firsthand experience supporting businesses through periods of growth, acquisition, and integration, including the incorporation of Synapse into Time Inc. and the acquisition of Auctions.com by Classified Ventures. These experiences exposed him early to the relationship between technology capability, business evolution, and organizational scale—a perspective that continues to inform how he evaluates transformation, investment, and sustainable growth. His professional development has been complemented by continued education and industry certifications across technology architecture, cloud computing, service management, and related disciplines.
Rapier’s commitment to leadership extends beyond the corporate environment through service focused on strengthening communities and expanding opportunity. His volunteer work with organizations including Junior Achievement, Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE), and United Way has supported young people, older adults, and families across a range of economic circumstances. These experiences reflect a longstanding commitment to serving others, broadening opportunity, and contributing time and leadership beyond his professional responsibilities.
Rapier’s leadership perspective has also been shaped by his experience working across geographic and cultural boundaries. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with globally distributed teams and partners, deepening his appreciation for the differing perspectives, communication styles, and operating environments that influence how organizations work. Most recently, he has played a leading role in Truist’s expansion of technology capabilities through the development of Global Capability Centers (GCCs), helping guide the transition of operational responsibilities to globally distributed teams while strengthening knowledge transfer, organizational readiness, and sustainable production support capabilities. Collectively, these experiences have reinforced the importance of combining global scale with local understanding and building operating models that enable diverse teams to work in unison toward common business objectives.
Rapier brings to board service the perspective of an experienced operator who understands technology not as an isolated function, but as an increasingly consequential component of business strategy, organizational capability, risk, and long-term value creation. His experience leading through modernization, merger integration, operational transformation, and organizational change enables him to evaluate both the opportunities created by technology investment and the execution, resilience, and governance risks that accompany it. His practical understanding of what it takes to translate strategy into sustainable capability enables him to ask questions that connect strategic ambition with operating reality while helping organizations navigate complexity, manage risk, and position themselves for responsible growth.
