“There Are No Problems, Just Solutions.”
Benjamin Sions is a senior executive, entrepreneur, and trusted advisor whose career has been defined by a distinctive ability to turn operational risk, safety, and organizational complexity into measurable business value. Over more than two decades, he has progressed from hands-on environmental and safety leadership in mining and heavy industry to enterprise-level responsibility across manufacturing, distribution, transportation, fleet operations, technology, and corporate risk. His leadership philosophy is grounded in a simple principle: there are no problems, only solutions waiting to be developed. That mindset has shaped a career in which he has repeatedly been called upon to solve difficult operational challenges, improve performance, protect people, and strengthen profitability.
Benjamin’s professional foundation was built in demanding industrial environments where operational discipline, regulatory knowledge, and sound judgment were essential. At Greer Industries, he held responsibility for OSHA, MSHA, EPA, and state regulatory compliance across limestone mines, asphalt plants, river operations, and steel mills. His work went well beyond traditional compliance oversight. Among his early accomplishments was the redesign of an acid mine drainage treatment process that reduced annual costs by approximately 90 percent, from $1 million to $94,000, demonstrating an early ability to connect environmental stewardship and risk management with financial performance.
That foundation expanded as Benjamin moved into increasingly broader leadership roles with Lafarge North America and Pall Corporation. At Lafarge, he managed the impact of environmental, health, and safety performance on the P&L while helping East Coast operations achieve more than 300,000 work hours without a medical or lost-time accident. At Pall Corporation, he led health, safety, and environmental programs across multiple 24/7 manufacturing operations and reduced the injury rate by 82 percent in two years, resulting in the lowest total recordable rate in the history of Pall’s Maryland operations. He also secured executive support for manufacturing modernization, applied Lean and SQDIP principles to improve productivity threefold, and helped the organization attain ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 22301 certifications.
Benjamin’s career accelerated further when he entered national leadership with Nestlé Waters North America, later BlueTriton Brands. As National Field SH&E Manager, he helped transform safety performance across more than 64 distribution centers and hundreds of commercial drivers, raising DOT, OSHA, EPA, and NFPA compliance to 95 percent. He introduced Lean principles, visual management systems, contractor management standards, and adult-learning approaches that equipped frontline leaders to take greater ownership of operational performance. His ability to translate corporate expectations into practical field execution became a defining strength and positioned him for larger enterprise responsibilities.
In his subsequent national senior leadership role, Benjamin became an architect of enterprise safety operations across manufacturing, warehousing, and a DOT fleet exceeding 7,300 vehicles. He helped build and certify an enterprise management system to ISO 45001 standards while simultaneously advancing technology-enabled approaches to operational risk. Most notably, he conceived, funded, and deployed an AI- and computer-vision-based safety platform using technologies such as 360-degree video, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and forward collision systems. The initiative contributed to a 40 percent reduction in vehicle liability and a 33 percent reduction in OSHA recordables while generating approximately $50 million in annual savings. He also demonstrated exceptional execution speed, deploying technology across 550 vehicles in 10 locations within 40 days before scaling the program across another 1,500 vehicles and 70 locations.
Benjamin’s leadership scope ultimately expanded into process excellence, corporate risk, and safety during the combination of BlueTriton Brands and Primo Brands. In that environment, he helped guide safety and risk strategy through a multi-billion-dollar merger involving approximately 15,000 associates, 300 warehouses, 34 factories, 5,000 commercial drivers, and more than $300 million in managed liability. He unified safety operations under a common governance framework, owned operating and capital budgets, standardized policies, audits, inspections, and reporting processes, and helped create infrastructure that could continue to scale after the integration was complete. This phase of his career reinforced his ability to operate comfortably at the intersection of operational execution, enterprise risk, financial stewardship, and executive governance.
Today, Benjamin brings that experience into entrepreneurial and advisory work as CEO and Founder of Safe Ops and as an independent executive advisor focused on safety, risk, fleet technology, and operational excellence. His advisory perspective is especially valuable because he has been both the executive buyer and enterprise operator responsible for evaluating, deploying, and measuring technology in the field. He advises organizations on telematics, ADAS, ergonomics, AI-enabled fleet systems, ISO 45001 readiness, safety governance, and the commercial potential of turning internal operational capabilities into customer-facing services. His professional interests naturally align with technology and transportation, where his combination of business ownership, SaaS development, fleet experience, risk expertise, and operational leadership offers a differentiated perspective.
Across his career, Benjamin has developed a reputation for seeing safety and risk not merely as compliance functions but as strategic levers for protecting EBITDA, improving productivity, strengthening organizational resilience, and enabling growth. His career impact includes more than $500 million in reported savings through risk mitigation, operational improvements, technology innovation, and integration work. He is particularly skilled at translating complex actuarial, regulatory, and operational data into a business case executives can act upon, whether the issue involves capital deployment, fleet loss reduction, technology adoption, merger integration, or enterprise governance. His expertise spans enterprise risk management, P&L management, project and program leadership, business ownership, AI and machine learning applications, B2B SaaS, Lean operating systems, DOT fleet safety, executive reporting, and leadership development.
His effectiveness as a leader is supported not only by operating results but also by independent feedback. A 2025 Kincentric 360-degree assessment involving 20 respondents rated Benjamin 3.87 out of 5 overall from raters excluding himself, placing him in the “Very Effective” range. His highest-rated behaviors included confidently and appropriately defending his beliefs, modeling organizational values, leading collaboration across organizational and geographic boundaries, acting as an agent of change, and creating environments in which innovative ideas are encouraged and tested. Respondents described him as entrepreneurial, authentic, courageous, collaborative, analytical, and highly diligent in developing recommendations and business cases.
Benjamin also brings strong academic and professional credentials to his work. He earned a Master of Science in Safety Management and a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management and Rural Development from West Virginia University, along with a Certificate in Managing Projects from George Washington University. His credentials include Certified Safety Professional, Safety Management Specialist, MSHA Approved Instructor, OSHA Outreach Instructor, and multiple ISO qualifications. He is also a published author whose work, Total Quality Management for Mitigating Risk of Injuries to Upper Extremities Within Steel Mill Operations, reflects his longstanding interest in connecting management systems, workplace risk, and continuous improvement.
Beyond formal titles, Benjamin’s leadership identity is rooted in ownership, problem-solving, and helping others grow. He has participated in panel discussions and public presentations, advised executives and business owners informally throughout his career, and built relationships across frontline operations, corporate leadership, vendors, regulators, and technology partners. Colleagues have recognized his ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, explain risk and reward clearly, develop talent, think creatively, and bring a high degree of diligence to complex decisions. His personal priorities remain equally grounded: family time is important to him, and his approach to leadership reflects a belief that strong businesses should protect both their people and the value those people help create.
As Benjamin considers board and advisory opportunities, he brings the perspective of an executive who has helped organizations scale, manage transformation, introduce new technologies, navigate large integrations, and connect operational performance with financial outcomes. He is particularly well suited to technology, transportation, industrial, fleet, SaaS, manufacturing, distribution, and operationally complex businesses seeking a director or advisor who understands how strategy becomes execution. His value in the boardroom lies not simply in technical safety expertise, but in the broader perspective he has developed as an operator, business owner, technology advocate, P&L-minded executive, and leader who understands that sustainable growth depends on disciplined execution, informed risk-taking, and people who are empowered to solve problems.
