Wilma Suen is a globally respected research, market analytics, and strategic forecasting executive whose career has been defined by her ability to guide organizations through uncertainty, disruption, and transformation. With more than two decades of international leadership experience spanning aviation, financial services, sustainability, and strategic consulting, she has built a reputation as a trusted advisor capable of translating complex market intelligence into actionable business strategy. Throughout her career, Wilma has consistently demonstrated an exceptional ability to combine analytical precision with forward-looking strategic insight, helping organizations strengthen resilience, improve competitiveness, and identify opportunities for long-term growth.

At the center of Wilma’s professional journey is a deep commitment to helping organizations make informed decisions during periods of volatility and rapid industry change. Her expertise in quantitative and qualitative analysis, coupled with her understanding of global markets and stakeholder dynamics, has enabled her to lead high-impact initiatives in global markets. Whether advising executive leadership teams during economic crises, validating multi-billion-dollar investment opportunities, or supporting sustainable innovation initiatives, Wilma has established herself as a leader who thrives in complex and evolving environments.

Wilma most recently served as Vice President of Portfolio Strategy & Forecasting at GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), one of the world’s leading aircraft leasing and aviation finance organizations prior to its acquisition by AerCap. During her tenure, her role evolved from strategic marketing leadership into a highly influential forecasting and portfolio strategy position focused on identifying short- and long-term impacts on aviation markets, customer demand, and aircraft requirements. She became instrumental in shaping portfolio decisions by developing sophisticated forecasting models, conducting detailed market analysis, and advising senior leadership on risk management and asset strategy.

One of the defining moments of Wilma’s career came during the COVID-19 crisis, when the global aviation industry faced an unprecedented collapse in passenger demand and operational continuity. As airlines grounded fleets and governments imposed travel restrictions around the world, GECAS required rapid, data-driven forecasting to navigate uncertainty and protect portfolio performance. Wilma led scenario planning and recovery forecasting efforts that analyzed passenger behavior trends, revised GDP projections across more than 120 countries, and modeled multiple recovery pathways for the aviation sector. Her work successfully identified significant multi-year aircraft oversupply risks and highlighted specific assets vulnerable to accelerated retirement. Her leadership during this period earned her a prestigious GECAS President’s Award and reinforced her reputation as a strategic thinker capable of leading through crisis.

In addition to her forecasting and risk management expertise, Wilma has played a critical role in validating and developing innovative business opportunities within the aviation sector. At GECAS, she guided the market validation process for a passenger-to-cargo aircraft conversion initiative designed to capitalize on the rapid growth of e-commerce and air cargo demand. By leading cargo forecasting studies, retirement analysis, and market demand assessments, she helped secure approval for the program, which ultimately led to a joint venture with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in 2019. Her ability to identify emerging market trends and translate them into commercially viable opportunities reflects both her strategic vision and her practical business acumen.

Prior to joining GECAS, Wilma spent five years with American Express in London, where she ultimately became Director of the Airline Center of Excellence for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. In this role, she oversaw airline-related strategic initiatives and risk management activities across merchant services, loyalty programs, corporate cards, and travel businesses. Her responsibilities included managing counterparty risk exposure for more than 230 airlines globally, representing approximately $3.5 billion in exposure. During the aftermath of the global financial crisis, Wilma became a critical voice in assessing the stability of airline partners and working closely with client management and risk officers to develope mitigation strategies that balanced commercial priorities with financial protection.

One of her most significant achievements at American Express involved identifying and mitigating risks associated with Kingfisher Airlines, a key airline partner facing mounting financial instability. Wilma led comprehensive due diligence efforts that included analyzing ownership structures, evaluating collateral arrangements, and monitoring liquidity trends. Through persistent analysis and communication with both airline executives and internal stakeholders, she successfully convinced regional teams of the severity of the risk exposure and enabled proactive measures that protected American Express from significant financial loss. Her broader work during this period contributed to zero losses across more than 60 airline liquidations and restructurings, earning her the American Express Ambassador’s Award.

Earlier in her career, Wilma developed extensive international consulting and strategy experience through roles with organizations such as Star Alliance, the GLOBE Foundation of Canada, and various independent consulting engagements across the United States, Canada, and Europe. At Star Alliance in Frankfurt, she supported strategic and governance initiatives designed to strengthen collaboration among global airline partners. These experiences deepened her understanding of international business operations, strategic alliances, and cross-border stakeholder management while reinforcing her ability to navigate multicultural business environments with confidence and diplomacy.

Wilma’s professional accomplishments are complemented by a strong academic foundation and lifelong commitment to research and learning. She earned a PhD in International Business from The Fletcher School at Tufts University, where her dissertation focused on the structure and governance of strategic alliances.   This was subsequently published as a management text, “Non-Cooperation:  the Dark Side of Strategic Alliances” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005), with a translation published in China as well.   She also holds a Master of Science in International Relations from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Political Science and International Relations from the University of British Columbia. Her academic work laid the groundwork for her thought leadership in strategic partnerships, governance, and competitive collaboration.

In recent years, Wilma has increasingly dedicated her expertise to sustainability, climate risk, and clean technology initiatives. She currently serves as a Board Member for the Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate, an industry-led coalition focused on accelerating the transition to zero-emission shipping through regional and international collaboration. She also contributes as an Expert Reviewer for Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), evaluating innovative environmental technology companies seeking funding support. In addition, she serves as an Executive in Residence with Foresight Canada, mentoring and advising emerging cleantech startups. These roles reflect her growing commitment to helping organizations navigate the intersection of sustainability, innovation, and economic transformation.

Wilma’s leadership style is grounded in intellectual curiosity, integrity, and collaboration. Colleagues and industry peers recognize her as someone who approaches challenges with discipline, thoughtful analysis, and calm determination. Her ability to synthesize large volumes of complex information while maintaining a strategic perspective has enabled her to build credibility across executive teams, investors, regulators, and cross-functional stakeholders. She understands that successful leadership requires not only technical expertise, but also the ability to foster trust, encourage dialogue, and align diverse perspectives around a common vision.

Outside of her professional life, Wilma values creativity, discipline, and lifelong learning. She competes dog sports (scent detection and tracking), and plays the piano and violin, interests that reflect her appreciation for focus, precision, and personal growth. Having lived and worked internationally throughout her career, she brings a global mindset shaped by experiences across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Fluent in English and Cantonese, with professional working proficiency in French, she is well equipped to engage across cultures and industries with authenticity and confidence.
