“Do No Harm. It Never Hurts to Ask.”

With a distinguished career spanning over five decades, Vern Lochausen has become a respected figure in aerospace, defense, and public service, known not only for his technical acumen but for his enduring commitment to leadership, mentorship, and community. Guided by two core principles—“Do no harm” and “It never hurts to ask”—Vern exemplifies the kind of thoughtful, strategic leadership that balances operational excellence with human connection. His journey from a young Naval officer to a seasoned executive and board member reflects a deep-rooted passion for aviation, service, and making a measurable difference in the organizations and communities he touches.

Vern began his professional path as a scholarship recipient at the University of Mississippi, where he graduated with a degree in Mathematics and quickly ascended through the ranks of the U.S. Navy. From his early days as a Naval Flight Officer to his later command of the Navy’s TACAMO Wing, Vern demonstrated an uncanny ability to see the big picture while managing complex, high-stakes operations. He was entrusted with operational control of over 1,500 personnel and 20 aircraft, overseeing strategic communications and leading missions critical to national defense. His success in this role earned him accolades across the military and the honor of being named an Honorary Master Chief Petty Officer.

Upon retiring from active duty, Vern transitioned seamlessly into the aerospace industry, bringing with him a breadth of knowledge in mission systems and strategic planning. At Boeing, he held multiple executive roles, including Executive Director of Sustainment for the V-22 Osprey program and Program Manager for E-6 Mercury modernization. His leadership revitalized underperforming programs, improved customer satisfaction, and fostered groundbreaking innovations, such as the development of airborne internet access and modernized avionics for the E-6 fleet. Vern’s hands-on management style, combined with a knack for translating complex ideas into actionable roadmaps, made him a go-to executive for large-scale program turnarounds.

Throughout his aerospace tenure, Vern earned a reputation as a bridge-builder—someone who could align military, government, and industry stakeholders toward shared goals. His consulting work with Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and industry through his own Pegasus Consulting LLC has centered on strategic roadmap development, stakeholder alignment, and mentorship. Whether facilitating collaboration between contractors and government teams or guiding new program managers through steep learning curves, Vern’s impact has been felt across multiple strategic communications platforms. His continued support of emerging technologies and talent has positioned him as both a thought leader and a trusted advisor in the defense and aerospace sectors.

Vern is an experienced museum and historical preservation leader with a proven record of coordinating, curating, and delivering high-impact exhibits. As President of the TACAMO Community Veterans Association, he led the creation of submarine communications galleries at both the Navy Museum in Washington, D.C., and the Patuxent River Naval Aviation Museum, overseeing artifact collection, cataloging, and exhibit design. He also served on the Patuxent River museum’s Board of Directors, securing lasting industry support for its new building. Beyond naval history, Vern preserved his family’s 1946 Kenworth truck, collaborating with Kenworth to restore it and establish a permanent museum display, complete with artifacts, historical documentation, and multimedia interpretation. His combination of hands-on project management, donor engagement, and deep commitment to historical preservation makes him a strong asset for boards and organizations dedicated to cultural heritage.

Beyond his professional career, Vern’s passion for public service has remained a constant. His election to the City Council of Choctaw, Oklahoma, marked the beginning of his civic leadership. There, he led successful campaigns to fund road improvements and coalesced community factions to build a public library, illustrating his ability to unify and lead for the greater good. His tenure on the council laid the groundwork for a lifelong dedication to community enrichment and historical preservation.

This commitment to service flourished further in his roles with the TACAMO Community Veterans Association and the Brownsburg Community Association. As President and Historian of the TCVA, Vern led efforts to memorialize fallen servicemembers, establish scholarships, and create museum exhibits celebrating military aviation history. Under his leadership, TCVA evolved from a small reunion-focused group into a robust, multifaceted 501(c)(3) nonprofit. In Brownsburg, Virginia, he applied the same thoughtful leadership to support historic preservation, organize community events, and lead initiatives to improve safety and civic engagement.

Vern’s international exposure, particularly his collaborations with the Royal Netherlands Air Force staff, has given him a global perspective, essential for navigating the cross-cultural complexities of defense and aerospace operations. While he speaks only English, his ability to engage effectively across international lines has contributed to several successful multinational partnerships and knowledge exchanges. His diplomatic approach and operational rigor have earned him trust across borders, enhancing the reach and credibility of the programs he supports.

Over the years, Vern has shared his knowledge through published articles in niche newsletters and numerous speaking engagements during his military career. His presentations—rooted in firsthand experience and strategic foresight—have informed both civilian and military audiences. His ability to articulate complex defense challenges with clarity and depth continues to resonate, whether he’s addressing a room of servicemembers or advising a board of directors.

Today, Vern remains active as an independent consultant, sought after for his strategic insight and deep institutional knowledge. He continues to advise NAVAIR and other aerospace entities, while also serving on nonprofit boards focused on education, history, and community building. His professional training includes certifications from Boeing, the Naval War College, and the Defense Acquisition University—reflecting a lifelong commitment to learning and leadership development.

Through every role—whether in the cockpit, boardroom, or town hall—Vern Lochausen brings the same unwavering integrity, intellectual rigor, and humility. His life’s work reflects not only the evolution of modern aviation but also the enduring power of servant leadership. As he looks toward new board and advisory roles, he remains focused on one goal: using his wealth of experience to empower others and guide the next generation of leaders.
