At CION Investments, Sergio leads financial operations with a focus on enhancing reporting capabilities and implementing process improvements to optimize efficiency. Prior to that, he served as Controller at Neuberger Berman, where he oversaw all aspects of financial accounting and played a vital role in guiding the company’s strategic direction through detailed financial planning and analysis.
Sergio’s tenure at Medley Management Inc. showcased his ability to wear multiple hats, from Vice President to Accounting Manager to Senior Accountant. He led quarterly income and budget projections, managed relationships with third-party administrators, and coordinated closely with auditors to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. His responsibilities also included the preparation of earnings presentations for executive leadership and strategic input into the company’s financial infrastructure.
Earlier in his career, Sergio gained valuable audit experience at Ernst & Young, where he worked with some of the largest financial institutions in the United States, including Cantor Fitzgerald. His role as Senior Associate in the Banking Capital Markets portfolio gave him exposure to complex financial instruments such as derivatives, mortgage obligations, and asset-backed securities. At EY, he was known for his deep understanding of US GAAP, ASC820 compliance, and effective audit methodologies, all of which have continued to shape his leadership approach.
Sergio holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics from SUNY Old Westbury.
