In her current roles as Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine and Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Stony Brook University Hospital, Sahar operates at the forefront of modern critical care. She leads complex clinical operations, oversees multidisciplinary teams, and ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in one of the most demanding areas of medicine. Sahar’s journey began in Brooklyn, New York, where she developed a strong foundation in both academics and athletics. A graduate of Stuyvesant High School and a varsity basketball player, she carried her discipline and team-oriented mindset into her academic pursuits. She went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa from Vassar College before earning her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, setting the stage for a career defined by dedication, resilience, and achievement.
Her postgraduate training spanned some of the nation’s most respected institutions, including a surgical internship, an internal medicine residency, and a pulmonary and critical care fellowship. Since joining Stony Brook University in 2013, she has steadily advanced into senior leadership roles, becoming a key driver of both clinical and academic innovation.

She has been a pioneer in the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), developing and implementing curricula that have transformed how physicians are trained. As Chair of the Ultrasound Curriculum Task Force, she has led institution-wide efforts to embed ultrasound education into medical training, ensuring that learners are equipped with essential, cutting-edge diagnostic tools.
