“Innovating Carbon Management, Leading with Integrity.”

Ronald “Tracy” Evans is a proven leader, visionary, and pioneer in the carbon management and oil & gas sectors. With a career that spans over four decades and includes leadership of some of the most recognized initiatives in CO₂ capture and sequestration, Tracy’s name is synonymous with energy innovation, operational excellence, and value creation. Throughout his 41-year journey in the industry, he has driven strategic projects, steered companies through transformative growth, and earned recognition for his technical acumen and steady leadership in both corporate boardrooms and operational fields.

Tracy began his journey in the energy industry with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, followed by an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas. This dual foundation of engineering precision and business foresight would prove to be the bedrock for a career marked by calculated risk-taking and long-term value generation. His technical foundation empowered him to understand the complexities of oil and gas production, while his business education enabled him to lead organizations with a strategic mindset and entrepreneurial vision.

In the early years of his career, Tracy held various technical, operations, and management roles between 1984 and 1999. These years were formative, allowing him to develop a granular understanding of oil and gas field operations, production systems, and the unique challenges of energy resource development. As his responsibilities expanded, so too did his scope of influence, eventually leading him into C-suite leadership where he could make broader strategic impacts.

Tracy’s first major executive role came as President and Chief Operating Officer of Denbury Resources Inc., a publicly traded company known for its leadership in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) using carbon dioxide. During his tenure, Denbury expanded or initiated sixteen CO₂ EOR projects and constructed over 700 miles of large-scale CO₂ pipelines—an infrastructure legacy that still underpins portions of the U.S. carbon management landscape. Tracy’s ability to scale operational infrastructure while maintaining strategic clarity demonstrated his skill at balancing technical excellence with big-picture vision.

From 1999 through 2017, Tracy further solidified his leadership credentials through a series of chief executive roles, including at GeoFossil Fuels and Tabula Rasa Partners. His stewardship of these firms highlighted his ability to build executive teams, develop forward-leaning energy strategies, and lead investor engagement. At Tabula Rasa and GeoFossil, he blended entrepreneurial energy with corporate discipline, traits that would define the next and perhaps most impactful chapter of his career.

In 2017, Tracy founded CapturePoint LLC, a cutting-edge carbon management company focusing on CO₂ capture, transportation, and sequestration. Under his leadership as CEO, CapturePoint became a leading force in the rapidly evolving carbon capture space. The company achieved a milestone by capturing and sequestering approximately 1 million metric tons of CO₂ per year and executed two high-profile 45Q tax credit monetization transactions—one through a pioneering tax equity partnership, believed to be the first of its kind in the U.S., and another through a direct transfer. These groundbreaking achievements underscore Tracy’s ability to innovate at the intersection of policy, technology, and finance.

Beyond operational success, Tracy has served on numerous Boards of Directors across the energy sector. His governance experience includes board roles at Genesis Energy, Encore Energy Partners, Inventys/Savante Inc., Discovery Natural Resources, and of course, CapturePoint LLC itself. Notably, at Discovery Natural Resources, he served on the Reserve and Compensation Committees, offering key input into the company’s long-term value and talent strategies. This robust boardroom experience, combined with his executive leadership, makes him an ideal candidate for advisory or fiduciary roles in growth-stage companies and established enterprises alike.

Tracy’s reputation in the industry extends beyond his executive titles. He is widely sought after as a speaker at conferences and symposiums, particularly on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). His ability to articulate complex subjects in plain terms makes him a compelling voice in an industry that is both highly technical and under increasing public scrutiny. His thought leadership in carbon management has not only influenced corporate strategies but has also shaped policy conversations on environmental stewardship and sustainable growth.

Grounded and pragmatic, Tracy’s demeanor has been described as “even keel”—a leader who neither overreacts nor underplays situations, but instead brings a calm, direct, and honest approach to problem-solving. His steady leadership style is mirrored by his personal values: a dedication to innovation, a passion for strategic development, and a deep respect for collaboration. He remains closely involved with the Society of Petroleum Engineers and is always eager to mentor the next generation of engineers and executives.

Outside of the boardroom and business meetings, Tracy enjoys golfing, boating, and cheering on the University of Oklahoma athletic teams. He lives in Texas with his wife, Patricia, with whom he has shared 40 years of marriage. Together, they have raised two daughters and built a life centered on integrity, family, and purposeful impact. Despite his many accolades, Tracy remains approachable, humble, and focused on the future—qualities that make him both a respected peer and a valued leader.

As the energy industry faces rapid transformation, Tracy Evans stands as a beacon of experience, adaptability, and foresight. Whether it’s guiding a carbon startup, serving on an industry board, or speaking on the future of energy, he brings a rare blend of technical mastery, operational rigor, and visionary leadership. His mission is clear: to help the energy sector meet tomorrow’s challenges with solutions that are smart, scalable, and sustainable.
