“Be Productive.”

Rick A. Wright is an accomplished global energy executive whose four-decade career has been defined by a relentless commitment to operational excellence, disciplined capital stewardship, and the development of high-performing interdisciplinary teams. Known for his steady leadership and strategic clarity, he has shaped and delivered major oil and gas projects across the United States and internationally, consistently demonstrating a rare blend of technical depth, business acumen, and people-centered management. Guided by his personal motto—Be productive—Rick’s professional trajectory reflects a leader who approaches every challenge with purpose, accountability, and a long-term view of value creation.

Rick began his career as a petroleum engineer in the Permian Basin with Chevron, quickly earning recognition for his drive, adaptability, and ability to solve complex operational problems. His early assignments accelerated his development as he took on increasingly technical and supervisory responsibilities, culminating in a deep understanding of drilling, completions, reservoir engineering, and asset optimization. These formative years laid the groundwork for a career that would regularly place him at the center of large-scale, technically demanding projects and multidisciplinary teams.

As he progressed into leadership roles, Rick’s blend of engineering expertise and strategic thinking became central to his impact. He supervised engineering groups across multiple U.S. business units, managed extensive workover and drilling programs, and played a pivotal role in revitalizing mature assets through innovative well interventions and integrated planning approaches. His reputation for restoring production, optimizing field operations, and identifying overlooked value opportunities positioned him as a trusted leader capable of navigating both operational complexity and organizational change.

Rick’s early international experience came through Chevron’s assignments in West Africa, where he led major redevelopment and production restoration efforts in Nigeria and later served as Asset Manager in Angola. In these roles, he directed reservoir management strategies, collaborated with government entities, guided high-activity drilling programs, and oversaw multifield operations producing more than 165,000 BOEPD. His ability to unify cross-functional teams—while bridging cultural, regulatory, and logistical realities—resulted in operational turnarounds that were both technically sound and strategically enduring.

His global leadership strengths expanded further as he transitioned into managing major deepwater capital projects in the Gulf of Mexico. Rick served as Chevron’s single point of contact with various operators, guiding multi-billion-dollar joint venture developments through the complexities of deepwater execution. Under his leadership, projects such as Perdido and Caesar Tonga were brought online safely and efficiently, achieving production targets that exceeded expectations and demonstrating his commitment to rigorous planning, stakeholder alignment, and disciplined execution.

Rick’s executive capabilities deepened further during his tenure as Technical Director for Addax Petroleum Nigeria Ltd., a subsidiary of Sinopec. There, he advanced major projects to final investment readiness, championed organizational redesign to meet economic realities, and instituted After-Action Reviews that elevated operational learning and performance. His leadership reinforced a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, enabling teams to successfully deliver high-impact drilling programs, optimize asset performance, and enhance business planning accuracy.

Today, as Principal of Wright Energy, LLC, Rick continues to bring his technical insight and strategic judgment to both domestic and international engagements. His consulting work includes evaluating development prospects, analyzing operator plans, advising on joint venture governance, and supporting investment decisions across complex upstream environments. His clients value his ability to interpret technical data within a broader commercial context—ensuring that development choices are not only scientifically sound but economically justified.

Beyond his executive work, Rick’s commitment to service is reflected in his board leadership roles. He currently serves on the boards of the Bethel Endowment Trust and the Anson Public Library, where he focuses on stewardship of endowment funds and long-term financial sustainability. He has also served on the board of Addax Petroleum Nigeria Ltd. and contributed to the External Advisory Board for the University of Texas Petroleum Engineering Department, reinforcing his lifelong commitment to advancing the industry and mentoring future leaders.

Rick’s professional foundation is strengthened by a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Tulane University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, and his affiliations include the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the University of Texas Alumni Association, and the World Affairs Council of Houston. Outside of work, he enjoys fitness, golf, bicycling, hunting, and travel—pursuits that reflect the balance he maintains between discipline and adventure.

Throughout his career, Rick has been recognized as a leader who elevates the performance of organizations not only through technical mastery, but through his ability to inspire trust, build consensus, and frame decisions around long-term value. His body of work demonstrates a consistent dedication to optimizing assets, developing people, and driving strategic outcomes across some of the most complex operating environments in the global energy sector.
