“Experience Earned, Leadership Shared.”

For more than four decades, R. Clay Humphries has stood at the intersection of leadership, technical expertise, and unwavering commitment within the Property & Casualty insurance sector. His career, defined by resilience, curiosity, and a deep desire to elevate people and organizations, began in 1981 and has since evolved into one of the most extensive and respected journeys in the claims and restoration industries. Clay entered the field with energy and determination, quickly realizing that the insurance world was not just a place to build a career, but a platform to build relationships, shape teams, and solve complex problems that impact businesses and communities nationwide.

Clay’s early years at Crawford & Company gave him a foundation few professionals experience so early in their careers. Working as a multi-line field adjuster across the New Orleans and Shreveport markets, he developed a sophisticated understanding of commercial property, casualty, inland marine, heavy equipment, and cargo claims. His rapid advancement to General Adjuster by 1983 reflected not just technical aptitude, but his capacity for judgment, analytical thinking, and level-headed decision-making during difficult losses. These formative years introduced him to a wide range of insurance carriers—domestic, international, Lloyd’s markets, E&S, MGAs, MGUs, captives, public entities, reinsurance, transportation, and fronting programs—shaping the comprehensive expertise he would later bring to executive leadership roles.

By 1985, Clay transitioned into entrepreneurship and senior leadership when he joined F.A. Richard & Associates as a minority owner and Vice President. During this period, he became known for his ability to build service locations from the ground up, expand into new regions, and foster client confidence. His relocation to Atlanta signaled the beginning of his influence across the southeastern United States, where he led teams, cultivated partnerships, and helped shape organizational growth strategies. These years further sharpened Clay’s leadership philosophy—one grounded in integrity, mentorship, and long-term relationship building.

In 1997, Clay joined GAB Robins as Senior Vice President and Executive General Adjuster, assuming responsibility for operations across ten southern states. Overseeing more than 45 service locations and hundreds of employees, he became a transformational leader who understood how to blend operational discipline with genuine care for the people behind the work. His leadership helped create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high service standards, reinforcing the company’s reputation in a competitive market.

Clay’s executive journey expanded beyond adjusting firms when he became President of Braun Construction Services in 2007. There, he led business development, sales, and marketing initiatives while guiding the company’s broader administrative direction. His understanding of construction, mitigation, and restoration uniquely complemented his insurance claims background, giving him rare insight into the full life cycle of loss, recovery, and rebuilding. This broadened perspective later proved invaluable when advising clients, managing large commercial property losses, or leading teams within restoration and adjusting firms.

In 2009, he returned to the adjusting sector through VeriClaim—later acquired by Sedgwick—where he spent more than fourteen years as a Senior Vice President and Executive General Adjuster. Clay’s role required not only technical excellence, but an entrepreneurial mindset. As an EGA, he secured his own accounts, collaborated with brokers and risk management professionals across the country, and personally handled complex national claims. His ability to build partnerships, mentor adjusters, and unify teams under a shared mission contributed significantly to the company’s stability and growth during years of major industry change.

Clay later brought his leadership to the Commercial Restoration Company as Senior Vice President before assuming the position of Executive Vice President and Executive General Adjuster at Charles Taylor Adjusting. In this role, he continued to guide the Property & Casualty division across the United States, offering strategic oversight while remaining deeply connected to the technical side of the industry. His presence provided assurance to clients, colleagues, and carriers who valued his experience, judgment, and commitment to exceptional service.

Throughout his career, Clay has cultivated meaningful relationships within key industry associations, including Southern Loss Association, Cumberland RIMS, Canada RIMS, Atlanta RIMS, PLRB, LEA, and several regional claims organizations. His certifications—ranging from Associate in Claims to specialized technical training through Haag, IICRC, and DeWald—reflect a lifetime of professional development and dedication to staying ahead of industry standards. Yet, despite his extensive credentials, Clay remains grounded in the values that first shaped his career: work hard, lead by example, support your team, and serve clients with integrity.

Beyond the industry, Clay’s driving force has always been his family. His passion for mentoring, teaching, and building up others mirrors the pride he carries for his children and grandchildren. As he transitions into the next chapter of his professional life, Clay seeks opportunities to serve on corporate and advisory boards where he can share his decades of insight, contribute to organizational growth, and help shape the future of companies that impact the industries he has dedicated his life to.

With more than 45 years of experience, Clay brings not only knowledge, but perspective; not only leadership, but the heart of a mentor; not only technical expertise, but a lifetime of stories that guide thoughtful decision-making. His career reflects a rare combination of operational mastery, executive-level strategy, and genuine investment in people—a blend that positions him as an exceptional board candidate who is ready to give back to a field that has given him so much.
