    Peter Moles, PE (Retired), a leader in the field of engineering and technology development, has made substantial contributions to the advancement of marine and subsea systems, particularly in the field of robotics.

    With a robust academic foundation in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Peter embarked on a career that would span over four decades, marked by innovation and leadership. At the onset of his career as a Mechanical Engineer at the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center, he was introduced to critical design in manned submersible systems and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), laying the groundwork for his future endeavors in subsea technology.

    His tenure at Oceaneering International Inc. saw him rise through the ranks, from Project Engineer/Manager to Worldwide Chief Engineer, where he managed P&L for the Special Projects Group and spearheaded the development of custom subsea hardware and services. Peter leveraged customer insights to deliver diverse products and services while enhancing team leadership, growth, development, continuous improvement processes, and software. To drive process standardization worldwide, he was also instrumental in the implementation of their PLM system. His innovative mindset led to him being appointed as Chief Advanced Technology Officer for Umbilical Solutions, modernizing engineering departments globally and resolving critical design and manufacturing quality issues. His expertise was further recognized as he took on the role of Global Category Manager, guiding product development with strategic suppliers to optimize internal resources and development schedules.

    As Chief Technologist at Oceaneering, he led global technology adoption and addressed operational issues. Peter’s leadership capabilities were not limited to technological advancements; he also excelled in mentoring roles. As Director of Emerging Technologies, Peter introduced advanced software solutions and automation strategies to combat severe market pricing challenges in Oil & Gas while providing invaluable mentorship in engineering and project management. This blend of technical acumen and people-focused leadership culminated in his most recent role as Program Manager Lead at L3Harris Technologies for integrating autonomous vessel technologies and operational policy for US naval vessels.

    A registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Mechanical Engineering and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Peter’s professional affiliations are testament to his commitment to excellence. His forward-thinking approach has resulted in multiple patents that have propelled autonomous ROV technology forward, including innovations that permit offshore operation from the safety onshore. Throughout his career, Peter has been driven by an unwavering dedication to product and technology strategies, custom product development, team leadership, mentoring, continuous improvement, and program management. His work has spanned various applications from robotics—including ROVs, AUVs, ASVs—to hardware such as subsea production systems and tooling, as well as service offerings for offshore operations management.
